Limbaugh Unleashes on Romney‘s ’Poor’ & ‘Safety Net’ Comments…for a Different Reason

Rush Limbaugh Angry Over Mitt Romneys Stance on Entitlements | Poor and Safety Net CommentsRepublican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is likely still kicking himself over his statement about the poor on CNN yesterday.

While he went on to clarify what he actually meant, it’s likely the soundbite (i.e. “I’m not concerned about the very poor.”) will come back to haunt him again before November. While many have been angry over what seemed to be a dismissive comment about helping those most in need, radio host Rush Limbaugh is frustrated for a different reason — Romney’s refusal to rail against entitlement programs as they currently stand.

“The safety net is one of the biggest cultural problems we’ve got! We had better be worried about it just like we had better get angry over Obamacare,” Limbaugh said on the air yesterday.

“Obamacare is worth getting mad about. Mitt said that it wasn’t. This biz, ‘I’m not concerned about the very poor. We have a safety net there’? Right, the safety net is contributing to the destruction of their humanity and their futures!,” he continued.

In addition to having these qualms, Limbaugh also expressed his concern that the soundbite will become an electoral liability for Romney. In reflecting the sentiment that many have voiced in recent weeks, Limbaugh said that Romney “comes across as the prototypical rich Republican.” This, especially considering the current economic climate, could hurt Romney should he win the nomination.

Obama is going to easily tie this idiots hands from saying anything, but hey keep listening to Glenn about Caliphate while in reality we don’t have a chance in hell with out a true conservative.

What Romney proved with his dumb statement is that he doesn’t have a clue regarding the powers vested in the Constitution.

There is NO allowance for providing for the “General welfare” as the phrase is being applied today.

Congress has not unlimited powers to provide for the general welfare, but only those specifically enumerated.
      Thomas Jefferson

“If Congress can do whatever in their discretion can be done by money, and will promote the general welfare, the government is no longer a limited one possessing enumerated powers, but an indefinite one subject to particular exceptions.” -James Madison

“With respect to the two words “general welfare,” I have always regarded them as qualified by the detail of powers connected with them. To take them in a literal and unlimited sense would be a metamorphosis of the Constitution into a character which there is a host of proofs was not contemplated by its creators”. — James Madison, letter to James Robertson

Would SOMEONE please explain these words to Romney?

Here are some of the A-Bombs about to come down on Romney by the DNC/Meadia. Besides of course Romney Care wich is bad and known:
1*Romney is a John F. Karey robot elitest.
2*Romney is a Morman; they will explore this in the most disgusting ways imaginable.
3*Romney’s Grandfather and Father were born in Mexico in a Polymgamist Mormon compound.
All of the investigators that went to Wassilla are there now .
4*Birther alert—Romney’s dad ran for president of the United States and by all accounts (including Mitt) he was born in Mexico. Remember there is always a double standard.
5*Romney’s cousins including cousins with the Romney name still live in the Polygamist compound in Mexico. BTW they are being interviewed thoroughly now by the Wassilla crew. Yes, American women are going to love this. I am even going to be in trouble with my wife too. What did I do.
6*There is a new series reality show coming out on Polygamists this fall. What are the chances?
7*Romney has a Camen and Swiss bank account.

Guys, I really do not know if Romney is electable.

Hey, I love Glenn Beck but I’ve been against Romney since the beginning. I’ve made my case repeatedly in the comments section on the glennbeck website. Romney is right up there with Gingrich and Huntsman as the worst of the candidates. Any of the others would have been better than any one of those three. I wish we could start all over again and eliminate those three right off the bat.

In other news – Craziness! Rush has been saying almost exactly what I’ve been saying lately. I think he may be stealing my material. ;-)

I’m leaning with the comments of Detroit Paperboy. Socialism, that‘s what we’re talking about here, creates a culture of vultures, the takers who know nothing about responsibility. Let’s change that and get these folks off the couch and into the streets and parks to pay off their debt to society. Afterall, we’re just asking for them to pay just a little bit of their FAIR SHARE, WHICH NOW IS ZERO.

Clearly there are a lot of people who post on the Blaze who don’t know squat about Glenn Beck. Glenn has been saying for months that his first choice was Bauchman and his second choice is Santorum. He’s never backed Romney.

Anyone behind Gingrich is a glutten for failure. There is so much dirt and baggage on Newt that the democrats are licking their chops at the prospects of having him as a target. We need a strong conservative candidate with the least amount of garbage … we need Santorum.

The safety net is one of the biggest cultural problems we’ve got! …. Actually there is a great case to be made it is the ME GENERATION. The ones who enjoyed good funding when they were in school and lower college tuition provided by taxes paid by the working community at large. Now that they are older they seek to cut taxes and not provide the same for the younger generation. Case in point. Through the 1980′s the state of Ohio covered 70% of the cost of in state colleges and universities. Today that figure is 17%. The point is not that one figure is better or worse than the other. The point is many individuals take for granted the schools, colleges and infrastructure that were provided for them while they were coming up. Now they want to cut taxes regardless of the consequences. For the ME GENERATION it is all about them, not the community, not the country.

Sorry, but you are ignoring the obvious, as it is the entitlement mentality of ME ME ME…that has gotten us into this mess.

Politicians capitalize on the fact that they can bribe the slothful ones into voting for them, which is no different than buying votes.

It’s not difficult to get stupid people to vote for you if you promise them money from the treasury in exchange for their vote.

Even if the Feds were to tax the so called “rich” at 100% it would not even come close to balancing the budget, as the entitlement mentality has simply gotten out of control.

You also ignore the fact that private schools get much better results for far less money.

The founders knew what would happen if we listened to people like you…

@Freedomluver “You also ignore the fact that private schools get much better results for far less money.” Really please site 20 examples of such. And don’t leave out the churches contribution and outside fund raising for the catholic schools when you total up the spending. Do yourself a favor and actually look at the federal budget and who actually has benefited most from the transfer of wealth through the Federal ATM. Once again Medicare and SS are funded separately and still solvent so they are not the problem yet. The demographics dictate that the funding for them should have been raised in the past, but that was not done by cowardly politicians. At least Reagan tried to fix it. After those two it is the Defense budget and Medicare. Since we spend twice as much per capita on healthcare than the next highest country perhaps we are compensating drug companies, medical equipment and physicians too much. Oh and spare me you higher ideological ground stance. Many of the founding fathers also foresaw what is really happening… that is when the wealthy, the corporations and the banks become so influential as to direct public policy and government to their own devices. We have the best politicians money can buy on both sides of the isle….. and its not the poor who buy and own them. You do have a point though that the poor of the ME GENERATION would focus on themselves also.

Read this and then tell me just why you have a leg to stand on.

      http://www.constitution.org/je/je4_cong_deb_12.htm

James Madison, Feb. 3, 1792 “…It is to be recollected that the terms “common defence and general welfare,” as here used, are not novel terms, first introduced into this Constitution. They are terms familiar in their construction, and well known to the people of America. They are repeatedly found in the old Articles of Confederation, where, although they are susceptible of as great a latitude as can be given them by the context here, it was never supposed or pretended that they conveyed any such power as is now assigned to them. …If Congress can employ money indefinitely to the general welfare, and are the sole and supreme judges of the general welfare…they may appoint TEACHERS in every state, county, and parish, and pay them out of their public treasury; they may take into their own hands the EDUCATION OF CHILDREN, establishing in like manner schools throughout the Union; they may assume the provision for the poor;… in short, every thing, from the highest object of state legislation down to the most minute object of police, would be thrown under the power of Congress; for every object I have mentioned would admit of the application of money, and might be called, if Congress pleased, provisions for the general welfare”

Now just where do you find the right in the Constitution for the Feds to get involved in education?

Glenn in his past was a mean drunk but changed for the better and asked forgiveness. He sound kind honest and truthful in his words.

Romney is a liberal moderate the status quo the establishment. but I have never heard him changed or asked forgiveness. All I hear is excuses and platitudes.

I have heard Mitt say that over the years his opinion on certain issues have changed and matured.
This makes perfect sense to me, because if I think about what I believed in my 20′s, and compare to what I believe now in my 50′s – it would be disappointing except to say that I have changed and matured. All I can do is look at his marriage if I want to judge the value of the man’s character – he’s been married over 40 years to his high school sweetheart. He is opposed to abortion. He will terminate Obamacare. He wants a strong military. He is opposed to those who persecute Christians. He knows how to balance a budget and rehabilitate a failing economy. And – best of all – he is the ONLY candidate who meets or beats Obama in the national polls (see Real Clear Politics). None of the others even come close. Consider that – if you really want to get rid of the Obamanation.

Without having an entire revolution and going completely libertarian, we have to have something. I know what all thse pundits and back seat drivers say, as I have lrestored my life from the gates of hell. I know how the spirit works, I understand the people will help each other out and take care of one another, we don’t need the government. However, unfortunately, the Hard Right, has driven so hard on religion, a great many people have grown up to despise it. I have spoken to them over and over again and quite honestly, understand the hypocrisy they speak of. I hate it myself, as I have witnessed it in these elections. I love those who say they believe Newt has changed his ways and asked for forgiveness, EVERY PROGRESSIVE always talks the talk of the time or era. The acts of Newt are those of hypocrisy, he shouldn’t be given a pass no more than the next guy. The left makes jokes about Newt around the clock. What kind of Christian does he represent ?? If conservative aren’t going to hold a standard and are going to make exceptions for anybody who says they are sorry after such an offense as a serial adulterer, Not to mention the women are home wreckers, so what does that say about them ?? Personally, I don’t care, but then again, I am not trying to pretend to be Mr. Conservative. Just sayin

According to fb, even the majority of my clueless friends and family (dems & repubs) are skeptical of the media. These type of “out of context” attacks on our candidates will only work if we pick them up and start repeating them on our own conservative candidates. We need to deny and ridicule any person who tries to pin these stupid things on ANY of our candidates. This is one thing I have learned from the left. They may disagree with eachother, but they repeat over and over and over again the premise they want to create about us until people get tired of fighting and give up. This tactic will work on the side of truth as well… only if we are willing to stick together. This is Glenn’s ultimate question to us. Are we willing to stand with candidates or religious beliefs at the end of the day, that we totally disagree with?

Yes, Rush is right. Moderate mush is what got us into this position, attacks are only good if they are true, and if you look at the information, there isn‘t enough bad stuff that hasn’t been explained or changed to amount to a hill of beans against Newt. Mitt commits to old platitudes and the people believe them because corrections are not spoken to correct them. Newt knows how to fix unemployment and welfare, he did it with a Dumocrat as president, Mitt has now said attach minimum wages to cost of living, Obamacare is no big deal, and not worried about the poor, there is a safety net to save them. 57 points to correct the economy is another platitude because it only takes a couple negative votes or filibusters to mess the whole thing up and then he has an excuse for its failure.

Make the tax code less complicated and what do you get? More money in your pocket and more taxes coming in. Remove 34 (or more) Czars and you could save billions (easily), Obamacare gone, tons saved there, OJT jobs training and a credit to business to assist (lots of jobs there), drill, baby, drill, keep more money inside our borders, along with the oil pipeline from Canada.

As Newt said, the recovery will start the minute the election results come in and he is the winner.

      Walker Recall
Walker’s campaign, in a press release entitled “Grassroots donors fuel Walker fundraising,” crowed that about three-quarters of the governor’s more than 21,000 contributions since Dec. 11 came in amounts of $50 or less. The release did not mention that this grassroots support — including about $415,000 in itemized donations and $61,000 in lump sums from donors who gave $20 or less — accounted for only about 10 percent of the governor’s total receipts. Meanwhile, 65 percent of Walker’s nearly $4.6 million total came from individual donors who gave $1,000 or more.

Point is we have the best politicians money can buy.

Rush is wrong as SS and Medicare are not entitlements as they have dedicated funding. It is our money. The problem is the federal government gave those programs IOUs. As for Medicaid that is a political animal created by the hospitals and physicians to offset the cost of providing care to the poor. As for welfare and food stamps program, both of which are a miniscule portion of the federal budget, the aid received by a family of 3 is around $9,500, half the amount of the poverty level.

While Rush rants about the safety net, he also promotes elimination of the minimum wage, which of course would result in more people falling below the poverty line.

Amen! And one of the biggest problems is that although Rush and many of the hard conservatives are right concerning a lot of the entitlements and the direction we need to take the country, they forget some of the basic laws of physics. Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it. The question is how much external force is needed to correct the current trajectory, and what happens if too much force is applied too soon? Anyone who has ridden in a vehicle knows the feeling of slamming brakes and even perhaps smacking their head on the dashboard. This nation would implode if we made immediate hard course corrections that some conservatives argue for. You cant make a hard 90 degree turn in a ship as big as the good old US of A. You can however, easily begin to course correct. Mitt is, in my opinion, a good start to begin to clean house. Next, let us make the most of a more conservative approach and not blow it like we did last time. Continue to elect more conservative leadership and slowly our course will be corrected provided we keep choosing conservative leaders and not allow them to betray those who elected them like those that Newt led during the first Conservative revolution and the contract with America.

“Safety net” is just one more hijacked phrase meaning Marxism. What we need is a “prosperity tract” of opportunity for all. Dependency has failed! Opportunity is as simple as supply and demand. More opportunity = more success. Less opportunity = less success. Marxism cannot take root where opportunity exists. Marxism needs dependency and control over the “collective” (worker/slave of the State) in order to produce even the slightest subsistence.

We are not used to having a problem solver that focuses so strongly on the biggest problem. He is not concerned about the “poor” because they are not the problem. Our economic strength does not come from raising their already high standard of living. It comes from raising the earning potential of the middle class. The standard of living for our poor will automatically increase with the increase in wealth of the middle range of income generators in this country. Ergo his focus and his off-hand comment. He wasn’t perfectly careful. Guess we should support Gingrich. Duh.

Go read Ann Coulter’s article, “Three Cheers for Romneycare”. Then ask why she left out the achitect of Romneycare. Do you know why? He’s the same architect for Obamacare. Wonder why Glenn hasn’t mentioned this.

Also, when Glenn interviewed Ann the other day, and was gushing, why didn’t Beck ask Ann when she said, “If Christie doesn’t run for President, Romney will be the nominee and we will lose?”

@Enough. The “architect” of Romneycare was the Heritage Foundation, specifically, Robert Moffit and Ed Haislmaier of Heritage. Romney may have had an advisor who ended up advising the Obama administration, but to call him the “architect” to make it appear that they are the same is dishonest. Heritage designed Romneycare because the federal government is already mandating “free” healthcare for all, by requiring hospitals to treat whoever shows up. At the time, requiring people to take responsibility to pay for their own care sounded like the “conservative” alternative to a system that is allowing parasites to shift the costs of their care to people who were paying for insurance or the taxpayers. The “individual mandate” has turned out to be the hot button, and our best chance of overturning Obamacare in the courts, and that is to the good. But, given the state of federal law, I can’t think of anything else that a state government could do to solve the problem of “free riders” — a disproportionate number of whom are illegal aliens — who are draining billions out of our health care system. Can you?

To me, the biggest difference between what Romney did and what Obama has done is that Romneycare is designed to keep the provision of services — insurance and medical care — in the private sector to the greatest degree. Obamacare is designed to ultimately destroy the private sector, and make doctors into virtual slaves of the state.

      To me,

Chaos in the Massachusetts Health Care Market

      Peter Suderman | April 9, 2010

Want a preview of ObamaCare in action? Check out the Massachusetts insurance market—which earlier this week entered a state of “market chaos” after Governor Deval Patrick denied a host of health insurance rate increases.

On Tuesday, the state‘s individual insurance market effectively shut down as insurers refused to comply with the state’s rejection of 235 of 274 proposed health insurance rate increases.

In a press conference following the board’s decision, Massachusetts Association of Health Plans Executive Director Lora Pelligrini said Patrick’s approach didn’t attack the real cost drivers in the state.

“What the Patrick administration has engaged in is a failed policy,” Pellegrini said. “The real problem with health-care costs is the prices charged by certain providers who have a lot of market clout.”

Pellegrini said the Patrick administration’s attempts to impose rate caps threaten the continued existence of health insurance companies in Massachusetts. The three biggest Massachusetts health insurance companies are nonprofits, and in 2009 they posted massive financial losses. The rate caps are expected to lead to further losses of an additional $100 million, likely leading to their collapse.

@gramma b Once again you focus on the individual as thought they had something to do with the creation of Medicare or Medicaid. And while physicians were initially against Medicare, they soon came to love it and depend on it. The real issue is that we spend twice as much per capita on healthcare than the next highest country. So perhaps the hospital industry, drug companies, medical equipment companies and physicians are being compensated too much for their services. It is important to remember that the drug and medical equipment companies sell the same drugs and equipment under different names in different countries for half of what they are sold here. You want to find real answers than follow the money. Look who lobbies against cutting Medicare. Look who lobbies against cutting Medicaid. It’s not the poor FOLLOW THE MONEY.

Problem is health care is at the end of the day a social good. And our capitalistic driven system has resulted in a cost per capita that is twice as high as the next highers country. And care when measured for all citizens is not as good as it is in the higher WHO rank health care systems. You just can’t say you exceptional, you have to be exceptional.

It will be a soundbite that will hurt him because none of these people are concerned with telling the truth. And no one is calling them on it.

My favorite part of all the debates was when Santorum called Romney on funding abortion in Romney care. Romney claimed that the word abortion doesn‘t appear anywhere in the bill but Santorum pointed out that governors know full well that if the bill doesn’t specifically disallow abortion that the courts require any bills covering health care in general must cover abortion. Romney was aware of this. Not only did he know that Romneycare would fund abortions HE TRIED TO MISLEAD US INTO THINKING HE DIDN’T KNOW IT!!!!! Of course he knew it. I believe he’s pro life. I believe he didn‘t try to put this into the bill because he knew the legislators in his state wouldn’t abide it. But instead of telling us the truth, he tried to mislead us.

I’m a skeptic. You have to earn my trust. For me, Romney proved that he’s willing to mislead me to get my vote. How can I trust anything he says after this?
