Lottery Winners Donate $1 Million To Veterans Charities

Last week three money managers stepped forward and claimed the $254 million dollar top prize ($103.5 million after taxes) from a recent Powerball lottery drawing. Some wondered if the men were claiming the prize to protect the identity of the real winners. They are the real deal.

The three co-workers, Greg Skidmore, Brandon Lacoff and Tim Davidson, are the only names associated with the Putnam Avenue Family Trust which was formed to handle the massive pool of money.

$254 Million Powerball winners give a million dollars to Veterans Charities

When they collected the usual over-sized check so often seen at Powerball photo-ops, the men announced that they would be donating a substantial portion of their windfall to charities.

Today we learned that the men are true to their promise as they have made large donations to groups helping veterans.

Five different charities each received donations in the amount of $200,000.

  • The Bob Woodruff Foundation
  • Building Homes for Heroes
  • Services for the Under Served
  • Operation First Response
  • Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund

The lucky winners have said on many occasions that they hope other lottery winners and the wealthy will learn from their example.

Perhaps they learned from the Illinois lottery program that specifically benefits Vets with their “Veteran’s Cash” instant scratch off tickets. The Illinois program has already donated over $9 million to Veterans charities.

So what that it was only $1 million. They gave which more than most people do. I bet each one of these charities was happy to get the money. How much would you give if you won the lottery?

Heh. They lost most of it to taxes. That’s bullcrap. It feels weird coming to the defense of the uber-rich, but man, they’re really getting royally screwed by our progressive tax system.

Wow one million dollars, really? I don‘t have a dog in this fight and I should probably keep my mouth shut but I can’t. Congratulations on winning the powerball. You didn’t have to give a single red cent and that would have been O.K. as well. But, one million when you one over one hundred million. That means you gave a grand 1%. It is great because it will help a lot of people. 10% would have been better and I would have given at least that because we are supposed to give 10% to God. Make sure you watch your back because the Government is trying to take over all charities and I guarantee you if you get to keep 10% it will surprise me.

Congratulations on winning the Powerball. It is none of my business if you want to donate a million dollars or ten dollars, but come on guys, don’t brag that you gave one million when you just cleared more than one hundred million. That is 1%. I give more than 1% to the red bell ringers at Walmart. Don’t brag about how good this was. Thanks for what you did give it will help a lot of people. At least the government didn’t make you give it away.
