Man Dies During Swim Portion of New York City Triathlon

A 64-year-old man died Sunday during the swim portion of Sunday’s Nautica New York City Triathlon, according to officials.
“We are deeply saddened to report the death,” said a statement from Race Director Bill Burke.
The man was treated by emergency medical staff at the event site and then transported to Roosevelt Hospital.
A female athlete also suffered a medical problem during the swim event, but Burke’s statement failed to specify the nature of the trouble. She was also treated by on-site medical staff and was also sent to Roosevelt Hospital, where she was in critical condition Sunday night.

The start of a race is filled with excitement and anxiety, nearly redlining most of us, a couple hundred swimmers, in the same spot, lots of knees and elbows to avoid, the one day insurance for the promoter, is about 90% of the total entrance fees (because of the swim), let it be know, at 64 he was pursuing challenges in life, not sitting in a rocking chair.
