Mad Lithuanian Mayor Goes on Rampage, Crushes Mercedes with Tank to Send Parking Enforcement Message

Well, this is certainly one way to get your message across. After growing increasingly tired of complaints about illegally parked cars corroding the streets of Vinius, Lithuania, Mayor Arturas Zuokas reportedly commissioned an actual tank he used to crush a snazzy Mercedes Benz that was audaciously parked in a bike lane.
In the video (yes, there’s even a video of the rampage), an incensed Zuokas directs his ire at pretentious motorists who presumably drive (and park) around town in Rolls Royces, Mercedes and other luxury cars. “What should this city do about drivers who think they are above the law?” Zuokas asks. To which the mayor replies, “it seems a tank is the best solution.”
According to Metro.co.uk, the mayor’s stunt was arranged by staff members who have allegedly received over 100 complaints of parking violations.
“I wanted to send a message” Zuokas allegedly told the media. “I want to point out that if you have a car and more money it doesn’t mean that you can park it everywhere. Recently there’s been an increase in this type of parking violations, and it shows a lack of respect for others.”
I guess from now on, people will be mindful of getting on Zuokas’ bad side.

Posted on August 3, 2011 at 9:53amAfter having lived in the Boston area for over six years during graduate school, I can’t help but chuckle in approval at this. Not only does double-parking congest streets and create an anoyance, but it‘s really unsafe since it requires abrupt lane changes to navigate the streets and to get anywhere in a place where people don’t exactly let you change lanes without some level of aggressive driving. The police ticket every little insignificant parking violation that don’t really create an unsafe environment and yet turn a blind eye to the ubiquitous practice of double-parking as though it’s a God-given Bostonian right. It irked the hell out of me, and it definitely would have been cathartic to ride around and crush double-parked cars with an armored personnel carrier. Just sayin’… ;) :P :D XD

Posted on August 3, 2011 at 4:05pmBeing a family member of Jews who were murdered by the Nazis before and during WW2 I fail to see the relationship between the Holocaust and a city mayor making a statement to resp[ect the biking lanes of his city. He only did what most of us would like to do when someone parks illegally on the sidewalk or in a handicapped space.
One thing is for sure. Those who watched the incident or viewed the tape probably didn’t park in the biking lane, at least on the following day. Ha Sometimes extreme measures are required to get the attention of those who knowingly, willingly and repeatedly break the law.

But- Lithuanian Jews were very pro-communist, pro-USSR. When the USSR was subjugating, torturing, murdering Lithuanian Patriots, sometimes it was the Jews identifying the resisters. Then, when the Germans came through, sometimes the urge for revenge was strong. As I heard, “maybe I should have done more to protect them, but they were responsible for the murder of my brother.” Not that it makes it right, but it is a part that few people are aware of. The evil of fascism and socialism runs deep. And some historical perspectives are not always as they appear- or at least there often is more to the story.

Posted on August 3, 2011 at 8:38amYou can’t blame this person for instigating class warfare……blame Obama for brainwashing everyone and making it a class warfare issue. Here the rich already pay a higher proportion of taxes, that’s why we have a graduated tax scale. Business owners pay corporate taxes AND personal taxes, so they’re basically taxed twice. That’s why the corporate tax rates are a little lower. Ever think of that? Would you like to pay taxes twice?
Report Post »Unstable Phenomenon
Posted on August 3, 2011 at 10:09amOf course Zorro, I do respect your opinion, but what’s the point of this continued assault on the rich. We didn’t start this class warfare. Obama and his sheepeople did. To be honest i’m tired of it. Of course if this keeps up the rich will eventually leave this great Country, and take there jobs to a country who will not demonize them ( like china ). It’s none of my business how someone makes there money as long they are making it legally. Some of the wealthiest Americans are rotten S.O.B.‘s but that’s none of our business either. Wyatt you do make a good point.

Posted on August 3, 2011 at 9:15amLORIANN12@ You say that businesses pay twice. Not so my dear. Corporations are not people and they pay the corporate tax rate that is required. The Corporation has private or public sharedolders that either receive a salary that is taxed through the standard 1099 personal income tax. The Corporations only pays taxes after the expenses are deducted including the payroll of the owners. In many cases after all the deductions on the P&L statement there is no tax as the profit was zero, yet the “Owner still gets paid” . How is that double taxation. GE paid Zero tax on billions in earnings. I am afraid loriann you do not understand corporate tax law. A Dba or sole proprietor gets taxed after expenses. They are taxed on their bottom line. So in reality taxing anyone over 250K of net, at lets say 32% marginally impacts the business. I do believe low taxes increase commerce. Canada has the lowest Corporate tax rate of the G8 and they are thriving.

Posted on August 3, 2011 at 7:36amThis is not a report about doling out justice to the wealthy who believe they are above the law. It is not about the “little people” having their day. It is about a government will to do anything to maintain power and get its revenue. What, they don’t have tow trucks? It’s another example of class warfare. Yes, in a civilized society law must be enforced, but it is no longer civil when the government is destroying private property to make a point. I would not be too quick to applaud this mayor, who is probably going to be coming to a neighborhood nears yours in the not too distant future.

Report Post »Jack2011
Posted on August 3, 2011 at 7:40amThere is probably a lot of government corruption. The rich probably pay off the local government officials so they get their cars out without paying a dime in fines or towing fees.
What does this country manufacture that allows so many of its citizens to afford expensive vehicles? Nothing most of ever heard about like TVs or cars, etc. Is it drugs? Gambling? Are these car owners politicians or relatives of polititions skimming off tax payer dollars to afford these cars AND get away with parking anywhere they please.
