While covering the floods in White County, AR on Tuesday, KARK-TV news reporter Adam Rodriguez and photographer Casey Moore spotted a woman trying to drive her SUV over a heavily-flooded road. She failed. Eventually, the fast-rushing water started sweeping her away and engulfing her vehicle.
That’s when Rodriguez decided to tie a rope around himself, wade in water nearly up to his neck, and rescue the woman. And Moore caught it all on camera:

Posted on June 2, 2011 at 10:33amFlowing water is tough to judge.
I had our boat out doing water rescues a few years back and as they called us out of the area cause the last road was starting to flood we left.
I had a truck full of people and about 30 on the boat.
The water was 2 inches deep and flowing, the trailer started to be moved by the water, to the point I though I was going to loose it, the truck, and all 50 people I had with me.
Stay out of the water, regardless how deep it is if it has any flow to it.
I will give a big cudo to reporter. That is a man did the right thing.

Posted on June 2, 2011 at 10:09amMy mother made this same mistake driving a little Subaru wagon back in 77. She could not see the depth of the water and it was night. Luckily, she walked away, and the car dried out, 6 months later and started right up. Subaru rocks.
Report Post »Lucky for this lady it was daytime. What WAS she thinking? Just look at the darn telephone poles.

Posted on June 2, 2011 at 9:18amThe water’s only 3 or 4 inches deep. My eight year-old could have crossed it on her bicycle. It’s obvious she was texting and veered off the road into much deeper water. Tsk tsk.

Posted on June 2, 2011 at 9:14amBrave reporter…but…Why would they stand idly by as she drove in? There was no sound during that part…they were suspiciously right by her tire filming the water as her tire cut through it…Seems like they would have tried to stop her……hmmmm…

Posted on June 2, 2011 at 9:05amI think the spin here is “rushing” waters???? Anybody experience a rip tide? Stupid thing to do but to me a coincedence a news crew covers a vehicle driving non-chalant into a road covered in water?Smells like a publicity stunt to relevance for the media.

Posted on June 2, 2011 at 8:46amGlad she is safe and kudos to the guy who rescued her. Could have turned out a whole lot worse.
Now that this moronic act of driving into water (how many times do people have to be warned??) is on film, it would be interesting to see if her insurance carrier would care to have a copy to use in their denial of claim. Seems that stupidity should not be born by the insurance company.
Good grief…………………are people really this stupid??

Posted on June 2, 2011 at 10:28amDuly noted! By the way, did you hear about the blonde that was found dead by the side of the road? She had a running suit on and an Ipod whose battery was dead. When the investigator recharged the battery, he listened to the Ipod to find all it contained was; “breathe in, breathe out, breathe in, breathe out….”

Posted on June 2, 2011 at 8:00pmKinda makes me mad because that reporter could have lost his life to save this moron. Imagine the vehicle shifting suddenly and trapping him underneath! Stupid, stupid, stupid girl. Maybe she was texting and didn’t notice that big flood of rushing water.

Posted on June 2, 2011 at 11:02amSTARK contrast to:
Report Post »http://www.mercurynews.com/breaking-news/ci_18177414?nclick_check=1
where police just stood and watched for 45 minutes while a man drowned in water up to his neck. FORTY-FIVE MINUTES they WATCHED him DROWN.
Why? They say they were following ‘new policy’ and claim the ‘new policy’ was due to ‘budget cuts’.
Here’s the interesting part… The SOCIALIST LIBS are scrambling to USE this as a poster child against budget cuts! WTF? Really? This wasn’t CAUSED by budget cuts. It was caused by irrespsonible police and firefighters who would rather follow a policy than save a man’s life!
Then there was the citizen who happened upon the situation and tried to save the man herself. But, she had arrived too late. I wonder how much ‘budget’ she had for training and equipment??
This has GOT to STOP!!!
