Somewhere, the crocodile hunter is smiling.
A boat full of tourists got to snap the picture of lifetime while floating down Australia’s Adalaide river last week. That’s because a giant saltwater crocodile leaped out of the water right next to the boat:
The picture was taken by photographer Katrina Bridgeford. According to the Telegraph, the 5.5m croc has a name, Brutus:
Ms Bridgeford was on the cruise with sons Jordan, 14, and Dylan Woodward, 11 as well as four-year-old niece Skye Bridgeford and boyfriend Daniel Wilson. Dylan had only two words when the massive man-eater rose out of the water in front of the group: “Holy crap!” The huge saltwater crocodile, which is missing its right front leg, is a favourite with tourists on the Adelaide River Cruises, because he loves his meal of buffalo meat and always puts on a good show for it.
Saltwater crocodiles are the largest living reptiles in the world. Males can grow to between 6-7 meters and weigh 1,000-2,000 pounds.
UPDATE:
For those doubting the picture’s authenticity, Australian news outlet NT News sent the photo to a photoshop expert who said the data shows it’s real:
“I couldn’t believe some of the sceptics rantings on the web after checking out the comments. For what its worth, I ripped down the original and checked it out and guess what? Those [I know photoshop experts] as per usual [know] absolutely nothing at all apart from having an amazing ability to make dumb statements.
“The Meta data still exists on the image and its all there including time date compact camera details and exposure all are spot on, the croc is wet, he has water sheen on his right flank in the shadow detail. Everyone is looking straight at him including the two with cameras. And last but best of all, look very carefully at the guy in the red shirt with the mobile phone camera, then look again at his sunglasses…yep the croc is reflected in one of the lenses…and not a pixel out of place.”
Others agree, too.
And here’s your chance to go on a video tour with the Jumping Croc Cruise crew:

Posted on July 13, 2011 at 5:34pmI would have to say that it’s real. If it wasn’t real, Capt. Hook would be hanging out around there somewhere so he must have seen his nemesis and took off for the high hills. I figure the croc is asking the tourists where Hook ran off to.

Posted on July 13, 2011 at 8:57pmI vote for NOT real. If you were sitting within touching distance, wouldn’t you find yourself crumpled to the floor trying to get away?!? It’s one existing front leg is just hanging by its body …. not even using it for balance. And the wake is barely big enough for a 200 pound man lunging from the water not a 2000 pound crocodile that leaps out of the water by half its body length for an itty bitty piece of meat that it misses and ends up dangling behind his head …. NOT!

Posted on July 14, 2011 at 12:01pmI guarantee you if a monster that size came up out of the water the tourists would be reeling in horror trying to get away from it. THe photo is fake. Look at the people. They look like nothing is even there, let alone a prehistoric gigantic freak croc. Phoney!

Posted on July 13, 2011 at 4:25pmI have a 5 ft gator in the back of the house. I got it to come out of the water and it was still wet. It dries quickly though. But you are right. Photoshop. Look at the peoples faces. They are looking elsewhere and one guy is taking a picture of something totally different. I am use to seeing gators…but if one that big jumped next to my pontoon…I would sh….t myself. Besides it would have eaten one of the people instead of that little piece of fish. Amazing what you can do in photo shop.

Posted on July 13, 2011 at 4:13pmphotoshop, dont you think? the croc “leaping out of the water” is perfectly dry, no water streaming down the body. look at the ripple of water in front of the croc, see the wake from the croc but there is none from the boat. little wake behind the croc and everyone is just sitting there.

Posted on July 13, 2011 at 8:14pmWrong. It‘s a good thing you’re not in forensics. This picture is indeed real. Of course a huge croc like that would leave a wake as it’s moving from horizontal to vertical in the water. The boat is sitting still.
