Wild Video: Tornadoes in Dallas Send Semis Flying Through the Air

DALLAS (The Blaze/AP) — Tornadoes tore through the Dallas area on Tuesday, tearing roofs off homes, tossing trucks into the air and leaving flattened tractor trailers strewn along highways and parking lots.

Tornadoes Hit Dallas Fort Worth Area Damage Reported

The National Weather Service confirmed at least two separate “large and extremely dangerous” tornadoes in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Several other developing twisters were reported as a band of violent storms moved north through the metropolitan area. Officials had no immediate information about injuries.

Tornadoes Hit Dallas Fort Worth Area Damage Reported

Footage from highway video cameras showed a large, dark funnel cloud moving on the ground not far from a major interstate early Tuesday afternoon. Crumpled orange tractor trailers were later visible in a Dallas County parking lot, as well as flattened trailers along the sides of highways and access roads.

In Lancaster, south of Dallas, local television footage showed homes without roofs while other buildings were flattened. Plywood was strewn on the grass and on top of buildings. Residents could be seen walking down the street with firefighters and peering into homes, looking at the damage after the storm passed.

Officials had no immediate information about injuries. Some YouTube videos showing the twisters have started to surface. One shows semis flying through the air as the storm hits:

The storm pushed cars into fences and toppled trees. Branches and limbs were scattered across lawns and in the streets. A tow-behind RV was torn apart and crumpled in a driveway where part of a roof of the home was torn off.

“Obviously we’re going to have a lot of assessments to make when this is done,” Dallas County spokeswoman Maria Arita told The Associated Press.

Dallas Police spokeswoman Sherri Jeffrey said an apparent twister also touched down and caused damage within the city’s southern limits, though the extent was not immediately known.

DFW Airport spokesman David Magana told WFAA-TV that airport employees pulled passengers away from glass windows and into inside areas of the airport as the storms moved through.

“We did see some heavy rain at this point we do expect to have number of flights diverted and canceled,” Magana said. “We do not have any damage reports at the airport that I am aware of.”

WFAA-TV in Dallas shows the weather maps, which indicate massive storms:

A spokeswoman for the Lancaster school district spokeswoman said officials did not immediately know of any damage to schools. Leslie Johnston, spokeswoman for Arlington Independent School District, in between Dallas and Fort Worth, said all schools there had students take shelter and several schools reported power outages.

The weather service said “considerable damage” also was reported in a rural Johnson County, south of Fort Worth.

You can watch live coverage here. The storms continue to ravage the area, with more tornadoes still a possibility.

This is a breaking story. Updates will be added.

“move to Texas everybody. It’s awesome.”

No Thanks, I’ll stay here in the Stalinist State of New York where are tractor trailers stay on the ground.

In all seriousness though, I hope everyone is ok down there.

I am right between Dallas and Fort Worth when it happened. Luckily I do not think to many people got hurt or died. Those tractor trailers flying in the air like that could of been very bad. We hardly ever get tornadoes in the city. So never say never in NY. This has been a weird winter and I think this spring/summer will reflect on that.

I will be sure to include the fine people of Texas in my prayers and would request that the fine people of the Blaze do the same.

Why is one an ‘idiot’ for living in a particular place? If that’s where one grows up then all the power to them. He/she may live among the Stalinist but hopefully he/she is not one. I don’t bash Texas, so don’t you dare start bashing other states and bring up this crap about seceding. Hell, you guys can’t even get a complete border fence up and here you are talking about fence surrounding the entire state.

Tornadoes came and no one died. Let‘s celebrate that instead of acting like a liberal and trashing other people’s dwellings.

Sorry @goahead makemyday, but New York (City especially), DOES GET HURRICANES. The Island of Manhattan is in the Atlantic. Some of the storms that hit further up in the mid-Atlantic, then hug the coast and it NY and New England. Hasn’t happened bad for a number of years now, but there is a potential for extreme flooding, wind damge and lose of many lives!

I’ll stay here in rural upstate NY–we’re in the “snow belt,“ but we have warning of bad storms and just ”hunker down” and stay warm and well fed while we wait for it to pass!

Pray that Texas was protected in God’s hand, and know that neighbors will be helping neighbors–the American Way!

      God Bless!

Just how long will 0bama take to offer federal assistance and declare this a federal emergency. Hopefully, they can take care of themselves, but I really do expect 0bama to politicize the situation and with hold assistance to such a red state.

The effect that HAARP has on the weather was discovered by mistake. The Soviets developed an “over the horizon radar” using high frequency waves. When they turned it on a high pressure system developed off the coast of California and caused a drought. American scientists figured out what it was that caused this and built one of their own. Using an array of antennas they can focus the wave energy on a certain area.

With that said, I believe that you should not be so quick to judge what someone else does in a situation.
