Mayan Regions in Mexico Launch Countdown to December 2012 ‘Apocalypse’

MEXICO CITY (The Blaze/AP) — Seize the day.
Only a year is left before Dec. 21, 2012, when some believe the Maya predicted the end of the world.
While some doomsday theorists may suggest putting together survival kits, people in southeastern Mexico, the heart of Maya territory, plan to throw a yearlong celebration. And to make a profit while they party.
Mexico’s tourism agency expects to draw 52 million visitors over the coming year just to the five states richest in Maya heritage. Mexico as a whole is expected to lure just 22 million foreigners this year.
It is selling the date, the Winter Solstice, as a time of renewal. Most Mexican archaeological authorities say that the 2012 reference on a 1,300-year-old stone tablet only marks the end of a cycle in the Mayan calendar, not an apocalypse.
“The world will not end. It is an era,” said Yeanet Zaldo, a tourism spokeswoman for the Caribbean state of Quintana Roo, home to Cancun. “For us, it is a message of hope.”
Cities and towns in the Mayan region are starting the yearlong countdown on Wednesday. The city of Tapachula on the Guatemalan border will start an 8-foot (2.5-meter) digital clock in its main park to begin the countdown exactly a year before the date.
In the nearby archaeological site of Izapa, Maya priests will burn incense, chant and offer prayers.
On Mexico’s Caribbean coast, between the resorts of Cancun and Playa del Carmen, people are putting messages and photos in a time capsule that will be buried for 50 years. Maya priests and Indian dancers will perform a ritual at the time capsule ceremony.
“People who still live in Mayan villages will host rites and burn incense for us to go back in time and try to understand the Mayan wisdom,” Zaldo said.
Yucatan state has announced plans to complete the Maya Museum of Merida by next summer.
And President Felipe Calderon recently announced there would be about 500 Maya-themed events throughout the year in southern Mexico, including workshops and dance and music festivals.
Officials are building a state-run tourist hotel at the natural reserve of Calakmul in the state of Campeche. And the National Institute of Anthropology and History is opening three additional ruins to tourists.
Some theorists have found evidence of a 2012 apocalypse in the Bible, the prophesies of Nostradamus or in the alignment of celestial bodies, and official assurances that the world is likely to continue have not convinced everyone.
An article on the website “survivalguide2012” advises readers that in addition to stocking up on emergency supplies, they might consider heading to mountains on Dec. 21, perhaps those in Alaska or Bolivia.
“Regardless whether the threat of December 21, 2012, is real or not, there is no harm in being prepared” said the author, writing under the name Yang Muffins.
The Mayan civilization, which reached its height from 300 A.D. to 900 A.D., had a talent for astronomy
Its Long Count calendar begins in 3,114 B.C., marking time in roughly 394-year periods known as Baktuns. Thirteen was a significant, sacred number for the Mayas, and they wrote that the 13th Baktun ends on Dec. 21, 2012.
The doomsday theories stem from a pair of tablets discovered in the 1960s at the archaeological site of Tortuguero in the Gulf of Mexico state of Tabasco that describe the return of a Mayan god at the end of a 13th period.
“The Maya are viewed by many westerners as exotic folks that were supposed to have had some special, secret knowledge,” said Maya scholar Sven Gronemeyer. “What happens is that our expectations and fears get projected on the Maya calendar.”
Gronemeyer of La Trobe University in Australia compares the supposed Mayan prophecies to the “Y2K” hype, when people feared all computer systems would crash when the new millennium began on Jan. 1, 2000.
For some reason, Gronemeyer says, people have ignored evidence that dates beyond 2012 were recorded in Mayan ruins.
“Human beings seem to be attracted by apocalyptic ideas and always assume the worst,” he said.
Jonnie Channell of Albuquerque, New Mexico, says that 2012 “is going to be one of those things where people are definitely going to have to plan,” not because of impending apocalypse, but because hotel rooms in the Maya region are probably going to be full.
Channell, who owns Maya Sites Travel Services, said she already has 24 reservations for three tour packages she is offering to major Mayan ruin sites in the week leading up to the solstice.
She named one “Beginning the New Calendar Era Under the Yucatan Stars.”
“We put together these tours, and we’ve got lots of signups, and people are excited about it,” she said. “If anybody think it’s going to be the end of the world, then they better stay home.”

Subject: Daniel corrects the Anno Domini Dating System
Date: Sun, 6 Nov 2011 15:42:25 -0500
The Anno Domini (In the year of our Lord) dating system devised by Dionysius Exiguus in AD525 is an example of good intensions but you know what they say about good intensions. He hoped to create a Christian era dating system based on the life of Jesus Christ. The dating system of his day were given the name of the currently ruling emperor but because they were the ones persecuting and killing Christians over the first five centuries, after the death and resurrection of Jesus, he wanted to have a dating system that did not acknowledge these emperors.
Report Post »Because his new system is based on the life of Jesus and created five centuries after his death and resurrection, I started to question how accurate could this system be. Over the years, I have read and thought about Daniel chapter nine and his vision of the seventy weeks and Gabriel explanation of its meaning. Daniel is told, in the year the decree is given by the king to repair the walls of Jerusalem, from that year until the Messiah is cutoff will be sixty-two weeks times seven or four hundred and thirty-four years. Daniel is not given a number of years that it would be from his vision to when the repairs would begin, for now this is an unknown but when we arrive at the end of the sixty-nine week, we will be able to back track and know the actual year the decree was issued.

In response to the council of Nicaea really doesnt effect salvation at all. What does effect salvation is belief in a god that doesnt exist or Jesus Christ that doesnt exist. You still wont show me where in the Bible it says “you can become a god” or that “God was a man”.
No Mormon can show me these things since they dont exist in the Bible. You are not worshipping the Jesus Christ of the Bible or the God of the Bible. In all honesty you are belittling God with even thinking you can become like the God almighty.
As far as the trinity goes I believe them to be one God three parts. But since I am a man, I dont want to presume anything. Once i get to Heaven I guess I will find out for sure. Question is, if you are right, I get to go to maybe the lowest teir of Heaven with all the Muslims, Hindu, Scientologist, and other faiths correct? In my faith you end up with the Muslims, Hindu, Scientologists and other faiths in Hell. Maybe its time to put the book of Mormon down, and read the one true book of God. THE BIBLE.

He then went on to write the Book of Mormon and establish the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or Mormon Church, in 1830. Later in 1833, Smith had a supposed revelation that commanded him to incorporate polygamy into Mormonism. Although historians debate the exact number of wives Smith had, it is obvious that he was engaged in “sexual union” with many women even without his wife’s consent. Most of his first dozen “wives” were legally married to other men, except for the 14 year old girl, at the time of their seduction.
14 years old? If I remember correctly there was a story about another so called prophet and his young wife.

Which version of the bible are you asking me to use? I only ask because I’ve already answered your questions several times and the one time you tried to rebut me you used a different version of the Bible than the King James Bible. I‘m presuming you used some sort of ’modern-day language’ interpretation of the bible because the verses were completely butchered… you even took away and added a few words to make it fit for you. You never replied when I corrected you.
You’ve been given the answers you seek SO many times by SO many people, but you keep asking the same question. I just don‘t think you’re ready for the meat.
1 Corinthians 3:2 -
2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
By the way, I don’t know why you think I need your approval to be a Christian… I think I‘ll stick with Christ’s approval as a member of His true and living church; The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
P.S. Ron Paul will never be President (I bet that will fire you up more than anything else I’ve said).

Posted on December 21, 2011 at 4:44pmWhy is polygamy is ok in Heaven according to Mormons? Yes I understand you follow the laws of the land here, but Heaven its ok? What does your wife think of that? Also, if takes the sacred marriage on earth to get to the highest level, whos wives will you get? Is it just a big orgy? Do you share your wife? If so how does she feel about that?
Lets see what the Mormon prophets thought of polygamy.
Brigham Young
“The only men who become Gods, even the Sons of God, are those who enter into polygamy (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 11, p. 269, August 19, 1866)
Monogamy, or restrictions by law to one wife, is no part of the economy of heaven among men. Such a system was commenced by the founders of the Roman empire. . . . Rome became the mistress of the world, and introduced this order of monogamy wherever her sway was acknowledged. Thus this monogamic order of marriage, so esteemed by modern Christians as a holy sacrament and divine institution, is nothing but a system established by a set of robbers. . . .
Why do we believe in and practice polygamy? Because the Lord introduced it to his servants in a revelation given to Joseph Smith, and the Lord’s servants have always practiced it. “And is that religion popular in heaven?” It is the only popular religion there . . . (Deseret News, August 6, 1862)

As far as you using 1 Corinthians 3:2 to belittle me, you are not the apostle Paul. It is not up to you to judge me to determine if I am ready for the answers. You keep posting it over and over again and it shows you have no answer for my two easy questions.
You are correct, you can believe anything you like, I dont think I said one time you couldnt worship who ever you choose. All I have done is point out the fact you are worshipping a false god brought to you by the false prophet Joseph Smith.
This isnt a attack on you, This is a rescue mission to save you from hell. As I said if you can show me in the real Bible which ever version you choose where it says “ God was a man just like us” and that “man can become a god” I will stand down. You have proven yourself unworthy of a response once you began to say things about my wife and using terms such as “orgy”. I will ask you kindly to never speak that way again.
However, I can’t help but wonder if you would speak such venom to biblical prophets such as Abraham, Moses, Jacob, etc. Did you even know that they were each polygamists? Please see, inter alia, Genesis 16:1–3; 29:23–30; 30:4, 9; Judges 8:30; 1 Samuel 1:1–2.
You have lost control of yourself and spoke with anger. Here is some advise that will serve you well:
James 1:19-20:
19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
Also please consider:
Proverbs 25:15
15 By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.
I caution you against speaking with such anger… “For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.” If you worketh not the righteousness of God, then who are you serving? For a man can only serve one master
Matthew 6:24
24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
If you so choose to continue speaking with such hatred and anger, you will have shown who your true master is.

Your wife should take offense to the mulitple wives in Heaven problem your religion takes. Look I understand alot of what I post is hard to get your head around, but you know what? Its from your prophets.
You claim I am angry, I beg to differ. I saw these things with love. I am worried for your salvation as I am concerned for one of my best friends who is a Mormon. Look he cannot answer the questions either. I dont fault you for not answering them because there is no way to show it in the Bible. Mainly because it isnt there. Using men as a example for anything should show your wrong ways. Last I checked they were all men, all humans are born in sin. The fact you tried to justifiy polygamy using men in the Bible 3000 years ago proves you arent against polygamy because of the law, not because its wrong and immoral to your God.
Did Abraham, Jacob, or Moses have a 14 year old wife like Joseph Smith? Correct me if I am wrong since you didnt answer, polygamy is fine in Heaven according to the prophet Joseph Smith right? If so, your wife is ok with that? I mean honestly I hate to burst the little “orgy” fantasy you Mormons have but Jesus Christ of the Bible is pretty clear there wont be marriage in Heaven.
Matthew 22:30
30For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven

The fact you cannot answer my questions and you have reverted to saying I feel one way or another on me is amusing though. If you know these things, are you sure you arent already a god? If you seriously don’t remember the multiple scriptures I, and others, have given you to try to help you, then there might be something wrong. You have proven the purpose of the counsel found in the following passage:
Matthew 7:6
6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.
Martinez, seriously, take some time to calm down and pray. I’m sure you believe you are well intentioned; but you fail to see who you are truly serving when you speak with such anger and venom. The devil has many tools; one of his greatest is anger.

Posted on December 22, 2011 at 3:19pmGents, it would appear that I‘m a little late to the ’party’. However, I’d like to cash in on some of the points made–kind of a tangent, perhaps.
@P8riot–you’re absolutely right to be careful of newer modern-day translations. They certainly aren’t as true to the original texts (Greek, masoretic, Septuagental, etc, etc). In some cases, folks have taken liberties when making their translations–just look at ‘translations’ such as The Message (though to its credit, I believe it does state that it’s a paraphrase). At the same time, we can encounter a similar issue with the door swinging the other way. In this case, the KJV was translated from the Latin Vulgate rather than the original texts. While I‘ve not studied Latin and can’t attest to the integrity of the translation, at translation of a translation lends even more to the age-old phrase ‘lost in translation’. After studying the Greek, I’ve noticed a more literal translation is the NASB. Others that are a bit less so are the NRSV and the ESV.
The intent of most of these newer translations are to ‘change’ things such that they make sense to people today. However, this is easily the exception, and not the rule. In some translations, inclusive language is used when there is no indicator or context for it.
That‘s all I’ve got for now…

Once again you judge me and decide for me if I am ready for your all knowing knowledge. I do remember the scriptures you posted on the other thread. Psalm 82
God is judge among men, he asks them why do they judge unjustly and accept the persons of the wicked. He is talking about men called gods because they judge. What gods “die like men”?
1God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods.
2HOW LONG WILL YE JUDEGE UNJUSTLY, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.
3Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.
4Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.
5They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.
6I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
7BUT YE SHALL DIE LIKE MEN, and fall like one of the princes.
8Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations.
John 10
34Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?
Whos law was it written? Oh yeah mans law. The term “gods” was again used as judges of the time. Hense written in your law part. Jesus didnt say written in my law d

Posted on December 21, 2011 at 12:27pmNot sure I get why you wanted me to watch this… Evolution is a FACT not a Fiction… I’m not saying CREATION is not possible, but it is Un-deniable fact that creatures DO EVOLVE… But since that is not the topic of this forum, I will not go into it… Just do a little research and you will find something referred to as “Variation, and Mutation” IE: Baleen Whale’s used to have legs, and now they have fins.. (there is skeletal evidence of this)..
I will never say CREATION is not possible, because it is impossible to prove or disprove it… But EVOLUTION is scientific fact, and anyone that tries to argue it, is not only ignorant, but a fool.

Posted on December 21, 2011 at 7:20am11. And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, {This happened in 70 A.D. when the Roman General Titus destroyed Jerusalem and burned the Jewish Temple.} and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, {This happened in 691 A.D. when the Dome of the Rock, a Muslim shrine, was built on the Temple Mount.} there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days. {The wise know that these “days” are years. So, 691 + 1,290 = 1981. What happened here on Earth in 1981? Not much that I know of. But my guess is that this is when Satan was cast out of Heaven. {Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! For the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. Revelation 12:12}
12. Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days. {Ok, 691 + 1,335 = 2026. No one knows the day or the hour, but, it looks, to me, that this is the year of the Second Coming, when Jesus returns, not as the Lamb of God, but, as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. “Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel. Psalms 2:9.}
13. But go thou way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.
Daniel 12:11-13

For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night.
I will be taking the day of 21 dec 2012 and laughing at the stupidity of the world ….
