‘Major Announcement’: GOP Rep. Thaddeus McCotter to Launch Bid for Presidency

Major Announcement: GOP Rep. Thaddeus McCotter to Launch Bid for Presidency

DETROIT (AP) — A person familiar with the plans of Michigan Rep. Thaddeus McCotter says the Republican congressman will make a “major announcement” Saturday about whether he will run for president in next year’s election.

McCotter‘s office says he’ll be the keynote speaker Saturday at a festival in Whitmore Lake.

A person in contact with the Livonia congressman told The Associated Press on Thursday that McCotter will address whether he’ll seek the Republican presidential nomination. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the person isn‘t authorized to discuss McCotter’s plans.

The Associated Press left a message seeking comment Thursday evening from a spokeswoman for McCotter, Michaela Hunley.

McCotter told WJR-AM in Detroit on May 25 that he was seriously considering a presidential run.

USA Today:

Rep. Thaddeus McCotter says “your American Dream is endangered.” That’s why the Michigan Republican is running for president, according to his new campaign website that’s up and running today.

Our colleague Jackie Kucinich last night reported that McCotter, a fifth-term congressman who represents Detroit suburbs in Wayne County, will officially kick off his White House campaign tomorrow.

Today, he’s giving radio interviews and will reportedly turn in his official paperwork to run for president. McCotter was prodded into thinking about a White House bid by Fox News host Greg Gutfeld, according to the Detroit News.

Politico:

Thaddeus McCotter will file paperwork on Friday to become the eighth Republican candidate for president, a McCotter adviser told POLITICO.

McCotter spent four days in Iowa this week and came away “feeling positive” about his reception, the adviser said. His presidential campaign website will go live around noon tomorrow, allowing the four-term Michigan congressman to kick off his long-shot bid on the first day of the new fundraising quarter.

His presidential committee, dubbed McCotter 2012, will start out with funds in the six figures, according to the source. The campaign will not have to file a full fundraising report until the fall. McCotter had nearly half a million dollars in his House campaign account at the end of March

I’ll definitely vote for him if he makes Andy Levy his Secretary of Kitties and Bill his White House Doorman. If he isn’t the head liner these choices sound really good Perry/McCotter, Cain/McCotter, Bachmann/McCotter.

Just as Huntsman’s campaign was over before his announcement speech was, Thaddeus’ campaign will be over before his announcement speech begins. I don’t doubt his positions or his partriotism but, some people just don‘t have ’it’. Then again, Ner-O didn’t, either (And, still doesn’t, for that matter).

OK, This is a new name for many… but there is plenty of time to discover what he stands for. Its early in the campaign and the more vital candidates there are to chose from the better our chances are of finding that one that most closly fits our individual images of the best. Everything will be sorted out during the primarys (and caucuses)

Need Greg Gutfeld to weigh in on this guy – McCotter is a regular on Red-Eye.
Also, Dennis Miller – McCotter is a regular on Miller’s show, too.

Having so very little name-recognition is his biggest obstacle, out of the gate, I’d say.

You’re right. I know him from Redeye. Love him! He’s bright, funny, articulate, and direct. I’ll look at all sides, but, if Thad McCotter can get interviewed by all the big talkers, I think people will like him. That’s a big IF, but don’t count him out! He’s certainly more interesting than most and he speaks well!

I know 1 thing: You are not a conservative from Texas or you wouldn’t say that about Perry. He is a globalist shill and a half-wit. All the things the left said about George W. Bush are actually TRUE about Perry. He will get the Bush treatment from the media and he’ll deserve it. Even if he could win he would sell out the conservatives in a heartbeat. He has already done it at home.

Maybe next week on 7/7 he’ll end his media-blackout and say something? He likes the number 7 for some reason.

From what I hear he‘s got good name recognition but he isn’t allowed to run due to his being born in another country. Plus there are rumors of a sex scandal with Mary Magdalene…Also, his age might be a problem. No Multi-Milleniumist has ever received his party’s nomination before. What is wrong with you? It is truly amazing that you are automatically dismissing him because his name isn’t a household name. With all due respect you sound like a last liberal progressive. Do your homework… this guy IS the real deal.

Let me understand this correctly, you are dismissing him because you do not know who he is …. do I have that correct?

Your amazing, great way to embarrass yourself and show how ignorant you are and uninformed, it is truly amazing that you are automatically dismissing him because his name isn’t a household name. With all due respect you sound like a last liberal progressive. Do your homework… this guy IS the real deal

      This guy has no chance.

The brilliant Republican strategists will push for the nomination of some youthful, silver tongued artist who is both articulate and brilliant, like John McCain or Bob Dole.

Then they’ll wonder why they lost.

He appears on Red Eye every now and then. Plays in a rock band and is probably the most articulate person I’ve ever heard speak.

This guy can explain an issue so clearly, so rationally, it’s a pleasure to listen to him. He also has a great, dry, biting wit. I’ve seen him on Redeye. The DVR has brought Redeye and Craig Ferguson to me, and I am most grateful.
