Man Gets 10 Years in Kuwaiti Prison for Allegedly Sending Anti-Prophet Mohammad Tweets

Hamad al Naqi Sentenced to 10 Years for Insulting Prophet MohammedWe’ve already told you that Kuwaiti officials arrested a man for allegedly sending disparaging Prophet Mohammad tweets earlier this year. Following the initial detainment for his “crime” in March, Hamad al-Naqi, the man at the center of the controversy, is slated to spend 10 years behind bars.

The harsh sentencing comes after al-Naqi was found guilty of endangering state security as a result of sending his controversial anti-Mohammad social media messages. In addition to posting tweets against the holy figure, he also purportedly went after leaders in Saudi Arabia and Iran, commenting about them on Twitter as well. How his actions constitute an endangerment of national security – well, that hasn’t quite been explained.

Since the case commenced, al-Naqi has maintained his innocence. Back in March, he has claimed that his account was hacked and that he was not the individual who sent the messages in question. He has also said that attacking the “Holy Prophet” is not something he would ever do.

Some Sunni activists, according to the BBC, felt that al-Naqi, a Shia Muslim, should be put to death for his actions. Recently, Kuwait’s parliament endorsed a law that would give anyone the death penalty who insults Mohammad and subsequently refuses to apologize. While it hasn’t yet been signed into law, this particular crime occurred before its endorsement, thus it wouldn’t apply. The BBC continues, with more on the disturbing case:

Mr Naqi’s lawyer, Khaled al-Shatti, said the death penalty could not be applied in this case because the alleged crime had taken place before the change in legislation. [...]

After his client was found guilty on Monday, Mr Shatti said: “The prison sentence is long but we have the chance to appeal.”

He also said that even if Mr Naqi had written the offending tweets, he should only have been guilty only of a “crime of opinion”, not of threatening national security, which carried the 10-year prison term.

It will be interesting to see if this extremely radical death penalty law makes its way onto the books. If al-Naqi’s case is any indication, though, it seems — regardless of whether it passes — that harsh penalties are in order for anyone in Kuwait who disparages Islam.

    Does anyone remember the Balkan wars? The one where Milovich, the butcher of Sarevo I think it was, was all into the ethnic cleansing thing and murdering hundreds of thousand of Muslims. It was in the 90s. Unbelievable slaughter of masses of Muslims all over the place and in some of the other nations. Muslims were being slaughtered in a wholesale ethnic cleansing and even today, they are digging up un-numbered mass graves. Not a single Muslim country so much as sent one person to help nor did they give a single cent to help their “brother and sister” Muslims. Not a single finger of any Muslim nation was raised. Guess who brought the ethnic cleansing to an end….we did. At our own expense. We saved the Muslim asses. Whats up with that. And the bastards hate us, the Christians….

    Another fine example of the love and tolerance that is the islamic faith. How much more will it take before America wakes up to the fact that Islam is not a religion of peace and love but of war and subjegation? If the man would have mention Jesus in his tweet they have beheaded him. Wake up America, the Muslims want to be able to have religious freedom in America, all the while, stifling the freedom of speech for others and the freedom of religion for others as well. It is fine for them to make fun of and criticize the christian religions but oh no you can’t criticize their religion. Its blaspheme. For example Jesus was the most learned person those among the courts and religious persons in his time had ever met. This is very plain in Scripture.       Jesus spoke Hebrew (with an Aramaic dialect). In Hebrew El-means God; Eli-means God; and Elohim-is God. Prophet Muhammad spoke Arabic and in the Arabic language Allah-means God. Hebrew and Arabic are sister languages. In Greek Theos-means God.

      Jesus never established Christianity as a religion. Christianity is a man made religion.

      There are many different versions of the Bible.

      Prophet Muhammad lived 1400 years ago. You don‘t believe he’s a man of God but you believe all the negative things about him. (interesting)

      What scripture from the Qur’an (no such religious book in Islam is called a Koran) says it okay to steal and lie?

      Prophet Muhammad had given away almost all his wealth (King Solomon had wealth) before he died. Again, you don’t believe any of the good things about Muhammad, just the so called bad things that you hear.

      Prophet Muhammad never claimed to have died for the sins of the world, nor did anyone ever claim he was resurrected.

      If you are looking for a miracle from Prophet Muhammad all you have to do is read the Qur’an and you will find it. However Jesus said miracles are not the test that you are a man of God. Jesus said false Christ and false prophets can do that. They can do it so well even his very elect can be fooled.

      Matthew 24:24: For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

      At one point Jesus’ own family did not believe in him:

      John 7:5: For neither did his (Jesus’) brethren believe in him.

      Mark 3:21: When his family heard what was happening, they tried to take him away. “He’s out of his mind,” they said.

      Allah, the moon god was married to the sun goddess. Together they produce the three goddess (the daughters of Allah), Al-Lat, Al-Uzza and Manat. All of these ‘gods’ were viewed as being the top of the pantheon of Arab deities. (Encyclopedia of World Mythology and Legend, I.61).

      In the Islamic publication, “Women in Islam”, published by the Islamic Publications in Lahore Pakistan it also states the reasons and justification for Islamic wife beating, page 35:

      Prophet Muhammad was raised by his uncle and mentor. He did not have a foster father or mother.

      If the word Allah means moon god; why did Allah say in the Holy Qur’an:

      And among His Signs are the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. Do not prostrate (bow down in worship) yourselves to the sun nor to the moon, but prostrate yourselves to Allah (Arabic, word for God Almighty), Who created them, if it is Him that you wish to serve.

      But if the (unbelievers) are proud, (it does not matter): Because, in the Presence of your Lord are those (His, Angels) who celebrate His Praises by night and by day. And they are never tired of it (nor feel themselves above it).

    No criticism of Mohammad, the Koran nor any aspect of Islam can be allowed in Islam. If free thought and criticism were actually allowed in Islam, the whole religion would implode in the matter of a single generation. That’s why criticism is so harshly punished.

    This is the one of the many reasons I hate religion. To many people hate is a strong word. But it is the only word I can find to describe my view on this topic. Whatever happened to free speech or skepticism being accepted to challenge tradition and religion.

      Religion ALWAYS needs to be kept in its place.

      But it can not be persecuted or banned.

      It is a tricky dance.

      So far, America has had the right idea: let the free market of ideas decide.

      However, the religious mind is essentially a totalitarian mind because it claims to know all there is to know about everything there is to know.

      Government and religion need to be separate.

      Religion that relies on government is tyranny.

      Government that relies on religion is also tyranny.

      Catch-22 if i ever did see one.

      Be good and just.
