Man Arrested After Posting 195 MPH Speeding Video

Big brother or big idiot? That’s the question after a man was arrested for posting two YouTube videos showing him speeding down an Oklahoma freeway at 160 and 195 mph respectively. Police eventually tracked him down and got him to admit to the excessive speeds.

30-year-old Albert “Cody” Replogle was apparently trying to use the videos to entice buyers into purchasing his modified 1999 Corvette. The website Gawker posted a screen shot showing the car for sale and a subsequent description boasting about his speeding:

Man Arrested After Posting 195 MPH Speeding VideoHere are two more videos of in the car that I took today.
This one is getting onto the highway and climbing to about 160.   [dead video link]
This one is getting onto the turnpike and climing over 195+ mph.  I was in 5th gear and still had some gear left.  It still has 6th gear also.  It was a constant acceleration all the way as you can see.  This car will easily go well over 200 mph if you are crazy enough and have the stomach for it.   [dead video link]

The videos have since been removed from YouTube and Replogle’s channel. But others have copied and re-posted them so that the world can enjoy a queasy feeling in its stomach whenever it wants. Here’s the one Replogle claims shows the car topping out at 195 mph:

For those who know cars, you can hear the turbo engine sucking a ridiculous amount of air as he shifts.

If we are going to start using YouTube as the Emphatic truth about everything, then I want some bees so my laptop can fly…

The fact is people post exaggerations, lies, and other non-sense, and a you tube video, in and of itself SHOULD NOT be the basis of any criminal charge, Supporting evidence yes in some cases, the sole basis of a charge NO FIN WAY.

The views on here seem to suggest if I post a video that shows me covered in what appears to be blood and I claim to have just killed my mother then I should be arrested and convicted of murder even if my mother is found alive and well, but since I confessed to a crime on a youtube post then I must be guilty

Would free speeding apply to someone while DUI, mad, showing off, or just idiot. The racetrack is where you can prove your stuff and still kill someone or yourself. America has not been known to make cars that go fast for long distance such as the autobahn. The German car always cost more because it was MADE for the autobahn.

You have to buy special tires to go over 100 mph for a sustained period. (Your factory tires are usually rated at less than 100mph for less than an hour) You have to have special made pistons, connecting rods, cranks, cams, gears, cooling, advanced fuel systems and oil flow, to name a few items to go fast without something coming through the block (They still do). This type of engine would cost 100,000 dollars. Then we get into the brakes, transmission, clutch, drive shaft, rear gears, suspension and structure.

The quarter mile is fun and the oval is more fun but the cost is prohibitive. In the fifties, it was great as it was mostly just stock car against stock car on the hometown drag strip and it kept racing off the street for the most part…The most harm you would do is bend a push-rod for exceeding 4800rpm missing a shift.

We should not make vehicles that go 10mph above the max speed limit and that while passing only. If we made a German quality car, we would need a trillion dollar special and limited accessed autobahn of our own. None of our cars is made to maintain an average of 150mph much less 70mph for several hours.

Depends on if they can prove that
1> The Video is not Doctored or Fake
2> If they can get it pass a 5th amendment Challenge, Which since it was posted for Public View they more than likly can, but you never know and it would be worth a shot.
3> If they can prove the Car was going 195.. From the Video I very much doubt it was 195, Over the SpeedLimit yes, but I have been in cars going in excess of 150 and that does not look like that car was going over 150.

If it was me I would fight the ticket and make the government prove I was going 195, I would state that I was just tring to impress people with the video and used lighting and other tricks to make the car seem to be going faster than it really was

Not Guilty, as the government has no other proof

Prius owner here. Actually my wife drives it, I drive a 4 banger Toyota Tacoma. Both cars comfortably cruise well over 10MPH over the fastest posted speeds you will find in the US. That is more than I will ever drive it anyway. My pickup gets around 28MPG if I keep my foot out of it. I can jump out on the highway and get it up to speed quick enough from a standing stop. My wife gets 50MPG in hers and saving the world has nothing to do with anything. We like to be able to go on trips and not have to pay a small fortune in gas for a car that gets 12MPG.

The vette is cool. I have always liked cars and have owned my share of muscle cars and other sports cars. I currently have a ‘70 standard Beetle with a 2276, dual 40′s that puts out 160HP on the dyno, gets 25MPG when driven sane, and will still blow the doors off 98% of the cars it encounters. Top end is irrelevant for a street car, you are not going to get it much over 120 unless you are in the middle of BFE. Nothing wrong with high performance, but it sounds like some people need to grow up. I want something that makes sense as a daily driver then I can play with my bug on the weekends.

Trolltrainer, here’s what you should do. Take the Prius and trade it in on a new Mustang or Camaro V6 – both get 30MPG and have 300+ hp. You wife will never let you drive it since they are so much more fun than the cheese-wedge Prius. You’ll have to take the old VW (from the people who gave the world national socialism) and trade it in on a Challenger RT. Then you will truly understand the muscle car.

If I wanted a mustang, camaro, or challenger (or vette for that matter) I would buy one. :-)

Big difference between 30MPG and 50MPG. The Prius is a good car, we have enjoyed owning it. It is an ‘08 that now has 75,000 on it and has not given us a single problem. Very well put together. It is also a comfortable cruising car that eats the highway up on long trips. I dislike the visibility in it, but I am 6′4″ and used to a pickup. My wife loves it and we are considering trading it up on a new one some time soon.

I know you just will not get it. You are either young or stupid…or both…I have owned more 60′s muscle cars than I can remember, along with a handful of British, German, and Italian cars. I truly appreciate your wanting to give me a lesson on what a muscle car is, but I can assure you that I have driven more than a few. I have also driven the new mustang and new camaro, both in V8 trim. My best friend owns a 2008 srt8 with a hemi. I know you will not be able to understand it, but we are quite happy with what we own. As I said, if we were not then we would buy what we wanted.

      NIC,

I claimed that my bug could have kept up with what I saw in that video. To put it in perspective, I have a time slip from speed world dragway in Orlando where I ran a 12.45 @ 105 on street tires and 92 octane. I have never ran the car topped out but have got it just over 130MPH. That is downright scary in a bug and the car is designed for low end. Red light to red light it will beat most anything out there, including new Mustangs, Camaros, and Challengers. Once it hits 80-90MPH it starts losing grunt. What do you expect, it is a flat 4…I never claimed it was the fastest car on the road, and I sure never claimed I could beat the Vette in this article. But he would not lose me either. Not unless he could drive it over 120MPH for an extended time. That is not happening on the street.

This is not a ******* contest and I do not need to massage my e-dick…If I wanted a 1000HP Vette then I would build one. I enjoy racing in my class, there is something about air cooled VWs that you have to experience to get. I also do not drive my bug on the streets to any great extent, 2276 is pushing the upper limits of what you can do with the VW case and it is not as reliable as lower CC engines. It is also expensive to rebuild. It is a toy, a car I drive on Sundays, show at the VW shows, and race at the strip every now and then. That was my whole point in the first place, the idiot I was first responding to said that Prius owners should be embarrassed. Why? Because we are mature enough to want a good reliable daily driver that gets the best MPG we can? Because we realize that the posted speed limit is 55MPH on most roads, 70MPH on the interstate? Because even if we are automotive enthusiasts we may choose to sink our money into different niches in the sport? Hey, the Vette is nice…And if this in really is what it is advertised to be then there is no disputing it is a BA car…Did it hit 195 in that video? I seriously doubt it went much over 120…You can mark its speed by the van it passed as he was just getting into the run, and he did not blow by it like he was doing 100 over what it was. If it was doing 80…which is generous, then he could not have been doing over 100 at that point. Could I be wrong? Sure…But I know what 120 looks like…

He DID take it to 195! I’m a geek, and using the videos geographic landmarks found the section of highway where this occurred. Then I did the calculations… Here’s the Skinny.

This was filmed on the John Kilpactrick Turnpike, West bound. There are 2 overpasses that he goes under just after entering the highway. These are Highland Park Blvd and N Mary Ave respectively. The overpasses are 2,596 ft apart and he covers that distance in 10.18 seconds. That makes his AVERAGE speed over this ~1/2 mile to be 255 FPS or 173.86 MPH.

He’s accelerating the entire distance between these overpasses…. For the average to be a confirmed 174 mph, using his claimed top speed of 195, he passes the first bridge at around 150 MPH… I say myth confirmed, he hits 195 just as the second overpass is reached (then he rapidly slows down.)

Also, I wonder isn‘t there a law that says you can’t be convicted unwillingly on your own testimony? The right to be silent out of concern for incriminating one’s self? Was he breaking the speed limit? Obviously. Did the police have the right to arrest him on that evidence? I’m no lawyer, but I’m thinking not. Don’t rejoice that someone was thrown into the pit everyone. It appears they are widening the gap for the rest of us to be tossed in after and for less offense. No More Laws! More Local Control! You all remember how much people wished harm on the kid on the motorcycle? Well, that kid was riding at 2 am when there was almost no traffic, this guy is doing almost 200 mph on a highway with other people on it and most of you are saying it was neat. WTF?? this was a totally irresponsible act and could have gotten alot more people killed than the kid on the bike.

That video doesn’t speak for itself. Anyone with any experience driving at higher speeds knows that that car will not accelerate to 195 in that short of a distance. Consider that at 180 mph you’re traveling a mile every 20 seconds. At 195 you’re covering 286 feet (almost the length of a football field) every second.
      Speeding? Yes.
      Reckless driving? Yes.
      195 mph? No way!

When I am back in the states, I usually hit the highway doing between 80-120 from the on ramp, and slow to cruising speed, but only if I can see the traffic in lanes before hand. I know my car, and I know a little about what that car has, so there is not need to argue about the speed he was traveling, just the fact that he was doing it.

As for driving that fast…I was once very young and no so smart. I drove my car to its limits, it was only after I reached speeds over 150 that I realized the stupidity of my actions. Thankfully, nothing eventful happened, but as your speed increases, three things become very important.

The drivers skill becomes much more important, and while driving straight seems simple, the slightest change of angle is huge. The requirement for exceptional gear on that car to handle the higher speeds is essential. The third part which is the most important, and the reason why you shouldn’t drive that fast is the environment. Wind gusts, FOD, other drivers, and road conditions can not be controlled on a public road.

There is a reason why racing is done on closed tracks, and people should support those locations rather than try and force them to close. I use to volunteer with Race Legal when I lived in San Diego, and I think people should find other straight and circle tracks at which to volunteer. It helps to prevents illegal street racing and reckless speeding by educating, and it isn’t run by the government.

Agreed; this is another example of sheer insanity and utter recklessness. Even if the incident occurs at 2am the fact is there could have been someone in front of this lunatic at any time, coming out of a store parking lot or such. Then there would have been a number of fatalities and tragedy inflicted on the families as well.

When I was in Germany, I had a Ford Eccort that would push 165mph on the autobahn. Was he doing 195? SOFLARIDER thinks not but It looked like it to me, however he only hit it for a couple of seconds before he backed off. A few things to watch for; 1st By the time he gets into the fast lane, he was doing 80-85. 2nd watch how fast the overpasses come up, and 3rd look how fast he comes up on the cars at the end of the video that was doing about 65mph.

Did he do it? Sure looks like it.

Was it smart? No, not on a “Oklahoma freeway” their roads suck. He is lucky he didnt turn it into a kite.

Wait a minute everybody is missing the point on this one. Everybody hot rods a fast car once in awhile. They just have an opinion of how fast the guy is going unless they have some government expert frame by frame it. Are we now subject to anything we post, video, talk on the cellphone??? That could be subject to Big Brother arresting you??? What are they going to do investigate every video for some sort of law you break. Seatbelts, texting while driving?? What about the 1,000 of other video stunts on U tube. Motorcycle vid’s come to mind for me. Burnouts are reckless operation violations. Another vid on the Blaze is the pilot who exposed the TSA security weakness. What now we can’t narc on the feds??? We are supposed to expose Big Brother not have them snooping on us.

Oh one more issue I have with this. How about the cop surfing Ebay during work time instead of doing his job!!! If I search Ebay when I am at work, for one I would probably get fired and two I can‘t even get on Ebay at work because my company blocks it so that I am actually doing my job instead of snooping around on websites that don’t have anything to do with my job. I am sure this cop spent 6 hours out his 8 hour day buying stuff on the web instead of actually doing his job.

      soflarider-
i’m a south fla rider myself.i also raced dragbikes for 15-20yrs.5 of those years,i raced professionally-NHRA,IHRA,DRAGBIKE! and PROSTAR.i retired back in ‘98 and bought my first Harley D.
my last racing bike was an ‘83 GS1100 converted to a 1425cc big block.it was normally aspirated-no nitrous, turbo or supercharger.it had big cams,Lectron carbs,Vance and Hines racing head-ported,polished,big valves etc.-air shifter, shift light and, finally,a Superbike Mike chassis with an 8 inch motorcycle slick,no car tire.
anyway, from a standing start,i reached 165mph in 8.35 seconds (with the rear tire spinning through 1st gear).i had to hit the button for second gear before the bike would get up on the wheely bar.my short times (60ft) were less than desirable but once the bike hooked up,in second gear,it was quite a party to the end of the 1/4 mile.
i haven‘t done the math but this guy’s claim of 195mph,in the amount of time i observed, doesn’t seem out of the realm of possibility.just sayin’…

i seen the second video, and if you look up a interior pic of a 99 vett and look at the speedometer, and then watch the supposedly 165mph vid you will see the speedometer only goes to about 100-120mph. so he never got to those supposedly high speeds. What kills me is oklahoma has so damn much meth makers, robbers, and killers that the OHP took the time to track down a kid who made a video to sell his car, because someone didnt like the video’s he made to sell it. a email was sent to the ohp claiming they didnt like what was done on the video. i have called the ohp on people for driving erradically, and i was told it would only be a misdomeaner cause they wasnt there, so how can they do this to this guy?

In reference to SOFLARIDER’s assertion that there is no way that he was doing 195, he could have easily gotten up to 195 and backed out of it like he did in the video. When he got on the freeway he was doing in excess of 80 MPH assuming that the cars already on the freeway were doing about 60. From the time he got on the freeway until the time he backed out of it was 14 seconds. Now what you’re trying to tell me that a 1000+ HP Corvette can’t possibly go from 80 to 195 in 14 seconds when that same car would probably run a 9 second quarter mile time hitting the finish line at 145 MPH? And that’s in the span of 1320 feet from a dead stop. Nah, I think you’re all wet on your facts.

I love to go fast and race on the back roads with friends. But to go into major traffic at that speed is stupid. Now I know we are stupid for going that fast. Me and friends go 20 miles out of town here in west Texas. The only thing we are going to hurt is our self or a cow fence maybe a tree. But we never race on the freeway or near town. Anything can cause a crash tires breaks engine blows. Many things can wrong and will its only a matter of when and how bad. Am 39 and have been racing for 24 years. Am gulty of the same crap. Please kids its ok to love speed. But don’t put others at risk for your thrills. How would you feel if you lost control and killed a family and you lived. Go out of town find a road where cars don’t go down much. Have look outs for where you plan to do your runs. Its all fun and a rush. Just make sure no else pays for your thrills. I had to learn this the hard way. Please learn from my mistakes and do it safe as you can. People who don’t love speed will never understand. I do and did the same crap as a young man and am very lucky.

I had a modified 2002 Trans Am that I could coax to about 175 on the AZ highways when I had clear visibility for 10+ miles and I was the only thing on the road. No way this guy was doing 195. At 175 the broken line on the road becomes a solid white line. His sales video will get him a reduced fine in court.
Stupid to speed to the apparent 75-95mph this video shows in traffic.
