Massive Waves Rock Antarctic Cruise Ship

BUENOS AIRES (AP) — Officials say an Antarctic cruise ship with 160 passengers aboard has lost an engine in high seas, but is limping safely to its scheduled port.

The Argentine Navy says the Clelia II is heading for the port of Ushuia at the extreme south of the country at 4 knots (about 5 mph). It says all passengers are safe and it is being accompanied by an Argentine naval vessel.

The ship declared an emergency on Tuesday when it was northeast of the Shetland Islands and about 500 miles (845 kilometers) from Ushuaia. The ship set out from Ushuaia on Nov. 30 and was scheduled to return on Wednesday.

The “Arctic” “Antarctic” sloppiness is pure Blaze–the clip does it correctly.

Polar Bears do not live in the Antarctic.

I’ve been on two cruises to Alaskan waters, there was no organized gambling apparent, no sex and wildness visible–the three bars were pretty much unoccupied, the “lounge” occupied only when lecturers were holding sway.

And that ship, by comparison, is very large.

But facts are not important here, are they?

Actually, the error originates with NBC. They incorrectly labled the clip, and the Blaze just copied their lable. They could have caught it, but who cares? Really, it’s a non-story.

Yeah, this is MILDLY interesting.Or perhaps it would be more accurate to say it was BARELY intersting.

Really, I can’t see the newsworthiness of this story from any angle unless it is a pretext to make stupid political points. Unless you knew some one on this ship why would you care? And would you care that much, since nothing really bad happened? “Ooooh, a tragedy ALMOST happened, or I can imagine it almost happening.”

In other “news” an airliner encountered some really bad turbulence. No one was injured or anything, but it was pretty scary for a while. Also, Franco is still dead.

Thanks for your service USN, . My home port is New London,Ct across from EB. Most day’s when sailing I am passed by Fast Attack subs from the Groton Base. It’s thrilling to see them scream by . Adding to the thrill is sailing by the Eagle , the USCG training ship.. Got some great pictures of the first time the CG cadets were climbing the ratlines. Merry Christmas

No, somebody said “can’t take a hike”. If I were to travel to, say, Alaska I wouldn’t want to cruise there. I’d love to hike there, hunt there, camp there, fish there, but cruising there would be silly (to me).

You go for the experience. I went on a cruise to Progresso/Cozumel, and besides the shopping and lying on the beach, the experience on the ship itself, the dining, the humility of staring across a huge ocean and realizing how insignificant we really are, that is what makes it worthwhile. Good grief! I swear you people are living in your mom‘s basements DVR’ing Glenn Beck’s shows and eating cheetos.

What is it with progressives and the constant need to belittle, sneer and insult? I mean seriously, can you have a civil conversation with somebody who doesn’t subscribe to your ideology, or is that simply impossible?

And for the record, I said a cruise in the Antarctic (or Arctic), not “get out and see the world”. I suspect that my passport(s) have more stamps in them over the years than yours, so don’t try and pull a Captain Worldly on me bro.

And why one would want to feel insignificant is beyond me. When I see the ocean, I consider how amazing human beings are that we routinely take holidays featuring bikinis, drinks and good food on what was once the most treacherous frontier on the planet.

Can somebody, anybody really, explain the allure to me of taking a cruise around the arctic region? You get all the disadvantages of a ship (stuck on board most of the time, can’t walk around or hike, sea sickness, cold of the water, can’t hunt), combined with all the disadvantages of a freezing cold location.

So you see a whale? Big whoop. Send me to Curaçao instead.
