Listen to the Prank Call of ‘Saddam Hussein’ Played on a Former Iraqi Official

Ever since Saddam was killed in 2006, Elvis-like rumors have swirled regarding his existence, mainly that he still has one. So it’s no surprise that a YouTube video of a prankster calling a former high-ranking Iraqi official and posing as Saddam is garnering a lot of attention.
The target was Hassan al-Allawi, who was once a close friend of Saddam’s. And while he was never full convinced it was Saddam on the other line, he did comment the prankster.
“Saddam used certain words and emotions when he talked to me,” he told the New York Times. “And this guy had all those words and emotions in this call.”
The Times explains the actual call:
The tale of Mr. Hussein’s recent phone call began about two weeks ago when Hassan al-Allawi, a writer and politician who was once a Baath Party member and close friend of Mr. Hussein, received a phone call at home. When he realized who the caller was purporting to be, he put the voice on a speaker for his dinner guests.
“The guests were scared,” Mr. Allawi said in a telephone interview Thursday from Beirut. “They said, ‘That is Saddam.’ ”
He added, “If I didn’t believe that Saddam was killed, I would say this is the real Saddam.”
So what did “Saddam” say? Very Saddam-like things, such as, “I will burn the Green Zone and I will make it red with the blood of the traitors,” and claiming a body double was used in 2006 during his execution.

Report Post »1) He was not “killed” in 2006…he was executed by being hanged on what appeared to be a staircase.
2) Though obviously scared, he met his death with some measure of dignity and courage.
3) Our first hint that the human trash in the ME were not worth saving (and certainly not worth 1 drop of American blood) came during the execution when those charged with carrying it out acted like disgusting animals from start to finish by hurling insults, threats, curses and spitting on the tied man even as the noose was placed around his neck.

As far as the video, as one who speaks Arabic, I actually really enjoyed this. Good practice, although Gulf Arabic isn’t my forte.
