Martial Arts Expert Banned From Entering the UK: ‘He Teaches Extreme and Violent Self-Defense That is Unwelcome Here’

Self Defense Expert Tim Larkin Banned by the UK Home Office Because of Fears of Violence, Vigilantism

Tim Larkin, a successful self-defense instructor, has been banned from entering the U.K. because, in the words of MP Rosie Cooper: “He teaches extreme and violent self-defense that is unwelcome [in Britain].”

One of Larkin’s philosophies, according to the Telegraph, is: “violence is rarely the answer, but when it is, it’s the only answer.”  His website elaborates:

The truth is… your best self defense in a life-or-death confrontation is injuring the other guy. And it’s the one thing that makes us so different.

Because, when you…

  • Try to keep yourself from being stabbed – you’ll get stabbed.
  • Try to avoid being shot – and you’ll get shot.

It’s the dirty little secret every predator knows but no one in the self defense world talks about.

When facing violence on the street today, the only thing guaranteed to get you out alive is injuring your assailant.

Larkin was planning on teaching a number of seminars in the London-area, particularly in Tottenham, where the worst of the riots were located last summer.  He was also due to be the keynote speaker at the Martial Arts Show in Birmingham on the 12th and 13th of May.

“It’s a gross overreaction, especially with some of the people who are allowed to come in and out of the UK,” Larkin commented to the BBC.

“There are those rare, rare black swan occasions – like the riots – where law-abiding citizens are put in situations where they are facing grievous bodily harm and they hesitate because they are afraid of being prosecuted. That is a very real thing,” he explained.

Even British citizens are seemingly finding the exclusion order a little ridiculous, with the story being featured in the Daily Mail, the Telegraph, the Guardian, and the BBC.

But is there something more to the story?  Or has the Home Office decided that they overreacted?

At this point, it seems they’ve actually doubled-down.

Larkin’s presence is “not conducive to the public good” and could encourage vigilantism, a Home Office representative declared.  MP Cooper added: “I would [like] to thank the member of the public who alerted me to the threat that Mr. Larkin poses.”

Tim Larkin, on the other hand, believes he is being penalized for criticizing the Britain’s self-defense laws. 

“I am not advocating that the UK should be like the US.  What I am advocating is that the UK should go back to laws it had, prior to 1920,” he clarified.  Prior to 1920, there were far fewer gun-control laws in Britain.

This leaves many asking: is Larkin‘s story just the equivalent of Britain’s gun-control crowd going too far, or is there validity to the claim that self-defense training leads to increased violence?  And if America’s gun-control crowd succeeds in villainizing firearms– will basic self-defense be next?

      There is a lot to say about this!

      Its not Mr. Larkin, its what he represents and that is self empowerment which flys in the face of the all knowing and socalled just government model that says never ever take matters into your own hands. This is not designed to keep people from being victims, they could care less about the average man or woman on the street, no…its about dumbing you down and reducing you to a sniveling weakling and in that you never represent a real threat to their rule. Can you imagine hundreds of combat trained civilians who’s only goal is to take care of their own in the face of excalating violence around them? This is what they fear the most, a population eventually realizing the Bobbies have lost control and now its up to the people to defend their own lives and property.

      Look at how many crimes happen in this country against innocent, uninformed, ill trained, pacified minions who believe all they need to do in a situation is call 911 and then get a lawyer. When the 20 year old broke into the elderly home of WWII vet who was 90 and beat him to death and raped his 84 year old wife, he did it because he had no fear of repercussions, no fear because they presented an easy target, then look at the Korean vet the other day who defended his life against another young killer from just across the street who came for trouble with a tazer and screw driver (i think) and he was promptly shot by the home owner with no second thoughts.

      we have close to no gun crimes in britain . in 2009 there were 0.07 recorded intentional homicides committed with a firearm per 100,000 inhabitants; for comparison, the figure for the United States was 3.0, about 40 times higher. FORTY TIMES!! and we’re the stupid ones???!?!?!

      in 2008 there were, wait for it… 42 deaths from guns in the uk! FORTY TWO. in the same year the number in the usa is estimated to be between 25,000-30,000!!!

      please don’t call us *******, because we don’t like guns. i have plenty of knives lying around my house. and i would have no problem using one.

      this story is stupid. i agree that this is a ridiculous case. but trust me in britain we are far from happy with whats going on right now. but britain has been here for 20000 years and it will be here for 20000 more. i bet less then 1% of you who think you know what its like in the uk have ever been here. trust me its worse in america right now. we’re moving away from socialism, you’re moving towards it.

      Nothing extreme about this guy’s training. He is right on the mark. I know lots of martial arts instructors in Britain that teach more extreme techniques and philosophies than this guy. The British government is a lost cause. Ours is not to far behind. Like fruit, ripe for the picking.

      The fact is , guns keep people safe. Gun free zones do not work. Why? Because criminals don’t give a d amn about the law, so they will carry anyways. Just because the US has higher incidents with homicides involving guns doesn’t mean gun “laws” work. Who are the people committing these crimes? the criminals…!! Good honest, law abiding people don’t use their guns to hurt others. So law or no law criminals will always get guns and use them to harm others. So the only thing gun laws do is keep the good people from protecting themselves.

      I agree with you 100% we are headed toward socialism, tyranny, etc. In fact, it’s been here for a while now.

      as i said, in 2009 there were between 25000 and 30000 murders in the us using guns (compared to 42 in the uk). id bet the majority were innocent people. the right to bare arms didn’t help any of these people. guns make killing way too easy.

      in britain theres a minimum prison sentence of 5 years for possession of a gun. more often then not they get the maximum ten year sentence. thats without even using it. i feel safer knowing that. all we ever hear about are the constant school massacres in america, the police shootouts, the crazy gangs spraying kids with bullets in drive-bys. having guns didn’t protect the innocent children.

      if we lived in a civil world, id be well up for legalising guns, but we don’t, for every civil person using a gun for protection, there is some dangerous thug with a uzi. no thanks.

      That sentence is utterly stupid. You throw a non-violent person in jail for simply wanting to protect himself? That does not have a valid cause of action. That’s one of the reasons we left and came across the pond…tyranny like that. Sadly, America is headed down a path of tyranny.

      You’re not understanding. The peaceful people aren’t the ones using the guns! The criminals ALREADY have the guns. A piece of paper or a law (an opinion) does not in any way keep people safe. You just said it yourself. It makes you FEEL safe. People would rather feel safe than actually be safe. Government uses this to control people.

      I live in Virginia; it’s an open carry state meaning if you’re 21, not a convicted felon and display the gun with nothing covering it you can carry. I also have my concealed carry permit, so I conceal and open carry.

      If someone wanted to harm you, how would protect yourself? You‘re telling me people don’t h ave a God given right to protect themselves? One of the ways to protect yourself (the best way) is to carry. America’s founders (thank God for them) knew the fact that guns protect people and no one, no man or government has any right whatsoever to take them away.

      Something else you have to understand is that with more freedom there will be slightly more crime. That’s just the nature of freedom, people will take advantage of that. But is it really worth becoming tyrannical to have slightly more safety? Yeah, I could have 1% crime in a dictator/tyrannical system controlling everyone all the time..but that’s not freedom, that’s a horrible life. I’d pick freedom any day.

    Are they serious? What did they think he was going to teach them? Singing lessons? Offer a terrorist a Coke and a smile? Terrorist etiquette? How to ask a terrorist to stop the homicidal insanity… politely?
    I’m sure Osama would have been pleased with this decision, but Seal Team Six had the only appropriate response.
    I stopped a bar fight once by putting the aggressor in an armlock. I even protected the aggressor from retaliation while I had him immobilized (It‘s not an easy task trying to hold a big guy who’s trying to get loose and protect him from the victim simultaneously)… peaceful methods generally won’t work with homicidal maniacs.

The first winner of History Channel’s Top Shot, who is from the UK, said one reason he left was the mentality of UK leadership that led to the banning of firearms.     Truly ironic and embarrassing for the Brits to have snooty, peabrained MPs dictating things like this, considering:

    1) Seals like Mr. Larkin spend their careers not just protecting America, but hunting down terrorists that want to destroy Britain too (remember 7/7??);
    2) Americans have sacrificed untold amounts of time, treasure, blood and trauma to save Europe, particularly Britain, in the course of two World Wars we did not even start;
    3) The primacy of ‘violent self defense’ as practiced by Winston Churchill and the Royal Air Force in 1940 were the ONLY thing that saved Britain from the Nazi hordes in 1940.

    MP Cooper would benefit materially from deftly (and with a slight twisting motion) removing her head from her spacious arse and actually reading the history of her country.

    Larkin’s spirit is a little off.. so actually the fighting is a little off..

    Systema encourages strength, courage and humility.

    Systema employs the least amount of violence to the opponent necessary to overcome.

    Systema is rooted in Russian Christian Orthodoxy.

    It’s for the mature warrior spirit, or one who has a warrior spirit but needs maturity.

    Systema is excellent spirit/body/soul work for Special Force or Military service, which can sometimes damage the psyches of men and women. Systema helps prepare the person going into combat, throughout the combat experience and afterward.

    The four principles of Systema are a) breathing, b) relaxation, c) posture and d) movement.

    So far, England has allowed Systema instruction. The people of the U.K. are a tough people. And they are a thinking people.

    “The Independent” reports that Tim Larkin was “excluded from Britain because his presence was not conducive to the public good.“ The reasoning was that since ”his approach to self-defence, …teaches victims to attack and injure to fend off assault” it would not be appreciated in Tottenham where the UK riots were at their worst. Hey, Cr@ckers, do you remember the UK riots? That was when all of the d@rkies in the UK robbed the tolerant and raped the open-minded Cr@ckers like you.

    Here is the punchline: Another self-defense art which is CURRENTLY taught regularly in the UK already does teach the victim to fend off an assault by inflicting injury. In fact, this particular martial art is SO AGGRESSIVE that it does not even have a sporting element i.e. no friendly tournaments and therefore NO NON-AGGRESSIVE TECHNIQUES. This UK-approved art exists only to injure or even kill. This art is taught ACROSS THE UK and according to its website “classes run every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 7.30 at Fitness First Tottenham Court Road”. Tottenham?

    The punchline? The UK-approved martial art is called Krav Maga which is an Israeli Military and Special Forces set of combatives invented by a Jewish man named Imi Lichtenfeld. So let‘s cut the crap and have the UK lefties tell us what is the REAL REASON they won’t let the aryan looking Tim Larkin into their commie-country?

    2. don’t reach for a gun, you don’t own one – they’ve been banned. You’re British, remember?
    3. lie still
    4. allow the assailant to do his thing while you wait for police to arrive.
    5. tell the police everything that happened, but don’t mention race, foreign languages, or any references to Allah used during the attack. You may need to write these facts down, since it’s possible your throat has been slit for the good of Islam.

      you are right about one thing, britiain is a few years ahead of you in terms government involvement in your life. but weve got to the point were the majority of the population dont want this anymore. and the politicians are starting to take notice.

      america will go through exactly what we’re going through right now, even if its in 5/10 years. and you will be asking us brits how we got through it. i actually feel like in america, things will be 10x worse.

    Why the British are quite capable of defending themselves very well simply by spitting some of their rotten teeth out at an assailant. The smell of those foul teeth would render the attacker instantly unconscious and the dental decay, should it land on bare skin, would instantly kill the assailant.

      the british beat the germans back on our own in ww2, have you ever heard of the battle of britain? without britain america would have had nowhere to launch their attack from, learn your history.

    In a fight for your life there should be only one winner and it ain’t the other guy. If at all possible a fight should never last more than a few seconds. Conventional Karate doesn’t teach this. Combat Karate or Jujutsu does. You take the fight to the attacker and take them out of the equasion. What he is teaching is survivail.
