‘Not Gonna Fly’: Limbaugh Offers Pre-State of the Union Analysis

During his Tuesday radio program, conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh made a few interesting predictions about President Obama’s Tuesday night State of the Union address.

Rush, a critic of many members’ decisions to ignore the traditionally divided seating arrangement, insisted Tuesday that Washington’s atmosphere of fake bipartisanship is “not gonna fly.”

“This is not what this election was about,” Limbaugh said. “The election in November was not about Republicans and Democrats getting along with each other. This is a myth the media and the Democrats continue to put forth, but it is not what that election was about. This election was about defeating Obama, it was about stopping Obama, it was about stopping the Democrats. It was not about sitting with them and getting along with him,” he said.

Additionally, Rush suggested that Democrats and Republicans choosing to sit together during Obama’s State of the Union address have one common enemy: the tea party.

Oh, I think they do get it. Give them a chance.

If you think we will clean house in 2012 then you better think again! We did a great job in 2010, but think about this: We still came way short in the Senate. Had we won that I would have more confidence, but poll after poll still show Obama has serious influence, even after all the damage he has done.

Troll, you are a goofball and a damn wimp. The democrats got destroyed in November! Not only did they get slaughtered in the House and lose seats in the senate but they lost tons of state seats too! These state seats and governors are going to have a huge effect on how congressional districts are drawn. They know how bad this is, why do you think they keep insisting we tone it down and have to work with them? We are winning this thing and you want to tread lightly?
We need to be loud and continue to push forward. We need to contrast ourselves with this totally un-American vision for our future. Conservatism, which is classical liberalism as it truly stand for individual liberty, will triumph over this nonsense as long as it properly articulated. It is what this country was built upon. This mealy-mouth republican stuff is not very inspiring at all.

I like how the sitting together thing is suppose to make a difference. Our country is not going to get fixed by parties sitting together. There has been divided sides since this country was young. It wasn‘t because the people didn’t get along, we just had a bipartisan system put it place. Frankly they did to discuss getting rid of the entitlements that take up over a third of our deficit rather than deciding that sitting together will show good face to the people. That’s bull, then the media will be like “well the dems were being nice and bipartisan”… and all that crap. It‘s just a way to get votes and that’s not what leaders are suppose to do, there suppose to have a little backbone and honor. Get that back first and that’ll start a wave of change for the better.

I think the negativity may be a bit shortsighted myself. Washington politics have always been about cooperation, that is the only way ANYTHING gets done. Just because you can talk to your enemy or sit next to him does not mean you are caving on anything. It is a silly game, but it means nothing. If the tea party candidates do not play the game then they are no better then the dems when they held the majority. We will not get this country back on the right path by brute force, if we did it would no longer be a Republic. Do not let the mistakes of the opposing side force you into the same mistakes. If we want to start dismantling obamacare and start cutting all the bureaucracy then we will need the help of many moderate dems…and RINOs…As it is Obama will veto anything that does manage to pass the Senate. But this is merely laying the groundwork for the next administration. Tea party folks, we have come so far…Do not alienate the American people at this point. We need the moderates. It is okay to stand for your values, but do not make an enemy out of everyone else.

You make sense to those who have kept up on the goings on in politics. Where I disagree with you, is in the perception this “show” gives to those who have not. For many who only watch the speech, and hear dribs and drabs of what is going on and don’t have the daily facts, this may look as if the huge number of Americans that spoke out by voting, was not really as big or as significant as it really was. It also gives the perception that the people we didn’t like for the last 4 years are still running things regardless of the large vote. I would hate to think of anyone feeling their vote was futile.

      8JRTS,

You are correct! That was the whole reason why they insisted on this foolishness in the first place. But by playing along the republicans took the wind out of their sails. It makes the republicans appear that even though they have a majority they are still willing to work with the other side.

In this case we do not need to beat them over the head with our numbers anymore. We need to go into stealth mode. Quietly create bills that fix the problems and run them through the house. Make an issue out of the senate blocking the legislating or better yet, work with the senate dems and allow Obama to take the heat for vetoing everything. Obama is going to turn this into his usual dog and pony show, it is his moment in the spotlight. More harm would be done trying to show him in a bad light at this moment, let him talk and tomorrow we can pick him apart…

Washington politics have always been about cooperation, huh? Where was the cooperation when the dems rammed through the stimulus or healthcare or wouldn’t allow republicans to offer amendments and essentially were shut out of everything? The only kind of cooperation that goes on in Washington is when we surrender our principals for the sake of getting things done and that has to stop if we are going to undo the damage done by the progressives. Otherwise, we are just heading in the same direction-LEFT! We have momentum and a fair wind at our backs but we must proceed with caution?
this is the strategy of a loser!
The progressive never compromises. When he has power he wields it like a club. When he does not, he demands cooperation and softening the rhetoric or otherwise derails, stalls, and blocks everything he can.
The American people are beyond this now. They do not want bipatisanship or cooperation they want Obama and his radical vision stopped! This is not thirty years ago it is today and we have precious little time to work with. The perception that both parties are no different from another comes directly from crap like tonight. The republicans have a golden opportunity to contrast themselves with the democrats and instead they play their stupid game . Pathetic!

The Republicans can show friendliness AS LONG AS THEY ARE FIRM, and don’t compromise.

A few Democrats may appreciate the “foundation of friendship” and eventually change their mind.

It can happen, or don’t you believe in the miracle power of prayer, or God’s faithfulness to answer prayer.

      If not, why pray?

Yes, it would “take a miracle” for some Dems to change. Sitting together just sets a foundation into which the miracle can manifest.

BTW, without God, even the Tea Partiers don’t have a chance of turning the country where it needs to go.

Agreed. It was about stopping the adance of Big Government.

I too, “shudder to think” what obama would be talking about tonight if the House had not won the majority. The House, our last best hope. Many of you are seeing the Nov. 2nd elections as a stepping stone to 2012, I do not.I see the next two years of our victories in the House and Senate as a “purse pinching” and “veto stopping’ force, but that is only limited. Until our congress has some kind of power over “executive Orders Gon Wild” We the people could have a 100 seat House and 20 Seat Senate majority and “regulation/order” proxy would NEVER be deminished. Call or email your representative office now to DEMAND they legislate executive orders and the power of agencies to legislate!

Phone calls, emails and faxes…Blah….Blah….blah……Either do something with substance or just rollover and let them have the country now. IT IS NOT BUSINESS AS USUAL IN WASHINGTON ANYMORE. COMVENTIONAL METHODS NO LONGER WORK. BECK HAS CONFIRMED THAT….

have to agree with rush and most of the commentors…this is a charade and not what they were voted in to do…I for one am glad that Michelle Bauchman is commenting on the State of the Union Address…I for one am tired of hearing the same old same old from some of our republicans…get to work and stop playing high school drama class…

I have a friend that defected from Romania 22 years ago to escape the communist. He has lived under the oppression and control that comes with Marxism and Communism. He knows of what he speaks. We have had long conversations about the state of our Union. He said unequivocally the USA is headed that way fast and closer than we realize.. He also said we haven’t seen anything yet. His recommendations in getting prepared…..Food, Water, Shelter and a means to protect yourself. He said money will be of no value. Believe it or not he is going to go back to Romania when it hits the fan here. Imagine! Fleeing America to a Socialist country for safety….Thanks for the link.

COBRA I feel for your Romainian friend, but has he considered staying and taking up hiking/camping and moving towards the Apalachian Mountains? Better to fight and maybe die for freedom here than to live on his knees in slavery.

Love you Rush! Always telling it like it is. This sitting together thing actually lets me down. I want the Republicans to stand up to these progressives, not be kissy face with them. This is why the Tea Party gets stronger and stronger. The republicans are spineless , some are RINOs and none seem to stand up to the bullying tactics of these progressives. And the democrats are even more worthless handing over their party to commie revolutionaries. I want them to take a poll on how many lifelong dems have left the party. Its disgraceful.

I have to agree with you CREWBOT. This isn’t what we voted for. We regected Obama, Pelosi, Reed and the rest of the commi agenda and we aren’t looking for them still pushing the same agenda just being nicer about it. BS as I see it.

Of course its not gonna fly. If these new congressman need to be reminded why they were elected, let them watch this excellent video of renowned artist Marc Rubin destroying his presidential portrait of Obama in 2009 – after the NEA fiasco.

It has irony and humor (both of which are still legal) . Obama is only playing at being “Madonna-Bama” and trying to reinvent himself as many accuse the singer of doing. He is a LIAR, not deserving of respect.

Rush hit this one, it gives the Dems yet another perception of victory. Some of the Republicans are either naïve or corrupt to the point of being borderline treasonous. D.C. has been controlled by individuals that consider themselves an aristocracy for so long, that they have nearly forgotten that the Government is supposed to be “of the people, by the people and for the people”. We need a term limit amendment. The days of holding an office for decades and in cases multiple generations’ needs to cease. Though, it already may very well be too late. You have seen China increasing their military by 3 to 5 percent per year for many years now. Out of curiosity, who would they be gearing up to confront, Taiwan? Our politicians are selling our uranium mines to Russia, discussing allowing China to build an airport in Utah while they steal information from Los Alamos (a mere couple years ago), D.C. bans the U.S. companies from drilling in the Gulf for oil while other countries are procuring long term leases to do the very same and during all of this, Washington allows our border to be flooded by who knows how many illegals who have a hatred for America rather than wanting to assimilate. Our country is in full blown melt down mode and we get caught up in the distraction of right or left, political civility, and bicker over taking 2 ½ hours to read the Constitution. It defies logic; then to add insult to injury, you have Donald Trump testing the political waters sounding like Ronald Reagan reincarnated, and behind the scenes is donating $50K to Rahm Emanuel for the Mayoral bid in Chicago. The mantra of ‘if their lips are moving they are lying’ appears to never have been truer than in most of today’s politicians.

The seating arrangement did seem to keep a lid on the insidious clapping. Seems pretty hypocritical to be complaining after the silly pony show of reading the Constitution.
