LAS VEGAS (AP) — Manny Pacquiao was taken to the limit Saturday night before escaping with a decision win over Juan Manuel Marquez in their welterweight title fight.
Pacquiao won on two scorecards, while the third ringside judge had it a draw. It was a narrow escape for the Filipino congressman, who took as much punishment as he got over 12 rounds.
The third fight between the two was as close as the previous two, and by the time they finished 12 rounds, the outcome was still in doubt. Pacquiao won some rounds with sheer aggression, while Marquez won others with brilliant counterpunching, keeping Pacquiao from getting inside.
Marquez was a 7-1 underdog, but it was clear early he would be in this fight.

Posted on November 14, 2011 at 5:14pmI’m sorry that Marquez is such a poor loser. It was a close fight, but the judges called it correctly. It could have gone either way. If you look at post fight interviews for Marquez in all three fights, he has always whined and cried that the judges were wrong. I have heard today that the judges should be fired and banned from the Nevada Sports Commission, even though they have had successful careers in judging all other fights. Spare us the complaints and carry on like a man!

Report Post »Rowgue
Posted on November 14, 2011 at 4:42amActually no. A syndrome is a collection of symptoms for which a cause is not known. Where they can’t find anything medically wrong with you, but you exhibit a certain set of symptoms for a seemingly inexplicable reason.
It‘s well established that parkinson’s is the result of the degradation of dopamine producing nuerons in the brain. The symptoms have an established medical cause making it a disease.
This is really just semantics because the terms are used interchangeably in the medical community and are rarely used in the technically rigid fashion that you’re tryint to pretend they are. However if you did use the terms keeping to their most rigid definitions, you would be mistaken.

Posted on November 13, 2011 at 7:57pmBoth of these guys are warriors and deserve every bit of what the sport affords. Both were born and lived in poverty and this was the best way out of the ditch for them. As an old fight fan I really respect both of them and wish the best for both of them. The only beef I have is that Marquez was short changed on his pay day. I think 80/20 is way to large of a pay check difference. I believe 60/40 is more in line.

Posted on November 13, 2011 at 9:26amI have watched a lot of Manny’s fights and this one was a tough one, perhaps the toughest. Marquez is just a hard match up and took Manny to tasking keeping him from knocking him down this time or knocking him out. But neither did Marquez knock out or knock down Manny. In the end Manny won. Period. Marquez cut him with a head but, hit him behind the head, and did NOT pursue going after the title or Manny. These mexicans are definitely sore losers and better learrn to accept the FACT that Mexico has NOT one fighter who can beat the great Manny Pacquiao. Get over it Marquez, your an excellent strong fighter but you LOST to a better man, end of story. For crying out loud stop whining and apologize for being such a sore loser. Hooyah Manny Pacquaio!

Posted on November 13, 2011 at 9:33amHey Mr. Marquez you can’t win a prize fight backing up., and you sure can’t win a prize fight when your corner is telling you, you are winning the fight when in fact you are losing.
Pacquiao did indeed win this fight, but IMO if Marquez would have been more aggressive the “Pacman Pacquiao” would have been on his back grasping for air like a fish out of water.
Mr. Marquez your corner lost you this fight, maybe your Mexican followers was throwing the cans and bottles at the wrong person or people. They should have been throwing them cans and bottles at your corner.

Posted on November 13, 2011 at 7:43pmTo each his own. I have followed boxing for over 65 years and love the sport. UFC has too much kicking and wrestling in it for my taste even though there is lots of skill and it is a tough sport. One thing I do like about UFC is that the fighters do not avoid other fighters and take it as it comes. You are probably right about a top UFC fighter could clean up a top boxer. Yeh, I think your right on that one.

Posted on November 13, 2011 at 9:55amHey Ted
Think you got mixed up a little. Both fighters are not Hispanic. Marquez (challenger) is Hispanic and Pacquiao (the champ) is Filipino. Both are welterweights but very good at what they do. Being small. rather than an overweight bar slob, has nothing to do with the sport.

Report Post »You are mostly correct, however keeping in mind that the Filipino were rulud by the Spanish for close to 300 yrs and most have hispanic sir names. While they are most assuredly asian pacific islanders, there is much hispanic blood in their lineage. My wife is Filipina and her lineage contains many names such as Martin, Ediarte, Imperial, and so on.
