LSU Student Reportedly Plans to Burn American Flag on Campus

LSU Student Reportedly Plans to Burn American Flag on CampusA student at Louisiana State University (LSU) is planning on burning an American flag on campus today, the schools student government president said. And since he followed the proper university procedure to stage his protest, the event will not face any official pushback. But that doesn‘t mean the act won’t face patriotic counter-demonstrations. It will.

According to the student newspaper The Reveille, the pyro protest by communication studies graduate student Benjamin Haas is slated for 1 pm ET today.

That’s according to Cody Wells, student government president. “We’re going to respect his First Amendment right to burn our American flag,” he told the Reveille.

But Haas isn’t the only one who is planning a protest. Wells said he and others will also be holding their own “peaceful assembly in response to recent flag burnings.“ The reason for the plural ”burnings” comes after a student was arrested last week for cutting down and burning the American flag flying over the university’s war memorial.

Wells’s event will include the Pledge of Allegiance as well as the National Anthem. He tells the student paper tht he has a trumpet player lined up for the ceremony and also hopes to have cadets present.

Just as Haas will be exercising his right to burn the flag, Wells said, he and others will “exercise our own First Amendment rights”

      I got your back. there are a great many posts that have gone on that are ignorant – if you don’t say something then how can you tell your friends about this stuff – it’s important – stand up. I’m sorry for not doing it sooner – i just signed up yesterday – bad behavior isn‘t political it’s a value judgement. if your behaving badly – your values are bad!! nobody said you have to be sweetness and candy – god knows thats not me – but violence – racism – hate! these can’t be tollerated – and i hope people point it out when i do it. having said that – i’m not appologizing about the comment about the guy jumping off the building – that was just funny!

    Just one more brick being pulled out of the foundation!

    Atleast there are some who will stand and take notice and push back a little. They only burn the flag because they know it gets a reaction and mucho attention. We should take that off the table because in reality they have been burning the flag through hate speech directed against this country for years and demonstrations meant to stir anti American sentiments.

    This country has given so much to each of us. I really don’t know what these people are going to do when they have finally burnt it to the ground. Well….yea, I actually do know what they will do, they will then look for blood when they can’t enjoy the finer things of life as they currently are used to…someone must pay, someone must be responsible but they will not look in the mirror. It is them! Not us who are tunneling out the foundations of this once great country. The worse it gets the more there needs to be scape goats.

    Get ready people!

    These people may look like you and me but they are ravenous wolves.

    He has a Constitutional right to express himself even if most people find it offensive. That is one big thing that separates America from most other countries on Earth. People are free, though, to tell him what they think, defriend him and socially ostracize him. Offensive speech can have consequences.

      Agreed. I fly my flag in my backyard so every time I look out there I see our flag and get that swell of pride. I used to hang it in front but I can’t see it out there and sometimes I forget to bring it in at night. My son always makes sure if he is bringing in the flag in the evening it doesn’t touch the ground. It is never left out in the rain, or disrespected in any way, it really chaps my azz when these spoiled brats act like animals with our flag.

      As I’ve said many times before people would rather live in their own misery than seek their own happiness. If you don’t like it when the AMERICAN flag is burned change the amendment and don’t allow American flag burning. Then when some nit wit burns the flag he/she goes to a prison for political prisoners. Oh yes a prison just for them so they can’t pollute the minds of others. It could be built at the bottom of a mine pit and when it’s full it could be filled in with raw sewage and dirt. Then a new one built on top and when again it’s full…It could be called the S#*t pit and put a plaque there that tells who and why they’re planted there. Keep going til all the holes are filled with S#*t for brains people and 100s of years down the line when they find the bodies they can say that we truly loved AMERICA !!

      “Courage is both a duty of man and a gift of God. We should sharply reprove ourselves for all disheartening timidity. . . . We must be heroic, or we must perish.”

      …a duty. Think about that. It is our duty as citizens to exercise courage in the face of evil when it presents itself. Instead, what do we do…we try to delegate our INDIVIDUAL responsibility to someone else i.e. a politician, a lawyer, etc. OR we just compromise on principle and/or conviction. Compromising with evil only gets us in trouble. Just for reference. The Garden of Eden points the way on that. And look what it got man-kind. Enmity with GOD and a fallen world that will not end until the LORD comes again.

      What is glaringly obvious to me is that judgement is inevitable for our nation if for no other reason that abdicating our responsibilities as citizens living in a free nation. Our country was not given the GIFT of freedom, it was earned through the personal sacrifice of many. And to think we get to keep it without exercising ANY measure of courage WHEN THE OPPORTUNITY ARISES is incredibly wrong thinking. We have to tend the culture. God commanded it. As it has been said…”the only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.”. And that is what we have done..NOTHING.

      Where is the courageous spirit in our society today? I guess burning the American flag is the new definition. Better ger prepared. .

      Sometimes I wonder if God’s next flood will be like that movie “The Happening.” The flood of Noah’s day God eliminated the earth of all the living, and those were those that were clean by the sevens. I wonder if this next time, God comes but isn’t the Lord of Hosts, but that God forces himself into those whom are dead inside, and it burns them up not being able to handle the light. Then they do as in “The Happening.”

      I think the real issue we need to confront is what exactly the mindset is of somebody that feels compelled to burn the American flag? Is it because of hate and envy of what the flag “once” represented by progressives and their ilk (not unlike the hate and envy radical Muslims have towards Americans, meaning progressives and Muslims share common goal; destroying America as it once stood)?

      But, that aside, it is a free country; more for those that don’t subscribe to traditional American ideals.

      I have had heated debates with fellow soldiers, almost to the point of it becoming a fist fight.

      Here is my belief on this issue. The flag is a symbol of freedom. The freedom to be opposed to our government is part of that freedom. Otherwise, you‘d bread a totalitarian government that oppresses it’s people. Without this freedom to vocally, albeit vulgarly, oppose the government and its action, we would lose every other freedom we enjoy, eventually.

      So which comes first? The SYMBOL of freedom or the actual freedom for which it represents?

      Personally, I’d rather preserve the actual freedom. I oppose the government now, not just this administration but the overall concept of the current system of government. Should I not be allowed to voice my opposition in any means I deem necessary? Some would go as far as burning a flag while others would settle for demonstrations, rallies or petitions. If you give the government the ability to silence this form of expression against government, you open Pandora’s box. Is that what you want? For the sake of preserving your own sense of patriotism?

      Burn the flag. I’ll burn it myself, personally, if it means that American’s can regain TRUE freedom again. I’ll defend the actual FREEDOM rather than just the symbol of it. Symbols fade or gets destroyed. The actual freedom itself is what’s important.

      I didn’t sacrifice years of my life for piece of cloth. I did it, in theory at least, to protect the freedoms of my fellow cou

      @13TH IMAM Stop lumping Anarchist to that group, seriously, look up what a real Anarchist is. They are much closer to the concept of the right then to those groups you lumped them up with. You confuse real Anarchist with reactionary/transitional Anarchist. Those just want chaos in order to transition to a purely Socialist system. They are not real Anarchist but just want the concept of no government in order to have a void for their Socialist ideals to take over.

      I re-read the article and saw zero mention of theft. Please elaborate. I’m more than confident that these students purchased the flag they intend to burn.

      @JOHN 3:16 What would you call those that oppose burning the flag but take away your freedoms form you in the dead of the night? George W. “2 A person who believes in, or advocates, or promotes Anarchy , one who uses VIOLENT means to OVERTHROW the established order.”

      Using this definition, our founding fathers were Anarchist. They may not have believed in Anarchy, but they did use violence to overthrow the established order.

      Anarchy gets a bad rap from certain individuals that use it for attention or to create chaos. True anarchism is essentially an extreme version of libertarianism. Instead of severely limited government, there is no government. No government does not necessarily mean no rules or common law.

      Unless you just want to sensationalize the notion of Anarchism.

I don’t know what is burning when I hear fire, only that there is a fire going. Fire has no voice, it has no conscience. @WILDJOKER5 So as Americans, we do not have the right nor DUTY to act upon our political opposition?

      As the declaration states, it is not only our right but our DUTY. I do not agree with this person’s message but I believe he has the right to express his opposition to the government in this way.

      You say I have the right to voice my opposition but not the right to act upon it?I disagree with you entirely. Action is sometimes necessary. He isn’t burning YOUR flag. He isn’t burning YOUR house. He is demonstrating his freedom to express his opposition to our government. Of all rights we have, the ability to oppose our government is one of the most important rights we have.

      @TIGER52 Ahhh yes, let’s all cheer on big government and requirement for permits. If it had been a tea party organizer who was arrested for not having a permit, you’d be all outraged and pulling Eric Holder jokes, etc. Bunch of hypocrites. @THE_ZAZZY First of all, is my mother buried at a cemetery where I paid for the land that she is buried in? If so, you are infringing on my rights to my property. You’re act of symbolism is negated by my property rights. Also, it’s not a symbol of her, her actual physical bones are buried in that grave site. Freedom is not actually contained within the fibers of the flag. Your analogy does not work at all. You are trying to compare apples to manure.

      Less offensive means? This is the Blaze is it not? I hear complaints on here on an hourly basis about how PC is destroying this country.

      Answer me this, would you rather preserve the symbol of freedom or the actual freedom it represents? That is the true argument here. Is preserving the symbol of freedom (flag) worth destroying the actual freedom it’s suppose to represent?

      The analogy doesn’t really work. There’s the whole private property vs public, and I’m sure public defecation is illegal. I‘m sure he’d be unhappy about you doing it, but if it was legal and on public property then I think he‘d acknowledge he couldn’t stop you. Just like, I‘m assuming he doesn’t like that the student is burning the flag, but acknowledges that he can‘t or wouldn’t stop it. Also, one is a personal attack, while the other is political speech.

      @WILDJOKER5
      I really hope you’re joking about your definition of speech.

      @AMERICAN SOLDIER (SEPARATED)
      I really was happy to see someone else acknowledge that Anarchist don’t want to just get rid of the current power. They actively believe that the best system of government is a completely local and decentralized approach. Such that each person is in effect their own state, without any federal system. Personally, I don’t think this would work – particularly given the size of our nation, but it’s a legitimate political theory that people have the right to think.

      Also, I always thought what made America a great nation is that we incorporate anti-Americanism into American thought. We allow our citizens to legitimately think and believe our own destruction can be the right path for us. Of course, we have laws designed to prevent such a destruction (although some here would disagree).

      After seeing the outstanding opposition to this idiot, I hereby retract my previous post. My apologies, LSU.

      I say we go to the LSU campus and burn as much LSU crap as we can find.

      As we love to celebrate “diversity”, let’s react in the same way that the Muslim world does to such things. Assemble into a gang, find the nearest liberals and behead them. Surely that would be above reproach as there was no outrage when the same thing happened in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

      And that was only a book.

      @American Soldier (Separated),

      “Burn the flag. I’ll burn it myself, personally, if it means that American’s can regain TRUE freedom again. I’ll defend the actual FREEDOM rather than just the symbol of it. Symbols fade or gets destroyed. The actual freedom itself is what’s important.”

      Yes! Thank you.

      @JOHN 3:16 What would you call those that oppose burning the flag but take away your freedoms form you in the dead of the night? George W. Bush did more harms to our freedom then this college student can ever do burning a flag. Who’s more detrimental to our freedoms? A protested who burns the flag or the politician that takes away your actual freedoms?

      I can go along with a lot of what you say but are you so naive to think that Obama and his RED thugs have done anything to reverse the policies of GWB? Please.. I suppose like the rest of the **** on the left you now support all the Wars because Obama has usurped the position of President?

      Regardless Imagine the fuss the Marxist Media would be making if they were burning a Mexican flag??? lol

      He and his followers need to pay a visit to an ER. Be prepared for the COPs to defend the Flag Burner against the students. In some states the COPs put up barriers around Left Wing Flag Burners and keep everyone out so the Flags can be burned. Now of these Flag Burners need open air burning permits do they?

      The COPs will not allow anyone burn a Koran. Since Madison, Wisconsin we now know what side the Union Thug COPs are on don’t we. These COPs are only in it for the money and will defend Flag Burners. COPs joined in with the Union Thugs to create over $7.5 Million in property damage and vandalism to the State Building.

      Korans should be burned if the US Flag is burned. Those who burn our Flag will be responsible for all the people around the world that Moslems murder over the burning Koran.
