Man Allegedly Commits Murder-Suicide in Front of TX Church’s Altar

A Helotes, Texas, Catholic church is the center of investigations after an apparent murder-suicide took place inside on Wednesday. Currently, police are attempting to put details together surrounding how two bodies ended up in front of the church’s altar.

The current theory is that Manuel Rodriguez, 51, shot and killed Zeferina Castillo, 54, before taking his own life. The bodies were discovered inside Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church — a shock to congregants and the community, alike. No one is quite sure why the couple showed up at the church in the first place, considering that neither was a parishioner.

While motivation has not been determined, authorities believe that Rodriguez shot Castillo numerous times in her upper torso, then turned the gun on himself. Anthony Burgess, a spokesperson for the police, says the two “were involved — apparently for a while.”

MySanAntonio.com has more:

Witnesses at the church said the pair were well dressed and composed when they walked in together, apparently after arriving in separate vehicles, Burgess said.

“There was no push, no grab, no tussle. It looked like they were just walking into church,” he said. “There was nothing out of the ordinary.”

Motion-sensitive CCTV cameras captured the couple walking toward the altar, but when they stopped moving, the recording ceased as well. Around 3:00 p.m. local time, gunshots were heard and the two were later found between a baptismal font and the altar; the pistol Rodriguez purportedly used was between the bodies.

Castillo, a local businesswoman, has been heralded by those she left behind as kind and giving. The owner of Castillo Mission Funeral Home — a business she helped her husband start before his death in 2007 — Castillo was said to be helpful to the families her business served.

“Her direction to us was that we utilize our hearts to provide dignified services for our families, and that’s all she asked of us,” said Art Gandar, a manager at the funeral home.

Hallelujah! Praise the lord for this blessing! After all, god saw it coming so he must have known all about it from before he even formed the universe and still didn’t do anything about it. It must all be part of his plan. Thanks be to Jesus!

Oh wait, somewhere babies and small furry defenseless animals are dying in miserable painful ways all to the glory of god. Hallelujah! Praise the lord. Shall I thank Jesus now or wait until he destroys the earth and everything in it so I can thank him for all eternity?

We should all get on our knees every time we hear of these blessings because it’s all part of his grand scheme.

You know if God were to intervene like some people think He should then that means our free will is out the window. Bad things happen not because God is to blame but because man is. Man has free will and often times abuses it by doing the wrong thing. It doesn’t mean God is not there. Take 9/11 for instance, could God have stopped the terrorists? Sure but He would have intervened with man’s free will. But out of that tragedy we hear and read of so many brave people who sacrificed their lives to save others, of so many people the days after who volunteered their services or gave blood, of our country actually laying aside our differences just for a short time and unify as one. God was in the same place when Jesus was beaten, bruised, spit upon and hung to suffer and die on a cross, as He was when the 1st century Christians were beaten and bruised and killed under the Roman empire, as He was when so many people lost their lives on 9/11. He was and is there to comfort all who come to Him. In this tragic case it is not God who is to blame but the man who used His free will to commit this vile act. Christians can only hope and pray that the families will find comfort.

Really, you would have Him interfere in our every move? You want us to have NO CHOICE in God’s world to do good or evil and obtain the reward or the blame for that? What kind of world would YOU have built I wonder? I would not wish to join you in it.

God loves life not death…just because all things are preordained does not mean things occurred the way God wanted them…we have free will as human beings and are responsible for our own individual actions whether glory is achieved or not…before you judge our faith maybe you would be better off attempting to objectify…

Oh, gee, look, some dumba$$ Atheist has nothing better to do than to mock others beliefs! Sure wish I had the kind of faith he has to BELIEVE that the Universe “created itself” out of nothing, and through a series of statistically IMPOSSIBLE “coincidences” put intelligent life on Earth. Ya can’t accept the concept that someone (GOD) was responsible for it all, but you’re willing to put your FAITH in something even less likely than a tornado passing over a junkyard and forming a functional 747 airliner. Yeah, you’re the SANE one in the room, pal. Keep on BELIEVING that one too.
As for God knowing it was going to happen, or “allowing” other tragedies to occur, you and I will never understand the “why” question in relation to them. Ever stop and think for a second that there are just some things that defy our understanding? Nahhhhhh. You’re way too smart for that. I’m sure your degree is in something useful like philosophy, which makes you an expert in all things others can’t understand.

Why do you assume it is more “illegal Mexican crime”? Is it because they have Hispanic names? So is every Hispanic illegal? You should read the article before you speak, they owned a local funeral home, a business that is regulated by the state. I really doubt that they were illegals.

The simple answer is that they don’t really know there is a heaven. And then they twist it into an earthly understanding believing (and familiar spirits cement in the belief) that they will be drinking Tea with relatives in Heaven. And yet Christians are not really Christians because Jesus said that in Heaven people are like the Angels and they neither marry or anything else earthly. Because God is the Lord of the living, and that’s why God only knows the hearts of men.

The simple answer is because we are selfish and want them to stay with us. Ever cried when you were a kid and had to leave behind a loved one in another state after a vacation, or they came and visited you and had to leave? You know it is going to be a long time before you see them again, so you cry because you will miss them and want them to stay. Mourning doesn’t mean there is no Heaven.
