Man Ticketed for Calling 911 Three Times…to Report a Break-In at His Mother’s Home

A Detroit man who called 911 three times to report a break-in at his mother’s apartment has been ticketed for “misuse” of the emergency line, even though the reason he kept calling was because it took police hours to show up.
Sean Street told Detroit Fox affiliate WJBK-TV his mother called him when she returned home and saw her front door had been kicked in. He called 911, then jumped in his car to go over to her apartment.
It took him an hour to get there, and when he arrived police hadn’t shown up. He made another 911 call and another hour later they still hadn’t come by, so he called a third time.
“[There] was no profanity whatsoever. I was very polite with them. The officer actually seemed very polite, also, and he told me let us handle it. Don’t take matters into your own hands,” Street told the station.
When police finally showed up, they talked to a witness who said he had seen two males wearing black hoods break into the home.
“[The officer said] there was nothing they could do about it,” Street said. “I asked him if they would’ve came on time, the guys would’ve still been there? He said, if you want us to have a faster response time, contact the mayor to see if we can arrive on time faster and have more police officers.”
Street said police never followed up with his mother, but that a week later he opened up his mail to find he’d been sent a misdemeanor ticket for “malicious use of communications device misuse of 911.” It said Street repeatedly called 911, escalating a police run because he was unsatisfied with the response time, according to WJBK.
He must appear in court and if convicted, faces a $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail. He plans to contest the ticket.
“They found the time to write me a ticket,” he said. “They never followed up with my mom about the investigation, the detective at all, but the detective actually had time to write me a ticket for that.”

She replies in “perfect” ghetto lingo that she will perosnally come by to pick it up. Sad.

Posted on January 7, 2012 at 1:54pmYou know none of this has to do with us making it as a cop, but what it does have to do with is getting the service we pay for from our rising property taxes. Now if this was not an emergency to the cops then after the second call to the 911 operator that operator should have told this man that they would send an officer out within a few hours when other calls slowed down, but to sent this man a ticket with a fine of 500 bucks along with 90 days in jail is in a word OUTRAGEOUS!

Posted on January 7, 2012 at 3:24pm@ Integrety, first of all thank you for being there, I have worked in law enforcement for 25 years (retired) if I were to call the police for a problem it would take up to an hour for them to respond because we are covered by State Police who are stationed 40 miles away. That is why I believe that every honest american should be armed, trained, and ready to use what-ever measures neccessary to protect their family. Last year we burried 9 Officers who were killed in the line of duty, I know their job is hard and thankless at times, but some of us are gratefull to those men and women who put their life on the line every day they go to work. You can’t do much when you are burglarize though, no one is there when you come home.

Posted on January 8, 2012 at 6:14pm@ the DAYTONCONSERV: Remember this story??
DAYTON — The city’s Civil Service Board and the U.S. Department of Justice have agreed on a lower passing score for the police recruit exam after it was rejected because not enough blacks passed the exam.
The city lowered both written exams a combined 15 points that resulted in 258 more people passing the exam, according to a statement released Thursday by Civil Service officials. The agreement allows the city to immediately resume its plans to hire police and firefighters.
The original passing scores determined by Civil Service required candidates to answer 57 of 86 (66 percent) questions correctly on one portion and 73 of 102 (72 percent) on the other. The lowered benchmark requires candidates to answer 50 of 86 (58 percent) questions correctly and 64 of 102 (63 percent) of questions on the other.
A total of 748 people passed the exam under the new benchmarks. It is unclear the demographics of those who passed.”
It’s a nobrainer about the demographics. I lived in Dayton for 7 years. Lots of folks lost jobs when the union run businesses folded. I know all about “joe average” there. But to lessen the requirements for police and firefighters does not IMPROVE those proffessions. FYI; I voluntarilly left a $70K job to move back to Colorado in the 90′s. One of the best decisions I ever made.

When we called 911 when someone broke into our garage I just told the police hubby and son were going into the garage with guns ready and the police were there in less than two minutes. The man climbed out a back window and the officers chased him and caught him. It really was quite funny watching this dirt bag all muddy and scared out of his wits with all the guns on him. I had to snap a picture. Believe me, he won’t be bothering my neighborhood again. It may not have been so funny if anyone had to use their guns to protect themselves. i know that we have people who are bleeding heart liberals that want to do away with guns, or people who would shoot you for the dollar in your wallet, etc…. and this isnt a cure-all, but its just an idea of the direction we may need to go. have the people turning 18 now start training, and *possibly* grandfather in the people who’ve taken their carrying courses, require range practice for everyone, and already we would be gaining a foothold toward curtailing crime by making people think twice about attacking americans in our own country.
i understand not everyone is going to agree with it, but we have illegals and legals alike killing our own- mostly in area where gun-ownership is almost prohibited. its just my opinion.
but, as yeah buddy says, its a free country, do or dont whatever you want
