NYC Residents Voice Outrage Over Protests: ‘Neighbors Do Not Beat on Drums While Children are Sleeping’

“The occupiers are not our neighbors,” Manhattan resident Linda Gerstman, who lives on Broad Street, told those at the Community Board 1 meeting on Thursday night. “Our neighbors do not beat on drums while children are sleeping. Our neighbors do not verbally attack people on their way to work.”
She wasn’t the only resident who lives near the Occupy Wall St. encampment that voiced displeasure to boards Quality of Life and Financial District sub-committees regarding the almost two-month long demonstration. Many residents gathered at the meeting to complain about the sanitation, the noise, and the safety issues caused by the protest.
“Their entrance ways and door stoops are being defecated on, urinated on,” said another woman, who appeared to sit on the board, about local businesses.
Still another man took umbrage with them being called neighbors: “Neighbors pay rent.”
A well-dressed Occupy spokesperson, Han Shan, said that there’s a growing “consensus” among the protesters that they need to be “better neighbors:”
So what did the board end up doing about the complaints? NBCNewYork.com has the answer:
A resolution passed by Community Board 1 during the meeting recognized Occupy Wall Street’s First Amendment rights to protest and to assemble, and said it opposed the use of force by the city or by Zuccotti Park‘s owners to address the community’s concerns.
But the resolution also called for protesters to help address the residents’ health, public safety, noise and sanitation concerns.
Among the goals detailed in the resolution:
- limiting the use of drums, trumpets, bugles and air horns to two hours a day, during midday;
- arranging access to bathrooms off-site to eliminate urinating and defecating in doorways of retail shops and residential buildings;
- removing police barricades that block access to homes and businesses
By the way, if there was a girl who looked familiar in the background of the above video, that’s because Blaze readers have seen her before. Did you happen to catch a glimpse of this woman?
According to The Village Voice, that’s Nelini Stamp, one of the Occupy representatives at the meeting. She’s the woman featured in our earlier video who works for the Working Families Party — you know, the group that is really behind the “grassroots” protests:
Like a good neighbor, the Wall St. protesters are there.

Posted on October 21, 2011 at 11:51amCan anyone imagine the outcry if a Tea Party rally had occupied an urban park for almost two months? If they had defecated and trashed their surroundings, and made loud noise at all hours?
The politicians would have evicted them already, by force.
Why? Because the Tea Party represents law abiding people, and they would have respected the police when they told them to leave. Contrast that behavior with what is happening by these occupy looters.

Posted on October 21, 2011 at 1:01pmHi Will4Freedom! I‘m happy to help you out on this using Cain’s 999 plan as an example. Everybody under that plan is taxed 9%. So that is “fair” to some, and to you I guess, gives the US more “freedom.” But, as you may know, that “fair” plan raises taxes on 4/5 of the citizens in the US, in order to lower taxes on the upper 1/5 of wage earners. So 4/5ths of America is instantly poorer, while the upper 1/5 are instantly richer. Of course the poorest are hardest hit, because they are spending, and getting taxed on, all their money just trying to stay alive.
So the rich get richer, and the rest of us get poorer. That I guess is “fair” and constitutes more freedom in the mind of the Tea Party.
Now, if we go even farther down that road (and we’re pretty far, average wages, like yours, in real dollars has decreased over the last 10 years, while the rich continue to get richer), before you know it, a tiny sliver of the country will be extraordinarily rich, and the rest of us dirt poor.
Then, at least, we’ll be free, and no more robbing from the rich!

A Quinnipiac press release breaks down the results further
New York City voters say 72 – 24 percent, including 52 – 41 percent among Republicans, that
if the protesters obey the law,
they can stay as long as they wish.
The protestors are breaking many laws, what would your precious Quinnipiac poll say about that.

Wait, I thought your latest talking point was that the richest people were paying a lower percentage. Shouldn’t this be raising their tax relative to the rest of society? You can’t have it both ways.
If going to a flat rate lowers taxes on the rich and raises taxes on the poor then that just demonstrates how “unfair” the progressive system is currently.

Posted on October 21, 2011 at 2:24pmAngie, this isn’t about bailouts, this isn’t even about wall street sucking up to Washington . This is about burning down the republic and replacing it with a European style socialist State. Kind of what Greece, England and ummm. Wait a min……Aren’t they rioting because their quasi socialist state is falling apart? lol…..What fools they are.

Posted on October 21, 2011 at 11:32amThis is what Mr Obama really stands for — Chaos and more chaos until the people scream out for the madness to come to an end, and then the top slams down with the force of an asteroid that will finish everything off in the nation.
Anyone wants to see what real anarchy and lawlessnes is — look there at those who are part of the OWS astroturf movement; the progressives and the radicals think they can control this mess, and the fact is, no they cannot, once a certain critical mass is achieved, anarchy takes on a life of its own and becomes a plague of chaos and lawlessness.
Those who think they can control chaos forget one rule as well “Chaos can neither be fully controlled nor contained, it can only be balanced by the establishment of rule and order.”
Those who start a mess with Chaos in mind, supposedly to control it, often will be the ones to first be consumed and annhilated by it.

PATHETIC!

Posted on October 21, 2011 at 11:25amYou’d think Bloomberg would have figured out that the folks who live and work in NY are the ones who pay TAXES, therefore, he should side with the residents, not the useful idiots. What an outrage. If I were a resident, I’d get the meanest, baddest watch dog I could find, with large teeth, chained up on my door step. let’s see how many protesters would dare take a dump on my stoop!
