A local news station’s helicopter flying over the Las Vegas area capturing flash flood footage brought on from a deluge of rain Wednesday, spotted a group of men taking advantage of a flood channel . . . on an air mattress.

KTNV reports its Action News Hawk spied the men who “cheered and waved as they floated shirtless down the rushing flood channel.” It filmed this footage of their endeavors:
But KTNV wasn’t the only helicopter in the air above Henderson, Nev., yesterday afternoon. It reports a police helicopter ordering the men out of the water, at which point they pulled their floatation device from the rushing stream. It has not been reported if a citation was issued for rafting on the potentially dangerous water.
The Sacramento Bee reported weather conditions were such that a few motor accidents occurred while others stalled. About 14,000 customers lost electricity for a brief period in one Las Vegas neighborhood as well. The flooding was the result of an inch and a half of rain being dropped within an hour.

Posted on August 24, 2012 at 4:24amGonna get me an air mattress. They look like three red necks. Give you the shirt off their backs if you asked. Or if you needed help moving they would be there with a truck. No charge. Just about the opposite of a progressive. One type of folks are givers and the others are takers. One type wants to control all the others and the other kind wants to live as free as possible. One wants to be the elite and enslave the other. One lives by hate and the other by love.

Posted on August 23, 2012 at 6:47pmCould someone get more busybody than this? Potentially dangerous current? What do you call white water rafting? The only citation that should be written is for the news crew that may have falsely alerted the police to what they perceived as someone having a bit of fun.

Posted on August 23, 2012 at 1:11pmWhen I was a kid living in Lawton OK back in the 70′s we would use the old single Army air mattress to do the same thing but we would run the concrete storm ditches….I remember getting stuck in a culvert running under a road until the water pressure built up behind me and shot me out like a cannon…ahh good times. Oh and I also road in a car without seat belts and lived in house with lead paint…I’m 51 and still kicking.

Posted on August 23, 2012 at 9:07amI was a country girl raised in the E.Texas woods. I remember climbing onto the roof of the barn with my sister and cousins to have spit races down the roof, driving a jeep ( at age 13 ) through the pastures with a .22 to shoot armadillos because the holes they dug could cause the cows to get hurt. We would swing off wild grapevines out of trees, ride horses like Comanches, swim in rivers and creeks, chase snakes………the list is endless. These are the things we girls did. What my brother and the other boys did would curl your hair.
Those are the type of things we did the minute we got out of Mom and Dad’s sight and somehow we survived. Ahh…..redneck fun in the good old days.

Posted on August 23, 2012 at 9:32amRecently while just floating on some inner tubes on a Ct. Lake on a hot summer day we were approached by a D.E.P. officer who informed us we needed a flotation device while on a watercraft. We tried to explain that the tube was a floatation device and not a watercraft. He threatened us with large fines and arrest and ruined our lazy day of floating on an inner tube.

Posted on August 23, 2012 at 1:20pmThe real danger is that the Nanny State, in its mounting and constant abhorrence of anything remotely dangerous and likely to result in the least little bobo will so frustrate the human spirit over time that one fine summer day we will all simply erupt into spontaneous, bloody, riotous warfare and revolution. The first to go will be anybody or anything remotely resembling an authority symbol of figure.
It will be just like when the Japanese exploded in bloody sadism upon China and the rest of the world after lifetimes of hyper social control. Gotta leave some play in the ropes or else… Yes, some people will die from pushing the envelope too far. So f-ing what? It is a small percentage and the rest of us are far better off for having dared and lived! That’s what REAL humans do! I don’t know about you, but I am personally getting pretty sick of government fencing me in and trying to hold my hand… Why are organized humans so stupid?

True, some people do die having fun. I can still recall the excitement of the moment on some of the things I did. And not so long a go. Life can be exciting if you make it that way. Adventure is what helped make this the country that it is

Posted on August 23, 2012 at 8:23amI see guys like this, and just smile. I cannot count the dumb things I did in my younger years that did not kill or seriously injure me.
When I was on the enlisted side and working as a squad leader at 3/75 Ranger, I got called into the Company Commander’s office on a Monday morning. I had no idea what for. I got a slight butt chewing, because some of my squad members got picked up by the MPs. In the dark of night, they were jumping off from Eddie Bridge into the Chattahoochee River (about sixty foot drop).
I was not mad that they did it, I was mad because they got caught, and did not invite me to go along.

Posted on August 23, 2012 at 8:57amAlthough I didn’t vote for Obama, I have been as stupid as this. I went to the beach during a heavy northeast storm, walked out on the jetty, climbed the navigation aid tower at the end of the jetty and sat up top smoking a dubee and admiring the storm. When I climbed down the tide had come in and waves were washing completely over the jetty. I had to run, then jump down and anchor myself to a rock with my arms as the wave washed over me, and repeat the process about a dozen times to get to shore. When I did the Coast Guard was waiting for me with some unkind words.

Real Rangers would use a zodiak boat, like they do during the boat movements down the Yellow River at Eglin Airforce Base (home of Florida phase of Ranger School). Then again, only one of us humped a rucksack through East Bay swamp and tore our shins up on the cypress stumps, or did the raid via zodiaks on Santa Rose Island (they no longer do that mission).
Folks other than ByranB – this is an inside joke of sorts.
