Limbaugh Not Buying Nissan’s New Polar Bear Ad

When I first saw the ad for the Nissan’s new electric car I chuckled at its hokeyness; a polar bear travels from the Arctic to America to hug an owner of the new Nissan Leaf. Apparently buying a new Nissan these days amounts to saving a polar bear, or something.
But conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh isn‘t buying into Nissan’s new ad campaign. On his radio program Monday, Rush said the Nissan ad “misses the mark.”
The whole thing is just a fraud. Now, they’re entitled to do it. They got market research that obviously says this is the way to sell the electric car. Sell it with guilt, sell it to these Nimrods who think like this idiot who took hostages at the Discovery network building. But man, I thought we were past this. …
In the midst of all of this being exposed as a hoax, all of these photos showing stranded polar bears also to be Photoshopped and misrepresented.
Putting politics and the unsettled science behind global warming aside, Rush cautioned listeners about what to do if a polar bear showed up in their driveway:
My friends, don’t ever try to hug a polar bear. You will die. A polar bear will rip your head off. If a polar bear shows up in your driveway, run for the hills — or don’t leave your house. Do not go out there and let it hug you.
It really is good advice. Maybe Nissan should be honest with their customers and tell the truth about polar bears.

The Emperor penguins of “March of the Penguins” were 500,000, now they are 400 mating pairs – but they die when it gets too cold OR too warm. If you want to foist “science” on me – at least make it accurate – not politically motivated. And what is Nissan doing about the millions of Chinese cars now burning gas with no pollution standards?

Posted on September 13, 2010 at 7:38pmAs the cruise columnist for FoxBusiness I just wrote an article on Arctic cruises. It is illegal to travel in Norwegian Svalbard without a rifle to protect yourself aganist Polar Bear attacks. That’s right, you are legally required to carry a rifle (or have an armed guide with you).
If a Polar Bear attacks you must aim for the head – because even a clean shot to the heart is not enough to stop them from mauling you to death.
In fact, there are parts of the Arctic that are still uncharted that are full of Polar bears (The Russian Wrangell Island above the Bering Starit is one), Plus parts Arctic Canada. The Polar ice cap is 653,000 sq. miles – the size of Texas. They are all over it. They may seem “sparse” but they are just spread out.

But Rush was wrong. If you see one that close to you there really isn’t anything you can do. A mature polar bear can haul a 1 ton seal or small whale out of the water and onto the ice to eat it and can run down any thing it’s close to.

Posted on September 13, 2010 at 7:35pmI seen this commercial yesterday. I just rolled my eyes. Whatever.
This is what is actually important about this subject. Going green is expensive on the consumer and the tax payer. There will be a day when electric vehicles will become cost effective as technology furthers, but that technology is not here yet. It would take rich people to be the test buyers for this technology, but the government is giving tax credits and such B.S. to entice and shame the average consumer into buying these cars. These cars are not cost effective.
Just like selling or trading a vehicle that gets 18 miles per gallon that you do not owe money on to get a vehicle that gets 30 miles per gallon. Driving 15,000 miles a year a person will only save $ 1,000 a year. That sounds good until you make your loan payment of 250 dollars a month. You just went in the hole $ 2,000 in one year. Enough said!

Posted on September 13, 2010 at 9:49pmA H2 Hummer is more environmentally friendly than a Prius when you take into account industrial costs and lifespan. When you take into account all the energy used to build a Prius and the environmental impact of producing batteries for a Prius, there is no comparison. It’s the “inconvenient truth” the environmentalists don’t want you to know about.

Posted on September 14, 2010 at 12:36pmI don’t really think there will be a time that they will be economically viable either. People have been pushing electric cars since 1918. The problem is that the only reason a car like the Leaf can be “affordable” is due to government subsidies. http://autonews.gasgoo.com/global-news/nissan-says-needs-5-years-of-subsidies-for-evs-100728.shtml
It’s pretty simple just to say, gasahol has over 60 times the energy density of the best Lithium-ion battery (which is why the Leaf can only go 100 miles). But that overlooks a few things with recycling and recharging the battery.
The biggest issue, in my opinion, is the US has surprisingly little Lithium reserves. We rank 6th in the world for Lithium reserve base, and the US reserve base pales in comparison to the first and second, Bolivia and Chile respectively. South America hold 80% of the world’s know Lithium. http://evworld.com/library/lithium_shortage.pdf
I don’t understand how people are behind getting off oil, to jump to a mineral that is in much shorter supply and is much less present in the US. Reduce our foreign dependence on oil, and replace it with foreign dependence on Lithium!

Look for the paragraph that starts out saying, “Meantime, let us contemplate the CNW Marketing Research report ‘Dust to Dust: The Energy Cost of New Vehicles From Concept to Disposal,’ which concludes the gas-guzzling Hummer is more ‘environmental friendly’ than another familiar electric vehicle, the hybrid electric Prius.” The topic is covered in the next few paragraphs.

As I said, I like the IDEA of alternative energy, as a choice…not a mandate.
