Maintenance Worker Killed by Golf Tee Shot at Florida Course

SANFORD, Fla. (AP) -  A maintenance worker at a central Florida country club is dead after being struck by a golfer’s tee shot.

Police say Maurice Hayden was pulling weeds near a tree at the Mayfair Country Club in Sanford on Wednesday when he was struck in the temple about 30 yards away.

The 42-year-old man was taken to Central Florida Regional Hospital. Police say he died Thursday after being removed from life support.

Police say the shot was an accident and that the golfer will not face charges.

Sad situation. Why was he weeding on a playing course? Aren’t there safety rules for employees?
No one should ever be forward of the tee. Friend of mine learned that too late when her husband went
out with friends, took his shot, and went forward of the tee to wait. He also was hit in the temple.
He survived, but even with extensive therapy, most of his reasoning skills were lost.

Don’t worry a government panel is convening now. They will announce new guidelines for safety on the golf course. All golfers and groundskeepers will have to wear helmets while on the course. But first they are ordering all golf courses to close until the panel can get back with the recommendations , all in the name of safety. Isn’t Obamaville wonderful?

As some of them are bad enough that they shouldn’t be allowed to play golf. I used to live beside a golf course. Every time they hit a ball and it landed on my property, I would cut the ball in half and throw it back out on the course. Sure made the golfers angry. One day when I didn’t have anything to do, I cut up a about 300 golf balls and threw them back out on the course. Then when the golfers came down from the tee, they would have to hunt for their balls.

At approximately 90 mph swing speed, the ball travels approximately 40 yards in one (1) second. If the worker was 30 yards away, the player wouldn’t have had time to even see where the ball was going before it struck the worker. I’m sorry for the worker who died, and his family, but the correct thing would have been for the worker to have cleared the way and for the player to have waited until he was clear.

If you take a persons‘ ball who hasn’t shown you the curtesy of warning you of his/her errant shot then you are also guilty of being a ******** as well as a thief. You probably should consider taking up a different sport as your obvious inappropriate displays of bad judgement and ill temper make you unsuited for a game for HONEST Ladies or Gentlemen.
