TOKYO (AP) — A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 has hit off the northeast Japan coast, prompting a tsunami warning.
The quake hit at 9:57 local time (0057 GMT) and a warning of a possible tsunami was issued for most of the northeastern coastline. The epicenter of the quake was in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Japan’s main island, Honshu.
Japan’s northeast coastline was devastasted by an earthquake and tsunami on March 11 that left nearly 23,000 dead or missing and touched off a nuclear crisis at a badly damaged facility in Fukushima.
The quake monitoring agency said the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kms (6 miles) off the coast and NHK public broadcasters report no immediate injuries or damage.

Posted on July 9, 2011 at 10:22pmMaybe it’s just me, but praying on the internet seems kind of tacky, and comes across as more of a pretentious show for one another than an actual appeal to God.

Posted on July 9, 2011 at 10:52pmSorry, it just comes across as cheap to me. Especially “Tweeting” to God, which I see all the time in relation to these stories. Cringeworthy. No wonder atheists laugh at Christians.
I’ll just word it another way: You wouldn’t propose to my girlfriend over Twitter or a political website. Why bare your relationship with God there?
Like I said, maybe it’s just me. But what bothers me far more than that is WHY people do it, not how or where. Just read some of these comments to see what I mean. It’s a popularity contest, and it’s embarrassing. Do it in private instead of trivializing your religion for recognition.
But anyway:

Posted on July 10, 2011 at 12:29am@N37bug It really bothers you that people express their believe in God, doesn’t it? Why? Do you feel left out? Who says you can’t pray on the internet? We hear enough trash, porno and vulgarity. What makes you feel so uncomfortable? Is it that people USE their RIGHTS of ‘freedom of religion and expression’.?
Report Post »poverty.sucks
Posted on July 10, 2011 at 12:30amTyping our expressions is something new, it’s communication, God commanded us to speak directly to Him, fellowship with believers, and spread the Gospel. Then internet has evolved so that we’re able to complete those tasks in one single entry.
We’ve always had the church to meet at, sometimes other conversations wern’t appropriate there. There was the Mill, evolved into the Rumor Mill, if seen there while not trading then you were labled. Now we have the internet where we can communicate without leaving home.
If you were to tweet a proposal, your girl friend may not respond, God is always listening.
And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

Report Post »have you considered how self-involved your comment was? You claim to not want to be disrespectful, but honestly, sarcasm is the epitome of disrespect. Then you claim to want to make some grand point. But what really sticks out is your conclusion that you are sure you will receive “hate” despite your explanation. Oh, what a martyr you are. And it is all about YOU, isn’t it? It’s not about the people of Japan. No, it’s about how others here will not understand your high mindedness in critiquing their calls to prayer for a people suffering from earthquakes.

Report Post »You must be a young person, one day you will realize the importance of religion relating to the health of the mind, the society, and the country.
I am not religious but i am trying to learn from christians, for without religion we are all just animals. Society falls apart, country fails, because there are more individuals actively practicing their innate born 7 sins. Look what has happened to America when we walked away from the guiding principles of religions.

Posted on July 9, 2011 at 10:58pmI love the LORD, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications. Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call upon Him as long as I live. The sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of hell gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow. Then called I upon the name of the LORD; O LORD, I beseech thee, deliver my soul. Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful. The LORD preserveth the simple: I was brought low, and he helped me. Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the LORD hath dealt bountifully with thee. For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, my feet from falling. I will walk before the LORD in the land of the living.

Posted on July 9, 2011 at 10:51pmStirring up the hearts of the non-believers to remember Him (or know Him) through disasters is one way the Lord uses nature to His advantage, same thing happening here in the states. People who fail to heed God’s word are still loved by Him and He will visit them with natural disasters here in this mortal life that they may rest with Him in an eternal life.
