Man Arrested in Brazil With Nearly Two Pounds of Cocaine in His Gut

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Brazilian federal police say an Irish man has been arrested with nearly two pounds of cocaine in his gut.
Police identified the 20-year-old suspect only by his initials, P.B.K. Investigators said in a news release Friday that he tried to board a flight in Sao Paulo, headed to Brussels.
Officers became suspicious because the man appeared nervous. When questioned, he admitted he’d swallowed capsules of cocaine.
He was taken to a hospital, where he expelled 72 capsules containing 1.8 pounds (830 grams) of the drug.
The hospital released a CT scan showing the man filled with oval-shaped capsules.
He was arrested on suspicion of international drug trafficking. If found guilty, he would face five to 15 years in prison.
Elsewhere in South America, Bolivian authorities said a 30-year-old Spanish woman died when seven of 97 capsules filled with drugs burst inside her.
Hugo Cuella, coroner in the eastern city of Santa Cruz, told the Unitel network that poisoning by the drug caused the woman’s heart to stop Thursday while she was at the airport. He identified her as Esther Rodriguez Roy of Spain.
Authorities said they believed she planned to take a flight to Madrid.
Proseuctor Carlos Ruddy Parada said tests were being conducted to determine the type of drug she had swallowed.

Maybe some Mama somewhere is praying for him. If those capsules burst, he’d sure need Jesus!
(ps I do see it when mentioned but then, I spent several years in rehab for a head injury, it could be the “power of suggestion” for me.)

Posted on September 17, 2011 at 1:38pmThe photo does call to mind some questions such as how did they get dispersed like that if he swallowed them. There is a per-determined direction things travel when you swallow them and I don’t see that here.
But the fact remains it is a stupid thing to do. How often to plastic bags burst or leak? Omg…just those odds make it stupid. It’s not worth the risk to ship it that way. You’d have more success having the person walking it to the desired location.

Posted on September 17, 2011 at 2:01pmYou are only seeing the lower portion of his torso, and judging by the fact that so many of them were in his rectum, he must have swallowed them quite some time before the CT can. What you are seeing seems to indicate they are still spread out in both the small and large intestine. The headline says “gut” not stomach, and the CT seems to agree with that description.
The things people will do for cash in other countries, while here in the USA, you can’t find people who want to work. Oh, lots of people want to get paid, but working is another story…

I’d dispute that, I’ll bet go to any homeless shelter, bar or gang hangout & offer to pay mega $’s for simply swallowing drugs, taking a Free plane ride, & ex lax induced dump, you’d have to turn people away.

Wonder how many civil rights groups would have lined up to help him sue whoever did so! Besides, despite the fact that he’s badly, badly off course, this is a MAN FOR WHOM JESUS DIED, I like the praying for him and others like him SO MUCH BETTER!
