A strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.8 hit northeastern India on Sunday near the border with Nepal. GAUHATI, India (AP) — A strong earthquake shook northeastern India and Nepal on Sunday night, killing at least 16 people, damaging buildings and sending lawmakers in Nepal’s capital running into the streets.
The quake, with a preliminary magnitude of 6.9, struck at 6:10 p.m. local time and was felt across northern and eastern India, including in the capital of New Delhi. It triggered at least two aftershocks of magnitude 6.1 and 5.3, Indian seismology official R.S. Dattatreyan said. He warned more aftershocks were possible.
At least five people in India’s Sikkim state were killed and more than 50 were injured, according to the state’s top official, Chief Secretary Karma Gyatso. The north Indian state of West Bengal reported four deaths, and Bihar state reported two. Nepal’s government said five people died and dozens were hurt there, including two men and a child who were killed when a brick wall toppled outside the British Embassy in Nepal’s capital, Katmandu.
The full extent of damage was not immediately known because the region is sparsely populated with many people living in remote areas now cut off by mudslides triggered by the quake, state police Chief Jasbir Singh told The Associated Press.
TV stations reported buildings buckled, sidewalks cracked and two major roads collapsed in Sikkim’s state capital of Gangtok, 42 miles (68 kilometers) southeast of the quake’s epicenter near the border with Nepal. The Indo-Tibetan Border Police said two of its buildings had collapsed in Gangtok.
Small army columns fanned out across the city of some 50,000 overnight to search for anyone pinned under fallen debris.
“We have sounded a high alert. Police are on the streets in Gangtok and other major towns,” he said.
Electricity and some phone service was interrupted in the area.
Power lines snapped in the West Bengal cities of Darjeeling and Kalimpong, which “are now in total darkness,” state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, according to Press Trust of India.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh offered to send troops to help, and summoned the National Disaster Management Authority for an emergency meeting. The air force sent five planes to help with rescue efforts.
The region has been hit by major earthquakes in the past, including in 1950 and 1897.
In neighboring Nepal and Bangladesh, the quake Sunday night sent residents rushing out of their homes, offices and shopping centers.
In Katmandu, members of parliament who were debating the national budget ran out of the assembly hall into a parking area. They returned 15 minutes later and resumed their session.
The quake was also felt as far as the Indian capital, with New Delhi residents also rushing out of shaking buildings.

Posted on September 18, 2011 at 5:07pmIs Iran doing underground nuclear testing causing earthquakes? So far as we know, they do not have long range missile capability, but we do not know if they have dirty bombs or nuclear bombs to test. Would anyone tell us if nuclear testing was detected? Too many earthquakes happening. An earthquake gets stronger as it passes over the earth’s plates underground….an underground explosion is the strongest at the point of explosion and weakens as it spreads underground. We cannot trust Iran, and we cannot trust that we would be told if ‘anyone’ was doing underground testing.

Posted on September 18, 2011 at 4:52pmNasa is playing down the fact that Elenin is fast aproaching the earth which is causing the earthquakes & floods by the plate shifting. The elites have their bunkers prepared for the devastation to come. Us ordinary folks should also prepare too. Maybe Nasa is covering up with the threat of the satellite falling to earth. Scary times ahead.

Posted on September 18, 2011 at 11:42pmFound it interesting what Glenn said on the TV the other day about how the media feels that it is their duty to protect folks from knowing too much of things that might cause harm….or something to that effect. I find it very interesting that there does seem to be a ‘media blackout’ on elinin. Anytime in the past that there ever was a comet before, a big deal has been made about it’s arrival, where it was , and how to see it. Absolutely nothing on this one….except a few blurbs from NASA.

Posted on September 18, 2011 at 1:50pm9/20 to 9/30 will be some very interesting times.
9/20 UN votes on the Palestinian statehood.
9/21 UN day of worldwide Peace.
Possible news black out for three days regarding their vote.
BHO goes to Denver 9/27. Bunkers anyone
Of course now we hear a 5 to 6.5 ton Satellite to fall on Earth with only a 2 hour warning and its hit site is unknown.
ELENIN is due to transit between the earth and sun around 27 to 29th Sept. Solar flares, darkness for three days, earthquakes, then later we fly through its debris strewn tail in Oct. We will be trying to get on our feet then after the aforementioned things.
If the earth is in darkness from ELENIN then how will people respond on earth to this matter?
Will Israel atteck Iran? Syria? Damascus is called for destruction in the old testament. It will lay in a ruinous heap and be more more.

Posted on September 18, 2011 at 11:51pmYou forgot that the three days of darkness are 26,27,28. with the end of the three days falling on Rosh Hashanah…a day of remembrance for the creation of man by God. Regarding Rosh Hashana:
“The central observance of Rosh Hashanah is the sounding of the shofar, the ram’s horn. The shofar is sounded on both days of Rosh Hashanah (unless the first day of the holiday falls on Shabbat, in which case we only sound the shofar on the second day). The sounding of the shofar represents, among other things, the trumpet blast of a people’s coronation of their king. The cry of the shofar is also a call to repentance; for Rosh Hashanah is also the anniversary of man’s first sin and his repentance thereof, and serves as the first of the “Ten Days of Repentance” which will culminate in Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement “

Posted on September 18, 2011 at 1:40pmDutchsinse tracks quakes daily around the world on youtube…give him a try for your earthquake news. Anyways he reported that Japan had 6 5.0s and 6.0s on this past friday all around the same area. We are seeing a severe rise in quakes around the globe. Many things are coming together for those who follow bible prophecy can understand. The world is coming against Israel and want to destroy that tiny nation. The world will be shocked when they cannot dislodge her. Our own nation is being cut to pieces because we have sided with those who want Israel wiped away. Satan believes and has been trying for generations to cancel out Israel thus nullifying Gods promise to Israel. If he can do this then God is proved to be a liar and cannot keep his promises. God and Israel will prevail against their enemies and God will be exalted for saving them once again. Get ready because it is coming down soon. We are past the build up to this scene, we are living it right now and things are speeding up. This will not take decades to unfold, as I said we are seeing it unfold very quickly. The vote is next week. I expect War very soon and sudden destruction. I hope your all prepared like Glenn has been telling us for years now. God has used GB in a mighty way to prepare us for what is about to transpire.

Posted on September 18, 2011 at 3:49pm2776 – you have proof of this how? You can’t make a blanket statement like this without proof. I think you need to back it up with facts. Even if you are correct that the number of earthquakes haven’t increased, you can say that earthquakes have happened in places not normally know for earthquakes.
Virginia and Colorado come to my mind.

Posted on September 18, 2011 at 12:07pmSO many major EQs on the west side of the “Ring of Fire.” The slipping of the plates on that side must be building up a lot of pressure on our west coast. I think of the USGS Parkfield, CA map (http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqscanv/FaultMaps/Parkfield.html ) and the section north of LA that hasn’t slipped since 1857; a lot of built up strain there. The US will get its turn, it’s just a matter of time… at a point when our economy can least afford it.

Posted on September 18, 2011 at 11:09amI always wondered why US never Bombed Tokyo ?
On 9 August 1945, at 11:02 in the morning, the American plane “Bock’s Car” dropped an atomic bomb, powered by plutonium and nicknamed “Fat Man,” which exploded half a kilometer above the Urakami district of Nagasaki. It was the second atomic bomb to be deployed in Japan, after an uranium bomb had devastated Hiroshima three days earlier. As John Whittier Treat notes, apart from being “a redundant act,” the Nagasaki bomb was unique in that ground zero was the largest Roman Catholic cathedral in Japan and Nagasaki itself had the largest Catholic and Christian population in Japan.(1) In an instant, 73,000 people died, over 8000 of whom were Christian. Less than one percent of the Japanese population was Christian, yet they comprised over ten percent of the bomb’s victims. A larger issue for the victims, as well as for subsequent generations of Japanese and Christians, was why the West would target the most Christian city in Japan, and why would God allow His people to be so afflicted?

Comet Elenin (which US government calls a whimpy comet) is supposed to be in closest proximity to the earth this week at the same time that an old satellite is falling…should be an interesting week!!
And, of course, the UN will hold a vote on the two state solution for Israel and the Pals!!!!!!
NASA space junk experts have refined the forecast for the anticipated death plunge of a giant satellite, with the U.S. space agency now predicting the 6 1/2-ton climate probe will plummet to Earth around Sept. 23, a day earlier than previously reported. NASA has advised the public not to touch any debris that may reach the surface, should it be discovered. Instead, the space agency says that anyone who finds satellite debris should contact their local law enforcement agency.
