A man has been arrested in Florida after he unnecessarily called 911 twice in one night, once requesting deputies bring him business cards, and a second time to report “the media”:
From ClickOrlando.com:
Lawrence Gauthier, 61, of Oak Hill, has a history of using the 911 emergency line as his own personal request hot line, Volusia County deputies said.
On Sunday, Gauthier dialed 911 first to request that a deputy bring him business cards and later, while apparently intoxicated, he called 911 and told the dispatcher he wanted the media arrested, but admitted there was no emergency, deputies said.
Deputies said Gauthier has called the Sheriff’s Office 16 times since November to request business cards and check up on deputies.
Gautheir was charged with making false 911 calls and taken to the Volusia Branch Jail.
While we don‘t condone Gauthier’s actions, if you call 911 on “the media” we just might have to say: we understand it.

*****
Obviously he wasn‘t arrested on the basis that he’d made a couple of erroneous 911-dialings one night, drunk or ill or otherwise. The only way to put an end to people tying up the emergency lines is to prosecute egregious offenders.
(I’m still trying to get my head around the notion that the first two centuries of this nation when the localities ran the schools AND the children were actually educated is now to be considered the *dark ages* — hokay, fine.)

Posted on December 28, 2010 at 2:59pmSo funny – now Volusia County gets to pay for it. It would have been much easier and more cost effective to have simply hung up on him when he called instead of making an issue of it. Or just send him a bill or charge him with it – but haul him off to jail? really using a baseball bat when a switch would have been reasonable.

Posted on December 28, 2010 at 2:25pmMy mother had Alzheimer’s and use to dial 911 instead of 914 when calling me at home. She swore she didn’t do it, but a policeman would show up faithfully to check on her and I thank them from the bottom of my heart. If you look at the number pad on the phone the 4 is directly under the 1, so I seriously considered having my number changed, but then she died. The man obviously needs help and I hope he gets it, but not in jail. May God Bless.

It’s all good, next week is my turn to be spun a bit to tight, O.K., I did hear rumors that Macy’s is handing out get some humor cards next week, perhaps we can get together and see if it is true or we can take the proceeds from my new station and take a trip to Hawaii and have some snow cones in the dead of winter, better yet let’s save the proceeds and spend the taxpayers dime instead. Sound like a plan ? P.S. I don‘t have feathers and don’t call me Shirley ! Ha, Ha.

Posted on December 28, 2010 at 8:28amFox News reports = 259 ft. of snow fell in NY and all the Unions are on extended vacation leave, with pay. Meanwhile a dog got his head stuck in a brick wall and the Union firefighters spend 180 hours trying to rescue the dog. On another note 500 people were forced to spend 8 hours in a subway train without heat or water because the Union rescue crews didn’t want to go out in the frigid weather. Work 10 minutes and take a 30 minute break. I‘m so glad that there wasn’t any real news to talk about like how the Government passed a 725 billion dollar defence budget without anyone knowing anything about it, or how Christians are being slaughtered around the world for there faith. Keep up the good work Fox! We might get some news come January 3.

Report Post »//About 500 passengers were trapped on a disabled Manhattan-bound subway train in Queens for over seven hours without food, water, or heat. The A train, which was initially stuck above ground between the Aqueduct and Rockaway Blvd. stations, and then somehow managed to crawl to the Aqueduct Race Track station, was filled with people who had already waited hours for flights out of Kennedy Airport before they were ultimately canceled. The people were stuck on the train at approximately 1 a.m. and weren’t rescued until about 8 a.m. A rescue train that was supposed to be sent to get them also got stuck. The train was reportedly disabled because the storm shut down power to the third rail. “It wasn’t like the storm just snuck up on us,” said David Kelley, 25, who tried unsuccessfully to get to his security job at Kennedy before being forced to turn around. “They were aware … They need to have a backup plan. This isn’t a Third World country. This is New York City.”//

Posted on December 28, 2010 at 10:04am//The US defense budget is now nearly equal to the military spending of all other nations combined. The new budget allocates more on American military spending than was spent by the US during World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam War, or the Cold War Reagan era military buildup. US military expenditures have risen by at about 119%. //

Posted on December 28, 2010 at 10:27amWIREWIZARD; maybe you didnt hear about the unions because the unions weren’t at fault. Though corrupt, I agree
I’m curious why unions would be able to prevent subway passesgers rescue in NY, but they allowed all of those responders to enter the burning collapsing World Trade towers…

Posted on December 28, 2010 at 10:35amTHANK YOU WIREWIZARD for the fact-check on the 180hr dog rescue :o) Just goes to show how misinformation is used to sway perception, and as I heard myself on FoxNews: “perception is reality folks, and perception is how you vote”. I guess this is why Fox is running articles leading people to call for the eradication of the dept. of Education; I think we called that the DARK AGES.

Posted on December 28, 2010 at 10:54amWatchman,
I respectfully make the following suggestion. If you would like to have all of the news coverage that covers only Christian themes you should start your own TV station. I am given to understand that the Rev. Sharpton is very well connected with the FCC and being a staunch Christian himself I am sure he would do whatever he can to ease the licensure process for you.
Once your fledgling station is on the air (or cable) if there are enough people who like your programming format they will use their remote control devices and switch to your channel from whatever channel they were watching. If hordes of people start watching your station, advertisers who watch ratings very closely, will see your rating go up and then begin pull their ads from Fox, or whoever else they currently have them with, as their ratings are going down. If your ratings continue to climb, you will be in a position to charge more money for each ad spot. At that point you will probably be making a pretty good profit and you can hire more/better people to enhance your broadcast lineup. At some point, if your idea continues to be successful you will have most of the advertising money and all of the other stations will be either marginalized or driven out of business. If all of this sounds foreign to you it‘s because it’s called Free Enterprise Capitalism. In the Stone Age we used to teach and practice this discredited economic concept here in the United States, but somewhere around the beginning of the 20th century it fell out of favor.
So, in the new and improved America of the 21st century here is what will probably happen to your company now that you are a profitable new near-monopoly. The Congress will undoubtedly notice that you are making a ton of money. Spurred on by cries of “foul” from your marginalized competitors and any other special interest group that your programming ignores, offends or villifies, the Congress will drag you (or your proxy) in for a Congressional hearing. They will chastise you for your evil ways. How dare you make such obscene profits! Bad Watchman! How dare you not have stories about dogs stuck in the snow! Why are you such a dog hater? (Here comes PETA) All of the marginalized networks who you haven’t driven out of business will be there to film the proceedings, or buy it from CSPAN. They will pick out the most damning 30 seconds of an 8 hour hearing and gleefully show it on their evening news broadcast. The talking heads will then expound on what a bigot you are in that you only show Christian news, especially Christians being killed by Muslims! What an evil, evil Watchman you are! And, man, will they look sincere doing it. Then, since you only cover Christians, the AJC will start calling for a boycott of your station because you are obviously anti-Israel. And you know how those Jews are on Madison Avenue don’t you? Thick as thieves, brother. And on and on and on….
Next comes the Class Action Law Suit. You see, your are now known as one who has “Deep Pockets”. Slimeball attorneys just love Deep Pockets. So do Greedy Jealous Losers. Here’s the rough equation. Evil Entreprenuer + Deep Pockets +Slimeball Attorney + Greedy Jealous Losers = YOU PAY BIG MONEY!!! You‘ll probably settle most of these claims quietly before they get anywhere near a court because you won’t want your advertisers to know that their next rate increase is for no reason other than to enrich slimeball attorneys and greedy jealous losers. That’s bad for business. And on and on and on….
And we haven’t even gotten to the real good part yet. Since you’ve now joined the once revered ranks of owners of profitable companies, the Government will need to get their share. Why they have worked just as hard as you have to build your “evil” empire, haven’t they? May I suggest you procure a hospital size jar of Vaseline, some fine wine, a little soft music and if you so choose, your smoke of choice before proceeding further with this step. All that stuff won‘t really matter but at least you won’t feel quite so cheapened when they are done. They will bring their own condoms; maybe. And on and on and on……
Please let me know when you get your station going so I can be sure to request it from my satellite provider. I’m not sure how much I will watch it, but I sure do love to have a bunch of choices! Good luck.

No, we call that the world prior to Jimmy Carter. How was the educational system prior to Jimmy Carter and the Department of Education?
Well, let’s see. Kids could read earlier, write cursive script, compose gramatically correct sentences, understood detailed math and could pass a history test that most adults today couldn’t even sit down to take without being struck dumb.
Yes sir, that Department of Education and the dark ages. Go hand in hand, yo.
