Nebraska Senate Candidate Could Face Controversy With Ties to Progressive University

Bob Kerrey represented the people of Nebraska for sixteen years: six as governor and twelve as senator, before leaving office in 2000. Following a 12 year hiatus, the Democrat is running for Senate once again, but may some explaining to do with Nebraskans in regards to what he was doing during his time as president of The New School between 2001 and 2010.

The New School describes itself as a ”legendary progressive university“ that ”launches“ students into the real world as ”world citizens-individuals whose ideas and innovations forge new paths of progress in the arts, design, humanities, public policy, and the social sciences.” A new report from Nebraska Watchdog reveals just how The New School got its progressive reputation and the far left happenings on the campus where Kerrey served as president not too long ago.

“Founded in 1919 by progressives, the New School has long been regarded as an outpost for radical thought,” reads the report. “In the 1930s, intellectuals fleeing Nazi Germany found refuge within its classrooms.” Some interesting coursework from the 2012-2013 New School:

  • LREL 3101 — A transgender Jesus Christ? Students in “Queering & Decolonizing Theory” explore homosexuality and religion.
  • LCST 3046 — Child sexuality is discussed in “Queerness of Children.” This course includes examination of the “It Gets Better” campaign, a social movement encouraging youth to accept their homosexuality with optimism.
  • GHIS 5122 — Students in Social Research take this class, “Know your Red States,” to put conservative thought in a petri dish for close examination. There is no blue states course offered.
  • GSOC 5106 — Study how the youth culture deals with drugs, comedy and sex in an urban setting. Students can discuss their own sexual and drug-induced adventures in the course. “We intend to spend time examining in detail the world of sex, toxicmania and comedy with a primary interest on personal forays into these areas of the city using embodiment as a key theoretic strategy,” the description says.
Thats not even half of the loony credits Nebraska Watchdog was able to uncover.

Kerrey’s jettison from Nebraska to the Big Apple after leaving office, and subsequent return to run again, has been a problem as it is for the Medal of Honor recipient and 1992 Democratic presidential primary candidate.
In March, Crossroads GPS released a radio ad alleging Kerrey has “embarrassed” Nebraska for making a “back room deal” with Sen. Harry Reid and Democratic leadership before entering the race.
“Maybe that’s how you do it when you lived in New York for the last decade, like Bob Kerrey,” the narrator reads. “But it’s not the Nebraska way.”
The ad also features a soundbite from Kerrey saying that the longer he has lived in Greenwich Village, the further left he’s gone on health care.
“Back room deals and government run health care may be popular in New York City, but it’s not the Nebraska way,” a folksy voice repeats.
To boot, Kerrey’s tenure as president of the New School has not exactly been praised by students or faculty. Kerrey announced in May 2009 that he would step down at the end of his contract two years later. At the time Kerrey faced sit-ins staged by student protesters and in December 2008 the faculty voted no confidence in Kerrey, 74 to 2. The New York Times reports that the revolt against Kerrey was touched off by the dismissal of a popular provost, and faculty members furthere complained that Kerrey let fiscal considerations override academic ones while faulting him for high turnover at the university. Graduates heckled and student leaders condemned the 2006 commencement speaker chosen by Kerry, his friend Sen. John McCain.
Kerry earned $3 million from the institution during his final year as president.
According to a POLITICO report released Tuesday, Kerrey has forged a closer relationship with fellow Nebraskan Warren Buffett on the campaign trail:

The world’s most famous Omahan — and one of its richest men — is putting his political weight behind the Nebraska Democratic Senate candidate, making a rare foray into electoral politics at a time when he’s become deeply involved in the national debate over taxes and deficits.

Buffett plans to help pad Kerrey’s campaign war chest by throwing an Omaha fundraiser later this month for the Democratic candidate, officials say.

Buffett has donated $5000 to Kerrey’s 2012 campaign.

    I am a Nebraskan by choice not by birth. Bob Kerrey is one of Nebraska’s favored sons because he earned the Medal of Honor in Vietnam. He played that card when he was elected Governor. He will not be able to play that card successfully again. He was successful in distancing himself for Nebraskans. Nebraska is a red state. We are already ticked at Ben Nelson for making his deal on Obamacare.

    The most consistent comment I have heard about Kerrey is “Should have stayed back East.”

    Deb Fischer was a surprise win in the primaries, she has a lot of unknowns but was endorsed by Palin. She played her cards right to slip in under the two contenders who were busy hacking away at each other. I haven’t heard much noise from her camp since her thank you tour. She doesn‘t have a lot of political experience so I really hope she doesn’t underestimate Kerry and his money. Not too worried as she holds a double diget lead but all the same I wish she were more visible.

      Well if she is listening to Palin she will remain as invisible as possible. Because, as was the case for O’Donnell and Angle, if she professes the same nonsense she will be labeled as the kook she probably is. Palin, O’Donnell and Angle continue to represent an insult to any intelligent, educated and free spirited woman.

      Bob Kerry, though he is a Medal of Honor winner, he does not have what it takes to be the next Senator of Nebraska. Bravery under fire does not necessarily equal having what it takes to be in that position. We gave him his time in the spotlight as Governor, he should’ve been satisfied with that and faded gracefully out of the picture. He was doing that as a resident of Up State New York as theh Regent for a College there, note he didn’t attempt a position with the University of Lincoln. (Go Big Red!) Bob, most Nebraskans want you to stay in Up State New York, it suits you better.

    Claiming Jesus was transgender makes about as much sense as claiming he is 1/2 dog or some other animal. Just goes to show you that in this country, freedom of speech can lead one down some extremely bizarre alleys.

    I’ve been through this kind of unthink. From students at U.T. in Austin.
    Courses in “Pseudo Science”. Which was 30 years behind the actual redactions.
    Rock solid opinions that nothing can be done without the instruments and knowledge that they alone possess. Unthink. Without their diploma in walling off anything not conforming to their repetitiously taught thought patterns, they are wildly helpless against the seeming onslaught of mediocre everyday tried and true ideals and ideas. Unimaginative. Dull, though believing themselves to be the epitome of all they survey. Strange, even to an outsider like me.

    Is he morally qualified to speak about immaculate Jesus? The prediction of Jesus that Jerusalem would be destroyed happened in 40A.D., and true to his prediction mothers cried and lamented while watching the pain and agony of their children. And true to His prediction He will return in all majesty. Current events of the world, nuclear Iran, Putin’s move to revive the former Soviet Union, and the Arab Spring countries which are all anti-American, confirm the prediction in the Bible about the Armageddon. Who is this Kerrey to comment on Sovereign Lord Jesus?.

    Folks if you would vote for Bible, God fearing leaders even if you don’t believe the Bible your lives would be 10,000% better. It was the pass God fearing leaders that gave us our American heritage. Otherwise the nightmare continues by voting for vile evil wicked leaders like Obummer and Romney. R. Paul is the most moral candidate for Prez. period. If you don’t realize this you are morally perverse. Morally perverse voters destroy countries voting for vile, evil, and wicked leaders.

    Kerrey is an absolute creep. Okay, I can respect his being a Navy SEAL, but he really did fumble around when interviewed on TV years ago about the raid where he received the Medal of Honor for that action. He received the Bronze Star for other questionable actions on a different raid.
    Run his name through your search engine, then read several of the links about this guy. People and jobs tend to flow in and out of his life rather rapidly. Many of these people to include academics who worked with him are very outspoken against him. We just hear of it in the so called ‘news’ because he is a democrat. Who ever is running against him need only use Kerrey’s life story in ads. Oh yeah, he was involved with Swift Boat raids in Vietnam…remind you another Kerry?
