Military Recruits Gays in Tulsa As DADT Ends

With a showdown at the UN that all signs say will have a major long term impact Middle East policy, DC deep in debate and analysis of the President’s proposed “Buffet Rule,” and the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee announcing an investigation into the White House trading massive government loans for political contributions, the main stream media seemed obsessed with reporting the end of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” and a gay servicemen coming out to his father on Youtube.

Now as the mainstream media euphoria of the news in principle begins to subside, the reality of the situation is getting reported. The New York Times writes this morning from Tulsa, OK, where Marine recruiters are wasting no time in looking for recruits at one of the city’s biggest gay centers.

“The Marines were the service most opposed to ending the ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy, but they were the only one of five invited branches of the military to turn up with their recruiting table and chin-up bar at the center Tuesday morning. Although Marines pride themselves on being the most testosterone-fueled of the services, they also ferociously promote their view of themselves as the best. With the law now changed, the Marines appear determined to prove that they will be better than the Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard in recruiting gay, lesbian and bisexual service members.”

At Tulsa’s Dennis R. Neill Equality Center, recruiter Marine Master Sgt. Anthony Henry told NBC 2 that gay or straight, he is looking for a certain type of recruit.

“We’re looking for 18-24 year old males and females that are mentally, morally and physically tough.”

“There’s a segment of the population that previously we did not have access to or did not have access to us that now has the opportunity to serve their country,” Sgt. Henry went on to tell NBC 2.

Since Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell was adopted in 1993, 14,000 military members have been discharged for announcing their sexual orientation.

“This is a historic day,” said the Neil Center’s Executive Director Toby Jenkins to The Tulsa World. “I wanted to have something to commemorate it. But I also wanted our community to think about our rights and that one of our rights and responsibilities is defending our country.”

The Times reports that by 3 p.m. Tuesday only three women had wondered into the center, “none ideal recruits.” One of the three was the niece of the late benefactor of the gay rights center, who had scars up her left arm from cutting herself in high school– something that usually leads to immediate medical disqualification form the Marines.

Despite the less than overwhelming turnout of interested recruits, The Times reports that the center’s friends and members appreciated Sgt. Henry and the Marines coming to the center.

“’Toby said there were cute guys in uniform here,’ said Cecilia Wessinger, 46, a longtime friend of the center, who wandered in about 2 p.m. She thanked Sergeant Henry for coming and acknowledged that she was surprised to see him. A few hours later, Kelly Kirby, 57, a retired Air Force sergeant, thanked Captain Sipe. In the 1970s, he said, his boyfriend had been discharged from the Air Force, but he himself had not been discovered, and the memory still haunted him.”

With the end of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” all 14,000 homosexual military members that were discharged since 1993 have the opportunity to re-enlist.

    Yippie the small minority wins yet again ………we are toast folks and before anybody starts going nutty i have a gay brother so im educated about this lifestyle and gays and the military dont seem to go hand in hand if you know what i mean,if our guys and girls are not happy with this is it a good idea to piss them off? are they not stressed enough?

      None of this repeal of “DADT” coverage considers its effect on the wives of servicemen. The Uniform Code of Military Justice USED to forbid ALL sodomy (not just same sex sodomy and including oral sodomy) whether forcible or consensual. A wife could say to her serviceman husband “I would do that with you, but we both know that it would violate the UCMJ” Not anymore. She can now “consent” to an outrageously degrading practice. Her dignity is not of any worth to the progressives.

      . I can guarantee the brass has been duped into believing they must have warm bodies for their ongoing military or they will dry up and die. And the propagagandists who have scammed these fools are the same ones who fool them everytime into believing one erroneous thing after another in the pursuit of the PC agenda, until the military….like society in general…has turned into some kind of sick, perverted social engineering debacle.

      Most men are appalled at the DADT decision. While some of those now serving may give lip service to protect their careers, the VAST, VAST majority of people….mostly men….are appalled by this turn of events.

      And, most of the lower exhelon brass and a good number of the higher ups do not agree with this nonsense either, but are powerless to do anything about it, so strongly has PC stretchedf its tentacles around the West.

      I have no objection to gays in the military as long as the males are given their own barracks and the gay females are given theirs.

      That would be the only practical solution since same sex attractions and unwanted advances will be a horrendous problem that will affect military readiness. The only reason gays would object to this arrangement is because they would be denied full opportunities and access to those of their own sex

      Asking questions in a poll that is worded like, “Do you think gays should have the same rights as everybody else?” is eagerly reported by the mainstream press as giving a nod to same sex marriage, gays in the military, etc.

      But even IF the wording isnt exactly that way, people are reluctant to go on record as opposing anything that might smack even slightly of denying anyone the ability to do anything, so these polls the radicals gleefully point to are bogus and don’t reflect the truth.

      This policy is going to result in many good men opting out of military service, and illustrates the pressing need to cut back on defense expenditures to austere levels, the same as all other departments are going to have to do as the economy continues its downward spiral. With less money, the bloated department can play fewer games, and instead get down to the business of self-defense rather than social engineering.

      Indeed we do. There are upwards of 1200 self-defense militias in the country…in every state in the union…..and the Patriot Movement is still growing. It MUST be emphasized, however, to every new militia member, that no one should break the law or threaten anyone no matter how trivial, quietly sharing information, watching and waiting.

      My suggestion would be to continue growing individual units with a central networking base set up as a militia web site in order to communicate with other militia brothers and sisters at any time of the day or night anyplace in the country. Individual units are easier to control to assure everybody obeys the law, and with a centralized base the ability to have unity and numbers would be there. Also, the most current information could be shared immediately.

      In the mid-nineties the networking apparatus consisted of half a million people, with 9 million undeclared supporters. There is now the potential for 10 times that many.

    my son, 24, was waiting to see if this was going to actually happen. he has now decided for several reasons not to be a marine. he’s brave and one tough man that was wanting to be challenged by the marines. so today ill be the last in my family to have served now that this has happened. social experiments with the fabric of our nation in the time of war, and to be honest anytime, is deadly to our already declining nation. there is a reason this shouldnt happen and its morale. morale is low already for many serving and this is a slap in their face. i know a lot of people still serving and they and the people they work for are not for it. the man acting as a president now is on a mission to destroy our country. waiting on washington to take care of things is why we are in this mess. stand up peaceful but ready for what comes. bad times are coming with what ever happens in 2012. when he is defeated there will be riots and more attacks on whites. its sad to say but its true. the socialist will feed the fire thats smoldering right now until it rages out of control when he is defeated. i hope im wrong but i know im ready. are you?

      I am currently serving and I have not seen too many of the Joe’s having a problem with this. Many felt the way you and your son do when it came to integrating blacks into the military, but we survived it and we will survive this. If your son isn’t able to get over his feelings and serve the greater good, then maybe he never really wanted to serve in the first place. You say he is 24, then why has he been stalling for over 6 years now? This sounds like it is just an excuse so that he doesn’t let you down.

      Exactly, I just finished my enlistment and was interested to see what would happen when DADT was repealed. I attended a couple forums on it and while some of the other Marines had a problem with the repeal most I met really didn’t care.

    My thought is , don’t care if your gay, however if you have served in the military, you know that you take showers together, use the bathroom with no doors,etc… Why is this ok in anyones eyes, unless men and woman will now be in the same barracks now, in fact that sounds fun. In that case it would be equal, personally I don’t need a salute in the shower, sounds like a blanket party to me. Alot of people are going to get hurt and or killed. Besides I thought they were down sizing the military why are they recruiting in those areas, this whole thing is stupid, I’m sick to death of liberals and their whiney crap!

      Just because a servicemember is gay doesn’t mean he is going to come out if he or she feels they are in a hostile environment. If they think they could get beat up or worse chances are they will keep it a secret until they are in a more welcoming unit.

      My first tour in Iraq was similar to what you speak of, but it was with females who had to get dressed in front of the males and answer natures call out doors in plain view. Somehow, we were able to get along without being innappropriate. That’s the difference between a dedicated professional and an armchair quarterback. We will survive this.

    Gays have been serving in our Armed Forces since they were established. They serve in all Branches, and hold positions in some of our most elite units. From Private to Generals they will continue serving, just now they don’t have to worry about having to live a double life.       That’s not true, we can do something about it. We can elect more conservative leaders and turn this crap back to DADT. You said it yourself, they have been there forever, but no one knew, and that was good enough. Now, it’s no longer good enough, they want to flaunt it in our faces. I could not care less that a man or woman are gay, but don’t force your life style on me or ask me to recognize your deviant behavior, as normal. I don’t come at this from a religious angle, I simply recognize that nature decided these things long ago.
      The part about living a double life; what a cop out. Everyone has things that they think and maybe do that they would not want everybody else to know about, so they keep it secret. Thing is that most folks can contain these improper urges, out front gay people can’t.

      don’t know what you mean by “they want to flaunt it in our faces”. It isn’t like they will be redesigning the uniform in hot-pink. They aren’t going to rape anyone in the showers. No, I think that things will go on as usual. Those that do anything will be those bigots just looking for a ‘reason’ to “beat a *** cause was look’n at me funny in the shower”.

      There are regulation that govern the conduct of a service member while in uniform. You aren’t going to see to guys slipping each other tongue, dry humping each other, or playing grab-ass in formation. No, like I said before, nothing will change. Our military will still be the worlds finest…though some of the youth today need a little bit of an attitude adjustment.

      I agree Macpappy! The goal of a group of soldiers in combat is to function as a single cohesive unit. That’s why they all wear the same uniform. Individual expression is not something to be celebrated in the armed services– go become an artist if that’s your thing. By emphasizing an individual soldiers ‘sexual preference’ it’s in direct conflict to a group moving as one. DADT keeps things at a professional level, and keeps the straight soldier focused on doing his job, rather than wondering if his buddy the foxhole is going to grope him in the middle of combat.

    This is not good for the Corps or any of the other branches. but the day of open squad bays is over as well. When i was in open squad bays was the norm for infantry and the gays were weeded out quick. most went to the First Sgt. and confessed or their boyfriends ratted them out. others were found either committing an act or alcohol gave them loose tongues and normally were met with extreme violence which of coarse meant NJP or a court martial for the individuals involved. Sad but true. Then again gay’s tend to pry on very young men just walk down mission street watch them pull over and ask young marines “hey I know where There’s a Party with allot of Women their Want to go?” they will slip a young man a mickey or ruffie’s then film them for profit. really screw’s the young mans head real bad. but hey. they will never admit it unless the film show’s up somewhere and the go before a admin discharge.

      I’ve read a lot of the Bible. I don’t believe that it’s really the word of God and meant as the book of rules for all people everywhere forever. It’s full of outdated health regulations, prescribes cruel and excessive punishments, and never says that it’s wrong to keep other humans as slaves. This leads me to conclude that it’s nothing but the words of flawed humans intended for the people of the time and place it was written. I do value the teachings of Jesus, whether he was really a God, or just a guy who had a little bit better idea of what a God would be like than the bad liars who wrote the rest of the Bible, but as I’m sure March4him and you both know, Jesus never said he had anything against the gays.
