Male Nurse Claims He Was Fired for Treating Muslim Women | John Benitez Jr.A male nurse in Dearborn, Michigan, has launched a sexual discrimination lawsuit against the city, claiming that he was fired for treating conservative, Muslim women.

John Benitez Jr., 63, is suing to be reinstated and to secure unspecified damages following his dismissal. He worked at a taxpayer-funded clinic in Dearborn, where, prior to his departure, he claims he was ordered not to treat conservative, Muslim women.

According to the lawsuit, which was filed in U.S. District Court, a female supervisor had specifically commanded him to avoid treating females wearing head scarves. Benitez was allegedly told that the clinic’s male Muslim clients didn’t want male medical personnel assisting female patients, according to The Detroit News. Many Muslims apparently prefer to be treated by individuals who are of the same gender.

The nurse claims that he complied, but that in November 2010, a doctor ordered him to treat Muslim women just as he would any other patient. Benitez’s legal challenge says that he followed orders and was fired just one month later.

The nurse’s lawyer, Deborah Gordon, says that taxpayer-funded entities shouldn‘t necessarily be complying with religious beliefs that impede an individual’s abilities to perform his or her work.

“When you get to the point that taxpayer-funded entities are having to comply with personal religious beliefs rather than letting people do their job you’re going down a road that does not end in a good place,” Gordon said. “If people don’t want to be treated, they can go find their own practitioner.”

The clinic in question closed on June 30 as the result of budget cuts and thus far the city has declined comment.

      I held my mother’s hand many times in the hospital while she was treated and poked with needles and suchlike. She was attended by more than one male nurse…they were both professional and compassionate. I’m female and would never object to a male nurse treating me.

    If you are not a muslim, you are, by Islamic definition, an infidel. The Quran is very CLEAR what they do with those who refuse to convert. Don‘t be uneducated and pretend takeover isn’t happening in America just because it isn’t in your neck of the woods (yet). Sharia takeover is happening in our courts, our schools and our communities at an alarming pace. (Rev. 13:8; 13:15)

      Religion is the root of evil! Could you imagen a world where there was no religion? Where people treated stories as stories and not as justification for killing their neighbor. Imagen a world where people based their lives on one rule and one rule only, this is why they call it the golden rule. I believe there is a god. As for his name… Well he/she has never come down and wasted his/her time to tell me. So I’m not gonna argue over what people say it is. Here in America it is our fundamental responsiblity to tollerate other peoples believes only to the point until it becomes oppressive. If it is your religion that says you cannot be touched by someone that is not of your sex or religion its simple. DONT go to a tax payed clinic and expect to have it your way! The building and the people are there to do it the tax payers way! Find an Islamic clinic and get treatment there. The tax payer clinic is there for people who are indifferent about the person believes that are helping them. Should it be that you should be grateful someone is helping you and your not being left on the streets to suffer?

      Religion is mentioned twice in the US Constitution, first to prohibit religious tests for office and second the First Amendment. The Founders founded a secular nation base on the laws of men. They were men of the Enlightened era, they trusted logic and reason, not myths and fairytales. The US from its founding has been a secular nation.

      You mean the founding fathers that opened up meetings with a prayer? Those founding fathers. they were smart to not argue in a vehement way about whether a child should or should not (anabaptist) be baptized. But by & large they were believers. Many were masons & the Masons believe in God. They just don’t get all lawyer like on the particulars. They did not want a federal/national church established like in England, but they believed religion & politics mixed. They have to. A religion is a belief system & your beliefs influence your vote.

      They just didn’t tell each other how to believe thru the use of coercive force. But they did pray in public & while conducting the business of the day. With so many competing denominations the prayers are more generic, but they are prayers still. And it is mixing religion & politics. Have a nice day!

Contrary to Liberal’s wishful thinking our Founding Fathers were quite supportive of God and Prayer. The even established prayer in the schools. The only thing they were against was the government establishing a state religion where everyone, even you, would have to comply.

    When you walk through the door at a taxpayer provided clinic, you are a patient seeking treatment. No more, no less. When the woman saw it was a male nurse, she should have left if it was that big a deal. She should have found a “muslims only” clinic and PAID for it herself.

    The important thing is that this dysfunctional clinic was shut down and taxpayer funds are no longer being wasted there. Why was the government competing with private enterprise in the first place? Healthcare is NOT a right, but if it was, the government would be restricted from interfering in that right, the government would have to be 100% out of healthcare.

    Let’s see we took a cross down on a church in Afghanistan because of separation of religion and government BUT we can‘t treat a Muslim woman by a male nurse because it’s against her RELIGION!?!       They could not completely assimilate & remain Muslim. That would not be fair to ask.

      Problem is that the Muslims want us to 100% assimilate to their way of life immediately. They won’t assimilate 20%, 50% or 75% to keep the peace, to allow women of other beliefs to move freely without harassment, etc, etc, etc.

      Just because you can find a few moderate Muslims, that is not how the majority act or believe. While a numerical minority they will act civil, until they have greater numbers.

    As a male nurse of 40 years, I believe he would have been fired if he’d refused to treat “conservative muslim women” as well. There’s no way to win in a PC world. Just how did the clinic determine the muslim women were conservative anyway? Let the muslims build and run their own clinics, then everyone would be “happy.” OMG=obama must go…

      Liberals believe in case law. It is one of their religious sacraments. They consider an argument won when they can cite case law supporting their position.

      In that case slavery should be constitutional because there was 50 years of case law supporting slavery.
      (But we know slavery is wrong).

      Basically what liberals are saying is that if a bad decision gets codified, we have to keep going with it.

    Government funded clinic? As in these “conservative muslim women” were on welfare? I wonder if they were all “relatives” of the same man? I read somewhere that muslims immigrate to America with one person listed as wife and 3-4 others listed as female relative dependents so that they can all get welfare and they can have their 4 wives. Like it said in the article, you want preferential treatment, go to your won doctor and don’t use government services. Here’s something novel….PAY FOR IT YOURSELF.
