SANAA, Yemen (AP / THE BLAZE) — Yemeni doctors say at least 31 people have been killed by security forces who opened fire on an anti-government demonstration in the Yemeni capital and that dozens have been wounded.
The death toll is among the highest in the month of violence that has shaken Yemen with protesters demanding President Ali Abdullah Saleh step down.
The tribal leader above has this message for the president: “We implore you to leave Yemen and let the Yemenis decide their future.”
Government forces and pro-government thugs have used live fire in an increasingly deadly crackdown.
Police started shooting at the protesters rallying outside the Sanaa University from rooftops and nearby houses as demonstrators filled the square after Friday prayers.
The two doctors who gave the toll spoke on condition of anonymity fearing reprisals. They work at a makeshift hospital at the protesters’ encampment near Sanaa University.

Posted on March 19, 2011 at 1:46amMr. Bush’s, I mean Obama’s reason for intervening in Libya:
Report Post »“Left unchecked, we have every reason to believe that Gadhafi would commit atrocities against his people,” he said. “Many thousands could die. A humanitarian crisis would ensue. The entire region could be destabilized, endangering many of our allies and partners. The calls of the Libyan people for help would go unanswered. The democratic values that we stand for would be overrun.”
What will be his reason when it comes time to intervene in Yemen? Then Bahrain? Then Syria?

Posted on March 18, 2011 at 11:29amEven in the Non-Muslim world, revolution rarely results in more rights and freedom?
In Gaza, Lebanon and Iran elections did not end bigotry, free women or stop murder in the name of Allah
Freedom means something else in Islam
Islam is not just a religion, but a political system as well
Hundreds of thousands of black Africans have been slaughtered in the name of Islam explicitly because of their race over the last five years, yet the world hasn’t noticed, or this is now expected behavior.

Posted on March 18, 2011 at 11:04amYemeni needs to sink below the waves – or the same result however accomplished. One of the worst breeding grounds for terrorists next to Iran and Afghanistan. REally folks – the Persian Gulf region is going “nuclear”. Does the US have a role to play? Sure – stay the hell out of it and spend the $$ we would on having our Air force, Navy, etc gihting to develop our own oi, natural gas, coal, etc beyond any need to import beyond Mexico and Canada. The only thing we do is same as Israel did to Syria nd what we should to with Iran – you build nuclear plant, we bomb it back to sand!

Posted on March 18, 2011 at 10:29amThis is very disheartening, considering that we have allied with this government for years now in our neverending ‘war on terror’. But that has been US policy for decades now, supporting horribly repressive regimes, such as Yemen, Libyia, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Egypt, as long as they have promoted our ‘interests’. Then we have to spend large amounts of money and sacrifice some US Soldiers to fight these people when they turn on us, which all could have been avoided if we had not allied with these people in the first place.

Posted on March 18, 2011 at 11:14amWhere is Obama? Shouldn’t he be telling President Ali Abdullah Saleh to step down like he did with Egypt and Libya? Oh, that’s right, Obama typically waits to see which way the political winds are blowing before he makes a statement and only after the press makes such an issue of his inaction that he feels he has to take some type of action. Being that this has been escalating for 30 days and it is being reported on more now…wait for it….just wait for it….“a statement by the President will be coming out shortly about Yemin”.
