Marine, Wife Beaten by Teen Mob Outside Movie

A Marine — on leave from Afghanistan — and his wife were attacked outside a Florida theater after the couple asked an unruly group of teenagers to quiet down during a film showing. After the manager kicked the teens out, the couple left frustrated. That’s when the teenagers jumped the man and his wife, even punching the woman in the face and knocking her out:

“I got back up to defend myself and they started running everywhere,” Frederico Freire [the Marine] told the paper, adding that he saw one of the teens — shirtless — punch his wife in the face, knocking her out, as she tried to get to safety.

A witness brandished a gun in an attempt to break up the mayhem and deputies soon arrived.

Four teens and one adult were arrested and about 300 bystanders had gathered by the end of the incident. As deputies tried to restore order, the movie theater manager had to shut down the facility — and dole out thousands of dollars in refunds to patrons.

Freire and his wife were not seriously injured, but he said he considered filing lawsuits against his attackers and the theater for failing to provide adequate security.

According to the local ABC News affiliate, the wife claims officers had to use tasers to subdue the crowd.

      I agree, the breakdown of the family is the microcosm of the breakdown of the country (macrocosm). Society is a true reflection of the family.
      That‘s why it’s so important for the socialists to have people be alone and then only attached to the govt… Breaking down the family has been the goal for decades. And having single moms dependent on the govt is playing right into their hands as well.

This is the end result of unruly teens that have no respect, no morals, no regard for the law and the worse their behavior the more pleased they are with themselves and in many, many cases the parents are no different. The Marine is absolutely correct in why are they putting their lives on the line? Oh but don’t forget we must give them a second chance, hold them up to be praised!!!!     I would bet not one of the attackers have any education and probablly treat the parent, I”m sure they only have one, that way also, I wonder what nationaly and or color the attackers were? I know the man, like he said wonders why he is even putting his life on the line, to protect the freedom of scumbags like this,They probably will be released because they are under 18, they should go ahead and lock them up for life now, because they will only continue until they do kill others, probablly many others,Things like this make me so angry!!!       Actually, I have had a grown man hit me in the head and though I ultimately ended up in the hospital I was able to some damage of my own. My point is that I didn‘t and wouldn’t curl up in a ball and take my licks. I would go down swinging.

      Of course, now I‘m packing so the next time it happens it won’t be me who ends up in the hospital.

      SECURITY SUGGESTION

      Carry Hornet stray. It’s legal and more effective than Mace. Also has a greater effective range.
      Sounds twisted just to go to a movie, but Hornet Spray is a great defense tool.
      Women should carry it in their purses to the Mall, etc.

      I have a NY Concealed Carry Permit. (25 plus years)
      The law states ‘ equal deadly force’. Very wide undesratnding and application.

      I agree with you when discipline is not meeted out in a timely manner and effectively then children grow up with the entitlement attitude. I did it as a child I can do it as an adult, this “theory” that teens should not be held to adult laws is very flawed even third world countries don’t follow that line of thinking. They treat teens as the adults they are and when you move from childhood to adulthood is at about 11-13years of age etc.

      Generally about the time they hit Junior High/Grammar School is when they loose the child label in our minds even as parents.

      Yes, theaters have a responsibility to deliver a safe, enjoyable movie atmosphere. These companies need to send in an attendant at the beginning of the film and warn everyone that if anything disrupts the movie experience, they will be removed! There is a movie chain in Los Angeles that does just that…there is NEVER a sound from the audience once the movie starts.

      Other theater chains are just to stupid, or lazy to take care of the problem. They are probably run by democrats that don’t want to offend anyone, but end up driving away quality patrons instead.

      I carry a gun, legally. I have for 10 years. Things like this don’t happen to me and my family. There have been a few instances that some wanted to cause trouble but suddenly realized the consequences outweighed the reward.       Cobra, slow down. In this situation if the Marine brandished a weapon and started shooting, he’d be in jail. The theater is responsible for maintaining order inside their buildings. Many of us (or even most) have seen that theater managers have become more and more lax over the years as the teenage market is a significant source of their revenue. They allow a lot of disruption to occur before they step in. As a result, teens have become more brazen.

      Suing the teens is not productive. But, filing a lawsuit against the theater management may be the only way to turn the tide which currently gives teens the impression that nobody will stop their incessant heckling while a movie is being played.

      Hey Folks….Continue to pass the buck saying its someone else’s responsibility for your safety.. I hope that vendors will respond by doing their part (within reason), but in case they don’t I choose to be prepared by practicing self-reliance. And..heaven forbid something happens I assure you my knee jerk reaction want be a lawsuit. We use lawsuits as a crutch for everything that happens to us. Let someboby else fix the problem. I also think failing to defend one’s self because of the threat of jail is not a valid reason NOT to defend yourself and your family from a threat. I will take my chances when acting using good judgement at that moment based on the potential threat to be judged by 12 of my piers. Feel free to sue everyone if you so choose.

      Most of the movie theaters in our area have posted rules that prohibit carrying guns in the theater. Of course I ignore that because the law is clear that I can carry with my license and the theater’s prohibition is a company policy, not a law. As a fat, pre-geezer with no hand-to-hand defensive skills I would have two choices: Take a beating or draw and fire. I just can’t see choosing the former.

      Well, you guys attacking the original poster have no idea of law. The Movie Theater is only responsible for accidents that happen on their property. So it is wise to provide security, but not manditory. From the looks of this, it happened outside on public property. So it is not the Movie theatre’s fault and their security would have had no right or authority to prevent or stop it.

      Thank God they were not hurt worse off than a few hits, I am also imagining if the teens are of a minority group the Marine will be facing Federal Civil Rights charges soon. These teens most likely will just get off scott free due to some bleeding heart judge and attorneys claiming they are ‘Not understood, have bad homes, etc….”

      These teens need to understand what discipline and responsibility for ones actions means.

      OZZ I have to agree with you…our kids have certainly taken a turn for the worse…and mostly due to this fact…no momma at home…my husband and I decided a long time ago that I would stay home and raise our kids…didn’t make as much money…but we were raising our kids…now I’m not so stupid as to think everyone can do this…but if you possibly can..I recommend it…

      God I wish I had been there… hadn’t been in a good brawl with a Brother Marine in a long time. Would have been so EPIC to stand back to back with him and send those “kids” to get their “obama-care” on in the local emergency room. All it would have taken was one more dedicated a rage-filled Marine there to handle that. I PRAY he dislocated a jaw or two before he was subdued…

      MAN WITH A GUN SAVES COUPLE FROM POTENTIAL MURDER FROM A BUNCH OF THUGS THAT BELONG IN PRISON, BUT THERE IS NOT ENOUGH BEDS FOR VIOLENT OFFENDERS BECAUSE THE MANDITORY SENTENCES FOR DRUG DEALERS AND GROWERS MANDATES THEY ARE A HIGHER PRIORITY THEN VIOLENT OFFENDERS.     I believe if you defend someone under attack there are no repercussions.
    I would also think that the Marine did not expect to be attacked because they are taught hand to hand combat against mulitple assailants in boot camp.

    Um not unless you want to go to jail for murder. Now if the couple were in fear of their lives or you as an armed citizen witness a weapon or a deadly threat then by all means take out that threat, but you go shooting into a crowd of unruly teens and you are going to prison for the rest of your life. If a Police Officer can’t shoot into a crowd to scare them then what makes you think you can?

    For those of you that Carry a firearm on a daily basis please educate yourselves on the law and TRAIN with your sidearm. We carry to be a benefit to society and protect our families not to “Shoot into crowds”

    @Seawolf FL has the “Castle Doctrine” If you have reasonable fear for someone’s life you have the right to use lethal force. As it turned out no one was seriously injured but with one man on the ground and several people kicking him that is a good enough reason. With one well placed blow to the head he could have been killed and then you would be saying why didn’t someone shoot. there was a case where someone was simply approaching a car with a bat (no assault happened) and the driver shot and killed him. She got no time because he was approaching in a threatening manner and screaming at her, she had reasonable fear for her life.

    Also I have had to pull my firearm as defense because of a threatening crowd and was informed later by the P.D. that I would have had every right to fire into the crowd.

    A cop has a higher limit on what he has to take versus a citizen. No, a citizen can’t start shooting into a crowd and if you read right, you will see that the citizen did not shoot into the crowd nor did anyone state that they should do that. What is being stated is that a shooting should have been conducted on the teens attacking the family and it would have been justified, as Florida law allows for defense of self and others. Geez, some of you people really can’t follow simple logic in these posts.

    ummm, seawolf, wrong! At least not in my great state, if you come upon someone being assaulted you have the right to come their defense, using deadly force, also if you encounter a robbery, you have that same right, or if you are being assaulted, you have that right as well.

    No, don’t make martyrs of the teens. If someone had shot them, there would be weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth. Better yet, send the teens to Marine boot camp. They’ll think twice or three times when the live rounds are coming in their directions.

    I have taken the American Express motto for my Glock, Never Leave Home Without IT.. I felt strange the 1st time I went to the bank standing in line I realized I had it on my side (conceled) but here in Az. no even cares as they maybe packin too. it is not the metal that kills it is the flesh behind the trigger. Never had to display it, AND hope NEVER to have too, but i am not going down without a fight!! especially here in the Front Lines..
