Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray is being called a hero today after he pulled two kids from a burning minivan. But it‘s a rescue that almost didn’t happen after the childrens’ guardian thought the Lt. Gov. was trying to kidnap them.
From NECN:
According to the Worcester Telegram and Gazette, the former mayor noticed smoke coming from a car at the intersection of Main and Henshaw streets.
He ran over to take a look, and was told there were two kids inside. Murray managed to get the kids out safely moments before one of the tires burst into flames.
Firefighters quickly put out the fire.
But Murray’s actions nearly got him a punch in the face. The children’s grandmother originally thought he was trying to kidnap the children.
And that’s not just hyperbole. Murray told the Associated Press the grandmother admitted she was actually “about to punch him.” Murray is set to be inaugurated for his second term tomorrow.

Posted on January 5, 2011 at 12:56pmLet’s leave his occupation. his past and future out of it. He got involved and took action despite possible risk to himself. The bomb in times square was discovered because of smoke coming from a car, so it could have been something more dangerous than a burning tire. Bless him.

Posted on January 5, 2011 at 9:55amawesome! this will hopefully make the grandma think twice before leaving the kids in the car again. if she would have been gone a few minutes longer she could have come come out to a tragic scene of burning children. not to mention that the Lt.gov. had enough time to get the kids out of the car. if that would have been real kidnappers they would have gotten her grandchildren, and she wouldn’t have been able to stop it from happening. i’m not too down on grandma cuz we all make bad decisions some times, but i bet this one will come to mind every time the kids are in the car with her. the best outcome possible. what a blessing.

Posted on January 5, 2011 at 9:50amMayor of Boston Curley a few years back was told of the death of his stepson. His response? “Well that should sew up the election”. Truth of the matter is that a burning mini van is bad for the environment. The kids just got in the way of putting out the fire and had to be moved.

Posted on January 5, 2011 at 9:46amHere in Massachusetts, we call him the Pillsbury Doughboy. Grandma had a point – This is Willie Horton Massachusetts where we release sex offenders with no regard for the public, so there was a good chance anyone trying to take your kids might be one.

Posted on January 5, 2011 at 9:22amOh, indeed. I was more thinking what was going thru her mind…
“Here you go, lady, I pulled your kids from that burning van.”
“Oh, thank you! What’s your name?”
“Tim Murray.”
Sure, it doesn’t follow the storyline, but it’s funny to think about.
Definitely a courageous act. We should all emulate that.

Posted on January 5, 2011 at 10:05amThis is a good story; to see the problem and jump in to help without though of his own safety is outstanding; and I also can see the grandmothers side as well, her first concern was for the kids.
Good cheers to all of them, and thanks to the Almighty the kids were saved.

Posted on January 5, 2011 at 10:25amsounds like a publicity stunt, with all the bad press of letting a felon serving a triple life sentence out on parole after 14 years, then he killed a cop in a jewelery store robbery

Posted on January 6, 2011 at 1:12amNo, he is a hero!! How many of us would reach a smoking car and get two kids out – I would hope all of us but that’s not likely – so in my book, he is a hero!! http://wp.me/pYLB7-uK
