MA School Removes ‘God’ From Lee Greenwood‘s ’God Bless the U.S.A’ During Assembly

Is God under attack in Massachusetts? This is a question that some of the state’s residents may be asking after the Stall Brook Elementary School in Bellingham removed the word “God” from Lee Greenwood’s, “God Bless the U.S.A.” The song was reportedly changed to, “We love the U.S.A.” Then, following outrage, the school pulled the song all together from a fourth-grade assembly.

FOX News’ Todd Starnes has more:

After parents started complaining, school officials removed the song from the school assembly concert. The school’s principal released a statement to Fox 25 stating they hope to “maintain the focus on the original objective of sharing students’ knowledge of the U.S. States, and because of logistics, will not include any songs.”

Greenwood released a statement to Fox News condemning the school’s actions.

“The most important word in the whole piece of music is the word God, which is also in the title ‘God Bless The USA,” Greenwood said. “Maybe the school should have asked the parents their thoughts before changing the lyrics to the song. They could have even asked the writer of the song, which I of course, would have said you can’t change the lyrics at all or any part of the song.”

Greenwood went on to say that “we can’t take God out of the song, we can’t take God out of The Pledge of Allegiance, we can’t take God off of the American currency.” The songwriter made it more than clear that he opposed the change and would have never authorized it.

Parents, too, are reacting fervently. While the most boisterous voices seem to be outraged by the development, some parents have voiced agreement with the decision.

“I don’t have a problem with the song if somebody else does I guess it’s their business,” local resident Patrick Grudier said. “I mean, it’s on our currency (God).”

However, parent Matthew Cote disagrees.

“I don’t think there’s anything wrong with changing the song,” he said. “It’s a public school. If you want to have the word God in the song, go to a private school.”

This isn’t the only “God” battle brewing in the state. As The Blaze reported in February, an atheist couple in Acton, Massachusetts, are suing a local school district and claiming that the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance with the words “under God” discriminates against their children.

      I totally agree. It’s become OUT OF CONTROL, and we’ve allowed the spoiled little progressives to become this way. It has to stop. Unfortunately, like a spoiled child, it won’t stop until the rest of us stand up and put an end to it.

      I sang a few songs with Lee in the early 80′s at The Tropicana Hotel in Vegas right before he made it big so I followed his career from day one. The song that put him over the top, of course, was God Bless the USA. They can‘t take that away from him and they can’t take God away from any of us either. It’s obvious they are trying to tho.

    ok then if your taking god out of the schools take my tax payer dollars and give it back to me so I can home school or send my children to private school, that is only fair and watch all the public schools close because everyone else but ******** will do the same and you can fill there kids with garbage. I am so sick of the war against god, children use to pray in school and disipline kids. Look how are kids are now turning out. NYS is ranked 38 amoung 50 states and we pay more per student for education than any other state like 20k per student. I really wish I could move from this place I see everyday how much things have changed for the worst, kids are pushed up into grades when they can’t even do the work in the grade there in just to make parents happy and graduation rates increasethen when they try to go to college or get a job they fail, no more medals and cookies for all,

    Why do Atheist always use their kids as tools to push their dirty deeds? When Madalyn Murray O‘Hair fought to have prayer taken out of the schools in the early 60’s she used her son as a pawn. He later regretted it. And publicly denounced her.

      The 3 biggest problems in High Schools in the 60′s were running in the hallways – talking out of turn and chewing gum

      Today – the Good Teachers deserve Combat Pay – everyday they face Rape – Murder and Drugs.

      Thieu are always consensuses for one actions – God said, What you do to Israel – he would do to you.

    We Massachusetts voters are much more worldly and intellectually superior to the majority of the nation that we need to show leadership in an attempt to enlighten the rest of this nations masses.

    Why should WE Americans appease those whowant to cuse diruption? Those who do not wish peace and unity, who know that our country was and is based on God? I feel sorry for them, that they do not believe in the Holy Father, but don’t throw your hatred on others, instead, start your own HATE school, leave our children and Americas schools alone. And you wonder why many parents want to home school their children? This is one good reson why, we don’t want lies to be taught to our children or any history to be left out because this is YOUR desire. Shame on you all.

    This is ridiculous. But honesty, it should not come as any surprise–especially if you have read the new e-book ‘How the Marxists are using Political Correctness…’ (see Amazon)–that the Marxist have to do away with religion. As Mr. Adams says in his book it is part of the plan to turn our country into a ‘socialist heaven’. Seriously? If you have not read his book I urge you now to download it. Unlike Sean, Rush, Laura or the rest of the ‘Town Criers’, Wil Adams spells things out. Also, he provides steps we should be taking to reclaim our schools and more importantly, our Country. ‘If you want God, go to a Private school.” What is that. These are Public Schools, and as Mr. Adams says, if you want my money, then do thing the way I want them done. Otherwise there is a pink slip waiting. God Bless the U.S. A.!
