Matthews Lashes Out at Schieffer and Chamber of Commerce: ‘Is That the Best You Can Do?’

When Bob Schieffer challenged David Axelrod demanded proof of the Obama Administration’s foreign-interest, money laundering accusations against the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, MSNBC’s Christ Matthews took notice. And he didn’t like it.
“Is that the best that you can do?” Matthews wondered aloud on his Tuesday show. But he doesn’t stop there. As NewsBusters points out, he even seems to hint that the Chamber is “intentionally increasing unemployment in this nation while harming the economy”:
In response to the accusations against the Chamber, on Thursday Glenn Beck called on his listeners to break fundraising records for the Chamber.
“I would like this to be the largest day of fundraising for the Chamber of Commerce ever,” Beck said. While calling for action on air Thursday morning, Beck made his own donation of $10,000.
Beck‘s father was a member of the Chamber and while Beck admitted he doesn’t always support the organization’s decision, he does believe it is “fighting” for small businesses and is being unfairly demonized by the Obama administration.

Posted on October 14, 2010 at 11:28amNo Chris, companies make their profits by SELLING STUFF. And you know the best way to sell stuff, make stuff cheaper. How do you make stuff cheaper? Have machines, who don’t get paid, make it instead of union workers, who get paid too much. The cheaper you make stuff, the more people buy it, the more the company makes, the more it can invest in expanding their operation and hiring more people.
This is the real story of stuff.

Posted on October 14, 2010 at 11:23amSoor Glenn but I would rather send my donation to the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB). They represent ONLY small business who creates about 70% of net new jobs.
The Chamber has supported NAFTA and all other “free trade agreements” which clearly have been a major factor in the deindustrialization of America. It’s now extending to services. The Chamber is very different then in Glenn‘s Dad’s days.
To his credit, I think Chris M actually has some sound thinking. We need a solid free market partnership of state government and business in recreating our bad infrastructure and creating new forms of infrastructure. Make it worthwhile for business to form coalitions to help fund these costs. Current law prohibits cooperation as being ant-competitive.

Every time my taxes go up or I see another rule or regulation come down the pike, that serves more to run mine and my customers costs up, I wonder why I am doing this. It would seem to be alot easier to just work for someone else, and let them deal with the headaches.

Absolutely right. “Why don’t we travel by train from New York to Los Angeles at 300 Mph+ like other countries?” Because we’d rather fly there at over 500 mph and stop less. Hmm, get there quicker with less hassle (well, security does suck). Also, because the “high-speed rail” being proposed in the US is, for the most part, not even going to be close to 300mph, most will be about 110 http://www.cnn.com/2010/TRAVEL/08/18/us.high.speed.rail/index.html
Not to mention that the sizes of these places are completely different. Living in Japan, I was able to take a bullet train from Fukuoka to Osaka in 2 1/2 hours or so. That’s about 300 miles – depending on where you start and stop. Los Angeles to Las Vegas is about 270 miles, also depending on where you start and stop. I can fly there in 55 minutes. When you include baggage, security and stuff, it probably doesn’t make a huge difference in times (arrive an hour early, etc). But if we were able to go 200 mph (like some of the fastest trains – faster than the 110 that most US lines are projected as going) it would still take over 12 hours to travel the over 2400 miles to get there – non stop. Or you could fly it, in just under half that.
If the camera would pan around to behind Chris I think you‘d see Robert Gibbs feeding Chris everything he’s going to say.

There is no deindustrialization of America, that’s a big labor/******* myth. Manufacuring as a percent of GDP in America has remained quite stable, and reached a record in the year 2,000.
Industry is strong, the number of people employed in industry has declined a bit, due to efficiencies and reclassification. For instance, most industry contract janitorial help now, rather than hire their own janitors. These former cleanup types no longer count as “manufacturing employees”, therefore.
Free Trade directly benefits the consumer. There is no possible or conceivable Conservative argument against freedom, including the freedom to purchase and sell freely to any other human being.
You are a liberal troll, and you really need to find somewhere else to play.

Many economists are now recognizing that NAFTA, GATT, ect are NOT true free trade. For free trade to be fair and actually work in the real world, all the assumptions underlying the theory MUST be met. They aren’t. In fact, some “free traders” are like those who once advocated Unilateral disarmament in terms of weapons. FYI, economics is the weapon of China and their winning. They are now the 2nd largest economy in the world.
Look at Manufacturing as a % of the GDP. It is now only about 13% vs about 25% before many of the best paying jobs moved overseas. We have huge trade deficits especially with China who will soon pass the USA in MFGing output. If you like a possible military enemy to be better prepared in terms of MFging, that‘s fine with me but I think it’s sad. But please stay like progressives wo do not accept the facts.

The main difference however is that Mathews doesn‘t have a clue what he’s talking about on this or any other issue. He just thinks that if he sounds authoritative and confident and condescending while delivering a steaming pile of feces through your television that you’ll buy whatever point it was he started his diatribe with.

Posted on October 14, 2010 at 12:20pmEveryone at NBC uses the same script, they all sound the same. Maybe that’s why they have no ratings, heard one you have heard them all, no sense in wasting your time there. Or, it could be like Jerry Brown said about the back pockets. What a rag.

Some 7.1 million viewers tuned into Fox News at 8 PM last night to watch the last trapped Chilean miner making it to the surface safety. That was not only the cable news channel’s largest audience in the hour this year but its biggest viewership since Election Night 2008. And Fox News not only pummeled its cable competition, it also beat broadcast networks NBC and Fox in the 8 PM hour.
CNN also got a boost with its rescue coverage vs. the miniscule ratings it has been getting in the 8 PM slot with new talkshow Parker Spitzer. The network averaged 2.7 million viewers, trailing Fox News by a wide margin in the area it used to dominate – breaking news. MSNBC (1.1 million) was on par with what Keith Olbermann normally delivers in the 8 PM hour. Overall, Fox News’ primetime average last night was 4.9 million viewers, followed by CNN (2.4 million) and MSNBC (920,000).

Though he might find that its not cost effective without government forcefully taking money from people to fund its incompetence in a new industrial age. Damn economics and its strict loyalty to reality!
