Look Familiar? First Class Cabin of Qantas Airbus A380 Reminiscent of the U.S.S. Enterprise

From the outside, Qantas’ Airbus A360 looks very much like any other superjumbo jet, but the first class cabin has more than just extra leg room, sleeping quarters and pleather seats. It has what some may consider a Trekkie’s earthly dream.
The Daily Mail reports that the interior of the jet, designed by Marc Newson, looks like living quarters on Star Trek’s U.S.S. Enterprise complete LCD touchscreens, real leather seats, sheepskin-covered beds and houseplants:
“At first glance, this may look like the interior of the USS Enterprise, but it’s actually the first class cabin on a Qantas A380, complete with personal suites and centre socializing area,” writes TechEBlog this week.
The central area is provided for flyers to stretch their legs and sit down for a drink.
Each berth even has a dresser for storing clothes — naturally, pyjamas are provided.
There are just 14 berths in the whole cabin.
Flyers are provided with noise-cancelling headphones, and the touchscreen-controlled LCD panels in every berth give access to more than 1,000 different programmes.
TechEBlog has more on the plane:
For those who don’t already know, the Airbus A380 is basically “a double-deck, wide-body, four-engine jet airliner manufactured by the European corporation Airbus, a subsidiary of EADS. It is the world’s largest passenger airliner.”
Here’s a personal look at the inside the plan and all the amenities it offers:
Newsom was awarded the Good Design Award by The Chicago Athenaeum for his first class creation. Those in economy class also ride in comfortable style with the cabin also being awarded top honors with the 2009 Australian International Design Award of the Year.
According to the Qantas website, the planes are being introduced progressively with the latest flight schedule being Sydney to Hong Kong beginning Jan. 15. The Qantas planes currently operate between Los Angles and Sydney and Los Angles and Melbourne, among other international destinations.
The Airbus A380 was introduced to the commercial market in 2007. As of November 2011, there were 243 orders for the plane, 67 of which that have been completed. Earlier this month, the United Arab Emirates became the newest international airline to announce its operation of the A380, which will begin in 2012.

Posted on January 3, 2012 at 12:14pmUmmm… who said it was an “American Company”? No-one… they were just showing how high tech and uber cool this first class section looks like – its rediculous… my gosh you people are just full of hate for anything that Beck has to say about anything… is there really anything positive that you can say about anything?
I really have to say that I wonder how fullfilling the lives of people who live with all this hate for Conservatives, Beck, The Blaze, The Tea Party – or pretty much ANYTHING that they don’t agree with must be. How about actually learning how to love rather than live a life of hate?

Posted on January 3, 2012 at 7:36amEven through all pain that Boeing went through with the 787, I still think Boeing made the correct choice. Making something bigger is not innovative. The 787 is truly innovative. Think about it–The 787 is a plastic airplane!
Report Post »corbecket
Posted on January 4, 2012 at 12:15amComposite construction has become more common over the last 20 years, so the 787 is really not a sea change in construction at all. It’s merely more of the same.
Now what‘s really cool about the 787 is that it’s a very electric airplane. Way more than anything else out there right now. Most everything else uses hot bleed air from the engines an leading edges for deicing. Not so for the 787. It’s electric heat on the leading edges. Along with that comes really really big engine driven generators. Much bigger than the 767.
Weren’t we talking about the first class configuration of the A380 though? I’m contributing to “subject creap”, but it’s a lot closer to the subject than some of the political creeps that seem to have chimed in on what started as an aviation thread. Pity. It could have been a lot more fun.
Report Post »Athinkerinaseaoflibs
Posted on January 5, 2012 at 9:29am@Corbeckett: You are absolutely correct that Composite material has been used on Airplanes for the last 2 decades but this brings it in to the commerical airliner business. That’s my only point. The systems and other electronics are very neat as well. Additionally the creature comfort improvements are going to change the business as well The creature comformfs that I am most excited about are: Higher cabin pressure, more agressive air scrubbers and a higher remixure ratio of the cabin air. The bigger windows are cool too
