Man Gets 5-Day Sentence for Theft Caught in Photo

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A man captured in a vacationing family’s photograph as he stole their bag in front of the Wisconsin State Capitol received a five-day jail sentence and a nearly $500 fine.

Man Gets 5 Day Sentence for Theft Caught in PhotoThe Wisconsin State Journal reported Saturday that Glenn Lambright was given credit for time already served after pleading no contest to misdemeanor theft earlier this month.

Vacationer John Myers of Bloomfield, N.J., had set the self-timer on his camera and hustled into the frame with his wife and two children in August. Meanwhile, a man grabbed a bag containing Myers’ wallet and other items.

After discovering the bag missing, Myers checked his camera and found a photo with a man picking up the bag in the background. Myers showed the photo to police, who recognized the man and tracked him down.

Wisconsin, shimisconsin, he was smart enough to pick a liberal state. Anywhere else, he probably would have been charged with grand theft.

A couple years back I was working in the city. I finished working for the day and was putting my tools back in the van. After a third trip out to the van I saw a pair of legs sticking out of the van. I pulled him out of the van, still holding one of my power tools, and wrestled him to the ground. He didn’t realy fight to hard he beged me not to call the police. Rather than call the police I took all of his money $6.42, a 5th of cheep whiskey, and his shoes. (it was summer time) I tossed the boose and gave the money and shoes to street person around the block. The thief was not happy that he was robbed!

$500 and five days. So, he spends the same amount of time in prison as he has to work to pay off the debt to the court… what about the debt he owes to the family? What about the cash, credit card charges, and other problems they will be dealing with for years to come?

I am a firm believer in the punishment style detailed in the Robert Heinlein book Starship Troopers. Let’s see how many petty thieves there will be if they had to take 25 lashes in the public square? Or drunk drivers for 10 lashes, or murders for public hangings?

Beware! There are opportunists everywhere waiting for an opening. It only takes a second or two and the crooks are gone. This family was fortunate, although more than likely the money was spent already by the time police got to the culprit. What is it, about 85% of crimes are drug related? Yeah, this thief surely spent the money before he got home…if he has a home.

There was a school principal in CA convicted and imprisoned for stealing OSB for a shed. What kind of a stupid judges do we have. The victim in the case spray painted on the roof “Thou shalt not steal”.

@billtgh, nothing would have happened if a DHS officer had seen the bag! He/she would have asked if it was their bag bag before calling in a report on a suspicious package, if that officer was a good officer that is. Nobody deserves to have their stuff stolen!

How about what Barack Obama has stolen from America, how much time can we give him and his Left Wing socialist fanatics ? Obama has it in mind to steal our money, our liberty, and our guns and more. Well, on 2 November America will have the appropriate answer for this sociaist narcissist. Like a sleeping giant Obama is going to find out he damn well underestimated the goodness of America. After this mid-term election and into 2012 we are going to send a clear message to Obama, the Clintons, George Soros, Barney Frank, Rangel, Reid, Airhead Pelosi, and many more

OR WAS IT BECAUSE HE IS A REPEAT OFFENDER AND SHOULD HAVE STAYED IN JAIL LONGER THAN 5 DAYS!!!……….THOSE JACKWAGONS!!!!!

I see you have been listening to gunny. (Geico commercial if I remember correctly)

Something does need to be done, the main questions as I see it is What needs to be effectively and efficiently changed, what needs to be done away with, and how to do both realilistically. Anyone who has an practical answer(s) is farther along than myself, I honestly have not gotten close yet.

Love the Gunny comercial, you nambypampy! Only in Madison WI. You’ve got to be there to fully understand the time warp they are living in on the UW Campus. They think it’s 1968-1971 and the we want it our way, you need to pay for it mentality continues. What I can never figure out is why we have so much compassion for the crimanally inclined but, the same people want death panels and rationing for beautiful aging and ill citizens that just desire to live….Don’t you touch those career criminals, poor things…gramma, your out of here. This is good that young thief is caught, jailed and fined. Odd the police recognized this boy which suggests he has a prior criminal history or otherwise draws police attention somehow.

A more shocking fashion crime is daddy up there wearing a seersucker suit, a skinny tie and tennis shoes. Way geeky.

I responded to an ad in our local paper for some items for sale, I show up in a public place well lit with lots fo people around, I proceed to get $1100 dollars stolen from me.

I asked first for couples id, got their lic. plate number, called police and gave them the info.
Now 8 months later, they have filed charges, they knew them and had a number of thefts charges, asked what kind of time they would do, police says 2 weeks tops.
Jails are over crowded so don’t expect much in terms of jail time, nor will I ever see a nickel.

Our counrty is done for, when people can break the law with inpunity.

At least this is one vacation that will not be forgotten of by the family. They have a picture of them and the crook. Also they have the knowledge of solving a crime at the same instant. Anyone could have left the bag in a moment of not considering the possibility of theft.
