DENTON, Texas (The BlazeAP) — A man has been found dead at a campsite at the University of North Texas campus where Occupy Denton protesters have been gathering, a school official said.

University spokesman Buddy Price said officers from the school‘s police department found the man’s body Saturday after someone called authorities, the Dallas Morning News reported. Price said no one else was at the encampment when police arrived.

He told the newspaper the man is believed to have been a member of the Occupy Denton encampment.

The man’s name and age have not been officially released, but in a statement Occupy Denton identified him as “fellow occupier” Darwin Cox, and said he had a “lifelong struggle with drug addiction.”

“He was found in a tent on the Occupy Denton camp where he had been given shelter after a fellow occupier saw him suffering from a fever,” the statement said. “Darwin’s lifelong struggle with drug addiction is suspected to have played a role in this tragedy.”

An autopsy is pending.

The campsite is still operating, but some protesters could be seen packing up and leaving late Saturday night, NBC affiliate KXAS-TV reported.

Occupy Denton protester and University of North Texas senior Garrett Graham told the station the group is in mourning.

“This is a family and this is a community here,” Graham said. “We’re dealing with this loss the way a family does — lots of condolences, a lot of emotion and a lot of love.”

University police referred calls to Price on Saturday night. Price did not immediately return a phone call to The Associated Press.

Denton is about 40 miles northwest of Dallas.

These people are no more than pawns in a very dangerous game – - and the prize is America.

Communist revolutionaries are behind this… don’t doubt it.

The only reason the liberal mayors have begun shutting them down is because it’s too soon for the final move.

I am saddened to hear about people dying, especially alone and lonely. It is so unnecessary.

I’ve lost friends to drugs, aids, violence, crime, and natural causes. Only humans scourge themselves with additional burdens in life, and then turn to drugs to hide the pain and shame of earlier failures.

Even though we do not like what the Occupiers represent, he was still a human being and some are so callous and mean spirited that it shocks me that American’s can even write with such coldness. This was someones child, someones brother..maybe he was someones uncle, or cousin. And somewhere his family is mourning his loss, maybe remembering him going over old baby photos, or school pictures.. Life is twists and turns..and it is sad he chose the life he did, but once he was a sweet infant, that to took his first steps and his first tooth. God help us that we forget that this was one of your children and forgive us! RIP Darwin!

He was still someones child and we should all act a little more human.. God help us!

I have no compassion for a drug addict that dies. He had his chances I am sure. God allowed him to die doing what he chose to do. It was his choice to be a doper, not mine. When God let him die, why should I shed a tear? There are \hundreds of Government teat suker programs that he could have taken advantage of. Better yet, he could have turned to God and probably did not. No tears here.

To all of you… what would Jesus do.. this is what is wrong with our society.. people don’t forgive, but they sure judge a dead young man who for whatever reason took the wrong path down a road to his demise.. so you have children who had drug addicted parents.. well unless you are a genie or a God those children may take the very same road.. and if one dies, will you have any compassion for him or her??? Somehow I think you will.. I find it very sad that you people are lacking compassion.. and you with the kids, you had enough compassion to take children in.. it would help those same children for you to show some compassion towards the parents who bore them.. its bad enough they have to grow up knowing the truth about their parents.. but it would help if the person raising them can have just a little compassion towards their parents no matter how much you seem to hate them, because teaching a child to hate is the very last thing I would want to teach a child, but you are well on your way. God help us when we can’t mourn the passing of one wayward human being. Shame!

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” – Matt7:1-2

    But it continues…

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” – Matt7:7-12

So Rick, are you saying if I don’t sympathize for this man I am judging him? I do not judge him. I do sympathize with his family (his real one not his fellow occupiers). However I do not feel sorry for him. He most likely died as he lived. He was by the accounts of his own friends a junkie. He then put himself in an encampment with a bunch of fellow junkies and enablers who provided him with the drugs that probably killed him. I mourn for any Mother, Father, Sister or Brother who loses a family member to addiction but when you live by the sword you will most likely die by the sword.

Scripture taken out of context does no make you a Bible scholar or even a Christian. Paul says to judge ALL things…What do you do with that scripture…rip that one from your Bible genius? Matthew 7 is the most misused and stupid use of scripture to justify sin.

Learn what it means before you spew stupidity. That scripture is a call to PURITY. Something the OWS crowd and you eveidently do not know…

    “Someone” called the authorities.
No protesters, just the body at the encampment when police arrived.
Occupy Denton group says he was a fellow occupier and they are dealing with his loss like a family?

    Translates to:

The body was found, an anonymous call was placed, the camp leader told everyone it would be better if they were absent when the police arrived and the Occupy Denton group is in full damage control trying to keep their “image” from being tarnished.

I am underwhelmed by the wisdom of OWS people. Was it a low grade fever or a high grade fever? If it was a high grade fever, letting him rest in a tent instead of taking him to a hospital is stupid & criminal.

But it seems that OWS wants re-invent everything. If a person rapes someone, report it to the police? He11 no, they will talk to him.

Someone has a fever? Do they figure out how bad it is? No, the let him occupy a tent.

It seems as though they have to relearn & purposefully relearning (cuz they know better) everything that humankind has ever learned. That is hubris.

“He was found in a tent on the Occupy Denton camp where he had been given shelter after a fellow occupier saw him suffering from a fever,”. If they would have just taken him to a doctor he might have lived. But the doctor might be a 1% person so it was better for the cause that Darwin was left to die.

This loser has gone from an occupyicicle to a corpsicle.
When you have a group that lives with no morals and an anything goes attitude what do you expect to happen?
I have a close friend that has a POS son that is a druggie and he and his whench are both hepatitis C positive from sharing heroin needles and they are leaches on anyone that will let them do so.
The problem stems from the mother. No matter what he does she is there to bail him out. She has gone so far into debt for him it’s not funny. She refuses to cut the umbilicle cord.
The attitude she has is that of an enabler. If she had used the tough love approach she wouldn’t be broke and he might have grown up eventually.
I think it’s a huge problem when so many women raise a child alone.
The majority of single mothers have so much on their plates that it’s hard to discipline the child too.

They meet up with the protesters and they get some more free stuff after their monthly checks are spent on drugs and booze. I am surprised that the crime rate in these camps aren’t alot higher than what we are hearing unless the media keeps it hush hush.
