A Colorado worker was killed Thursday when he was crushed by a pile of pinto beans more than 15 feet high and suffocated, the Denver Post reported.

Just how Raymond Segura, Jr. — who was an employee at the Kelly Bean Co. in Brush, Colo. — ended up trapped under the beans is under investigation.

Undersheriff Dave Martin told the Post Segura, 56, was working inside a storage warehouse where beans are brought in in bulk by an overhead conveyor belt.

“He somehow wound up under this mountain of beans,” Martin told the newspaper.

Local Denver station KWGN-TV reported the incident took place around 11:20 a.m. Thursday. It took 55 rescuers roughly an hour to dig him out from the pile. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

    So Sad! Just a working man going to his job one day. Be sure to kiss your spouse every morning before you leave for work. Kids, too. You just never know when it will be the last memory you leave them with. Rest In Peace. (I didn’t abbrieviate that for OBVIOUS reasons) NOT funny.

      You never know when the Grim Reaper is going to reach out and grab you. I knew a man, 46 years old. He had a bad headache and left work early. Went home, went to sleep, and never woke up. They say it was an aneurism in his brain. Laugh at death if you want to, but we’re all just whistling past the graveyard.

    In all of the industrial accidents that happen in the US in a given year, why is this one a headliner? It‘s almost as if it’s presented as some kind of joke because it involved the beans. I don’t find it funny at all.

      LUKERW, I ran across this recently. It’s spot on and easy to remember. I THINK you — and all of us — could benefit greatly from it:

      Before you speak (or type):

      T = is it true?
      H = is it helpful?
      I = is it inspiring (encouraging)?
      N = is it necessary?
      K = is it kind?

      You mean if he previously eaten enough beans for lunch once trapped he could have just ripped one and blew himself out of the pile?

      This poor guy got buried in Beans – while all of America is being buried in debt – which is a much slower way to suffocate.

    I said “hold the beans”.

    Work place accidents are the worse, you are at a place you would rather not be, “WORKING”, and you die around strangers, not loved ones.

    And the worse thing about this is he was docked a half days pay for not clocking out.

      Only people with High IQ, such as Professors, should work in these jobs… as you must analyze future events and what will kill you… so, the remedial are not equiped to handle this task. Rather, the remedial should work only in Government… which is Institutionally Remedial. Then, the Teachers can be the Students… for they know everything! ObamaLand!!
