Maxine Waters: ‘Gangster’ Banks Must Modify Loans Or ‘We’re Gonna Tax Them Out of Existence’

While speaking at a Los Angeles Town Hall event recently, Rep. Maxine Waters introduced an interesting idea when it comes to banks and loan modification. According to her, it’s up to the federal government to make sure people can afford their mortgages. So much so that it’s time the president “bring the gangsters in, put them around the table, and let them know that if they don’t come up with loan modifications and keep people in their homes, that they’ve worked so hard for, we’re gonna tax them out of business.”

On radio Thursday, Glenn Beck called the comments “extremely dangerous” and said it could be a setup for ultimate government control. Still, he did speak out against crony capitalism — including banks that exploit loopholes — and special interests.

I know the consensus about Wiki, but many of the other sites gave a brief explaination of this crime. I see this crime a lot where I work and it is generally associated with the threat of physical violence. I will Quote something from Laws.com.

THATS NOT THEIR MONEY. The bank ultimatly has to pay the consequences when that loan goes bad. Then if enough banks go bad then its YOU AND ME ON THE HOOK AGAIN. If you REALLY want this government shrunk to Constitutional limits, then cut off the head: eliminate the Federal Reserve System and taxation.

Eventually democrats managed to get government to mandate that lenders lower their lending standards for “affordable housing”. This led to predatory lending on people who could never afford a home in the first place, and ended up defaulting on them. In turn, billions of dollars of bad debt sits in financial institutions today. We’ve yet to recover from it, in fact, more foreclosures are taking place.

Banks never lose they just mismanage someone else’s wealth and keep what they can from shady dealings one way or another. Banks currently “ negotiate ” to refuse short sales so the home goes into foreclosure. Why? The Feds pay the bank 15% of the value! it is worth it. Foreclosures RUIN THE NEIGHBORHOODS. Walk away strategic defaults hurt neighborhood values as well.
But here is where it gets interesting: the brokers buy in to these bank owned properties super cheap and slumlord them till prices go back up.
Greenspan should go to jail for never reporting the bundling of mortgages for security investments since AIG was on the short end to pay up on those defunct mortgages with
insurance benefits to the mortgagers. They went broke and the US citizens are paying AIG’s bills. (AIG paid the US back—-THAT $$$ went where? For how many jobs?

Should Banks change their loan contracts with people that borrowed to buy a house? Only if the bank wants too. Its not the fault of the Bank people cannot afford their mortgage. Its also not the job of the Government to take over the control of the Bank. Nor is it the job of the Government to pay for these peoples mortgages using the life blood of other Americans. Life has risk – it always has. Its not the Governments job to pick the people who have tripped from off the floor by using what was earned by the successful.
It goes that if the Government rewards the countries lower income bakers by taking money from the wealthy Doctors through taxes and handouts so everyone is equal, the country will only have bakers in the short future and no Doctors. At some point the successful wealth builders of the country will give up and throw in the towel and join the “less fortunate” on the couch watching Jerry Springer and sucking Doritos cheese off their fingers.
