‘Lizard Brains’ Redux: Huffington Repeats Analogy But Gets Exposed by TV Host

Last month Huffington Post founder Arianna Huffington blamed support for Christine O’Donnell on people using their “lizard brains.” The insinuation being that only small-minded people would buy into O’Donnell and her ideas.
Now she’s at it again.
Appearing on Friday’s “Morning Joe,” Huffington used the analogy with host Joe Scarborough to describe why people would vote for Republicans next week:
People are operating out of fear and anxiety at the moment. And when they operate out of fear and anxiety, they operate out of what they call their ‘lizard brains.’ Lizard brains are not susceptible to rationality. That’s why the argument of, ‘you just voted them out and you want to vote them in’ isn’t going to cut it.
Mediaite’s Steve Krakauer explains what happened next when Scarborough called out Huffington:
“Lizard brains? Is that what Americans did in ‘08 when they elected a state senator President of the United States?” asked Scarborough. “Was that fear?”
“No, that was hope,” said Huffington, to some chuckles from the panel.
A couple minutes later, Scarborough summed it up: “When democrats win people are using the hope side of their brain, when Republicans win, people are using the lizard side of their brain.”
Did Scarborough just use his lizard brain to expose Huffington’s argument? I think so:

Posted on October 29, 2010 at 1:31pmInteresting Fact: The average cost of a primary education at a private Christian school is $6,000 per student per year and the average cost at a public school is ~$10,000 ($24,600 in DC); the average SAT score for students graduating from Christian schools is 10% higher than the average score for students from public schools. Question: Why are Christians allowing our country to be taken over by liars and thieves?

Posted on October 29, 2010 at 2:22pmLTB- I’m a conservative too but you cannot compare statistics of public vs private schools like that. Teachers in my area at parochial schools make literally minimum wage, and they are expected to stay late and participate in after school events. That is no way to treat educators with bachelors degrees. Of course private schools will be cheaper.
As for the test scores, maybe it is because the better students with richer or more supportive parents can afford it.
Kabooyah
Posted on October 29, 2010 at 3:38pmMATTPSU, be careful giving credit to better SAT scores due to people that can afford it. Most schools offer assitance programs for those that can’t. More credit goes to the teachers that teach because they believe in it and not for the money and parents because they are willing to make the sacrifices to be part of their kids lives. My wife and I have one income because we believed in raising our children and not paying someone else to. We send them to a private catholic school because it is a better atmosphere for our kids that incorporates faith and learning together. This is not because we can afford it, but because we make sacrifices to do so.

I’m so tired of hearing how teachers are underpaid (no longer true) and how much they sacrifice, even though they have bachelor’s degrees. This is America, nobody is forcing you to be a teacher…if you don’t like the pay, go away. Teacher’s get all the great bennies to make up for their so-called “low pay”. If I don’t like how much I;m being paid to do my job, I’m free to find another…..if you love your job then pay shouldn’t matter. Stop your whining or find another job.

I also believe the culture and student that is just there to be there in the liberal arts department is set up to be indoctrinated into a socialist mindset. It seems today that the back east and California higher ed institutions are social engineering factories. Big Education is worse then Big Oil? Shoot I can get 4 barrels of oil for what a text book cost today????? And the oil won’t lie to me:)
ltb
Posted on October 30, 2010 at 12:18amMattPSU, yes you can compare public vs private schools like that. Did it ever occur to you that teachers who are willing to work at minimum wage may be more committed to teaching children than teachers in unions who demand $95,000 a year? After I got my master’s degree I worked for $24,000 a year at a psychiatric clinic for the homeless – I did it for the intrinsic rewards, not so I could get rich and I was happy to do it. Also, the SAT score differences speak for themselves, that’s why they are called standardized tests.
Report Post »Doc_Slammin
Posted on October 31, 2010 at 12:06amLTB : I agree with your assessment of private schooling vs public schooling. What MattPSU fails to realize is that each privately or home schooled child reduces the taxes needed to publicly educate a child by $10,000 a year.
…and to answer your question IMHO:
You want to know how the Christians of this nation could let it be taken over by liars and thieves? I say unto you, give this nation’s church-goers a Biblical test and you shall find the answer you seek.

Electing Obama was hope. He was elected by minorities, independents, the left, among others.
He is now largely abandoned by many of those same minorities and independents. His base isn’t energized. The college crowd has left. Even the radical left has criticized him.
And they have done that from fear? How about disappointment.
There really is only 2 motivators for voting. Hope and anger. You hope your politician does something you approve of, or you are angry that the other politician is a complete bust.

Tying to the News yesterday of the discovery of a Liberal Gene: One of the differences of people with the 7R version of the DRD4 gene (the version associated in the paper with liberals) is that it affects the dopamine receptors on the Amygdala structure in the brain. (google Amygdala DRD4)
The Amygdala structure is part of the brain that regulates fear. DRD4-7R individuals are reported in scientific papers as engaging in high risk activities BECAUSE THE NORMAL FEAR RESPONSE is diminished by the gene.
The 7R version of the DRD4 gene is the mutation and occurs in 20% -30% of the population, the 7R version of the gene is calculated to be 5-10 times younger than, the more common occurring, about 65%, 4R version of the gene.
