Man’s Mugging of 91-Year-Old Woman Caught on Vid

A 22-year-old man is under arrest after he was caught on video mugging a 91-year-old woman just as she was about to give a large donation to her church.
The Union Leader reports:
Lt. Jim Soucy said an alert security officer at the nearby Currier Museum of Art on Beech Street caught the entire attack on video.
Joseph Audet, 22, of 335 Concord St., is charged with one count of robbery, a felony offense, Soucy said. If he’s convicted, he could serve up to seven years in prison, based on the injuries to the woman and her companion.
The victim, who asked not to be named, was on her way into St. Hedwig Catholic Church for a special 4 p.m. Mass in honor of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception Vigil. Sister Frances Marion of the church congregation said the Mass is an annual event in the largely Polish congregation; part of the tradition is to bring a special offering.
“I’m sadden [sc] and sickened,” Sister Frances, a nun at the church, told the Union Leader. “Times are tough, but all you have to ask for (is) help … To take advantage of the elderly, or of children, they’re the most vulnerable … And a lot of the elderly are frightened.”

no, but God made sure a camera caught his image, his plate number and the whole sorry incident so he can be locked up with bubba in jail and have his bunghole widened a bit. Poetic justice would be if bubba’s grandma had been mugged. What we need to do is get back to where people could beat this guy to a pulp and have the fact he committed a felony assault and robbery be used as an affermative defense against prosecution. Or make it law that if a guy like me beat this guy into a hospital for what he did the prosecutor is prohibited from prosecuting me for it. In the old days that is what would have happened. If I were a judge I would dismiss a case like that and tell the mugger to be glad he was still alive. Personally, if I see crap like this I would try and catch the guy and beat him within an inch of his life and give the lady her purse back and consequences be damned.

Suppose you were just parking your truck and cameras were watching your every move, zooming in to catch your license plate and facial features. To what degree do we turn into a surveilance society to stop crime? It’s legal to bug your car, your phone, every street has multitudes of cameras, I know for a fact that even forests have hidden cameras to catch pot growers. I guess it’s an inevitability of technology. Next in line are small hoover craft with cameras. They are already for sale, as are toy vehicles with adjustable cameras. There’s nothing that can be done about this trend of higher security but if society fails and someone is able to grab more or less absolute power, well, kiss your freedoms goodbye.

That purse snatcher is scum of the earth and I’m sure that whatever punishment he receives will fall very short of true justice. But as I was watching the video, I found it a bit disturbing how immediately the cam was zooming in on his license plate, his face, all his moves. Perhaps it is as WYOMING stated, a previously recorded wide-view image being examined via software. If not, its spooky and reminds me of a book I read as a young man. 1984. We need less cameras and more freedom-loving men and women with reliable sidearms. I wonder how many punks like him would attempt a daylight purse snatching if every other person on that sidewalk had possession and proper knowledge in the use of a .45?

I have my concealed carry lic, and hope I never have to shot someone, but don’t be fooled I will protect me and mine in a heart beat. That includes 91 year women.
