McCain Is First Out the Gate to Call for Bombing Syria

Senator John McCain, the 2008 Republican Presidential nominee, took to the floor of the Senate today and staked out what will prove to be the latest in a series of increasingly hawkish stances he has taken on foreign intervention. Politico reports:
“Providing military assistance to the Free Syrian Army and other opposition groups is necessary, but at this late hour, that alone will not be sufficient to stop the slaughter and save innocent lives. The only realistic way to do so is with foreign airpower,” McCain, a Vietnam war veteran and the top Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, said in a speech on the Senate floor.
“Therefore, at the request of [opposition forces], the United States should lead an international effort to protect key population centers in Syria, especially in the north, through airstrikes on Assad’s forces.”
McCain’s call for military action in Syria makes him the first politician in the United States to officially suggest intervening in the war-torn Middle Eastern country. He was also among the first to call for military action in Libya, despite having previously promised to secure military hardware for deposed Libyan Dictator Muammar Qadhafi.
McCain’s stance suggesting United States support for the Syrian rebels is likely to raise some eyebrows, given other allies the Syrian rebel force has picked up over the past few months. As the Blaze itself reported last month, Al Qaeda operatives have joined the Syrian rebel force in protest of the “secular” Assad regime.

Posted on March 6, 2012 at 12:15amIn the early part of this century I spent a total of two weeks in Munich with little Johnnie at a NATO Security chat fest in two successive years. First, I respect the rank he attained in the Navy and the incredible suffering he endured during his prolonged torture at the hands of the Vietnamese. Second, I believe he is a twisted and irreparably damaged soul with an unquenchable thirst for blood. Think I am overly dramatic; check his positions and voting record. Johnnie, has not seen any international (or domestic – NDAA as an example) issue that could not be fixed by spilling blood; theirs (whomever that might be) and with great regret- our sons and daughters. When you analysis what he says and what positions he takes, none of them have any identifiable connection to a coherent national strategy, and many are a direct threat to our national interests; Iraq, Tunisia, Libya, Syria, and soon Iran. Every prescription that he offers regardless of how coyly presented is a plan for death. Be aware and beware of Johnnie, he has carrier polits arrogance and the neurosis of a man with size issues.

Posted on March 5, 2012 at 6:07pmSimilar bombing raids under identical pretense in Libya killed thousands of civilians, according to human rights groups. NATO claims the targets it hit during the so-called civil war were legitimate military targets. NATO warplanes flew 18,000 sorties during the 7-month campaign, which ended in October.
Report Post »“Civilian targets, for NATO, are legitimate, and these have included one or more hospitals, a clinic, factories, warehouses, agricultural sites, schools, a university, one or more mosques, non-military related infrastructure, a food storage facility, a water-purifying plant and others,” writes Rahnuma Ahmed.
“The ultimate goal of air strikes should be to establish and defend safe havens in Syria, especially in the north, in which opposition forces can organize and plan their political and military activities against Assad,” McCain told his Senate colleagues. from article infowars.

Posted on March 5, 2012 at 5:58pmI don‘t understand why it’s so hard for people to research a little bit – doesn’t take a whole lot – listen to ex-Muslims and come to the correct conclusion about Islam…..which is ALL Muslims, including these that are fighting the present regime, are taught and hate all infidels (including any military that are helping them win), hate Israel and their goal for Allah is to take the whole world over for him. They’ll accept our help of course when it benefits them but all the while hate us anyway. And their idea of “democracy” is to be able to choose their own leader of choice that is a Muslim, believes in Sharia Law to rule, etc.. Even if they win, that will NOT make them “friendly” to us – or anyone else. And, just as in Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood will take over – which helps them reach their goal of a powerful Caliphate that will turn on the whole world when they get united – which includes…….us.

Posted on March 5, 2012 at 5:55pmI whole heartedly respect Senator McCain for his time in service as a Naval officer, and for what he endured for years as a POW. That said, I met some truly nutty officers during my time in the Army. I had to respect them and I did, but there were some true nuts. McCain falls in this category as far as I am concerned, and it is about time for him to retire from the government and get a job working for his wife. Posted on March 5, 2012 at 5:45pmI disagree, if we are going to hit anyone now it has to be Iran. The king of Syria or the people, doesn’t matter, either one will continue to be an enemy of Israel and the USA. With Iran we have to worry about their continued effort to obtain a nuclear weapon. Iran is the greater threat at this time. Syria yes a threat to Israel but not as grave as Iran. Let them deal with their own domestic problems, we are not responsible for them unless it affects our national security in some direct way.
