McCain References Tea Party ‘Hobbits’ on Senate Floor

You’ll have to watch this to believe it.
In a harsh criticism of House Republicans and think tanks critical of Rep. John Boehner’s plan to raise the debt limit, the 2008 Republican Presidential nominee, who chose Tea Party darling Sarah Palin for VP, said about this about a faction of his own party:
Granted, Sen. McCain was quoting a Wall Street Journal opinion piece this morning when he recited this passage:
“The Republican House that failed to raise the debt ceiling would somehow escape all blame. Then Democrats would have no choice but to pass a balanced-budget amendment and reform entitlements, and the tea-party Hobbits could return to Middle Earth having defeated Mordor.
This is the kind of crack political thinking that turned Sharron Angle and Christine O’Donnell into GOP Senate nominees.”
McCain’s eruption was the product of his frustration with “fellow” conservatives who are still holding out for a balanced budget amendment as part of any compromise on the debt ceiling. McCain accused those pushing for the amendment as “deceiving” America into believing such a thing can pass the Senate:
Is this McCain’s strategy to build a coalition with those in his own party to get a plan actually done? Is this how he thinks he can sway support for Boehner’s plan?
Speaking of “hobbits,” I can only imagine McCain using this Lord of the Rings reference the next time he takes to the Senate floor to discuss opposition to a bill:

Posted on July 27, 2011 at 7:32pmTbaggers have lost all grasp of reality, they beleive the balanced budget amednemt could pass the Senate, let alone the States. The problem is that they beleive Fox and Beck tell them the truth. We need to end the W. welfare for the rich and close the tax loop holes, then arrest Norquist for black mailing congress with his damn oath.

Posted on July 28, 2011 at 8:09amFirst of all, remove all “welfare” from those who come to the USA to live off of it, whether they be legal or illegal. Second of all, show me where it is written that the Federal government has any right to compel any citizen to involuntarily support anybody else. Those who do not take responsibility for their own lives say, “don’t tell us what to do”. Well, they should not be telling those of us who they want to leech from what to do.
The biggest tax loop hole around is for the 50% of the population that pay no income tax.

Posted on July 27, 2011 at 8:14pmThis is exactly the reason during the 2004 election that the Dems were recruiting JM for the Dem party ticket. I’m a retired submarine navy veteran and I was always mesmerized by his service, which was very stellar and what he went through in that Hanoi Hotel I wouldn’t wish on anyone, but the TAINT of DC has corroded this warrior just like it did to John Murtha. You can’t stay in politics in DC without losing your soul. The founding fathers knew this.I guess they never thought that term limits would be required since by their example they thought everyone else would follow. Enter the progressives. I also remember that Teddy Ken visited the Vatican before he died. Was he trying to make some kind of deal for his soul? Dodd & Kennedy coined the term “waitress sandwich”, which i’m not going to explain. The corrosion and corruption has only increased with all of the lobbyists. They all should be BANNED. The summer break should be reserved to talk to lobbyists in their home states and the rest of the year should be for us citizens.

Posted on July 27, 2011 at 10:15pmHe’s right of course. There‘s a block of Republicans who won’t take “yes” for an answer, no matter what the offer. President Obama has already offered to kill several “sacred cows” and risk the wrath of not only his party, but the poor, the middle class and seniors. And this block of Republicans said “no”, not enough. They DO feel like they personally have nothing to lose (most of them being independently wealthy), and would rather see the economy collapse rather than follow the lead of great Republicans of the past, like Reagan, and find a compromise.
Reagan raised the debt ceiling 17 times, Bush 7. The world, including conservative who aren’t running for election are saying the same. This is brinkmanship, at Americans will pay, or would pay, for the intransigence of the extreme right.
My prediction: in the end, President Obama, to save the country from economic collapse, will invoke the 14th amendment and Executive rights to save the country. Not a great scenario to do it that way, but somebody in the room has to look out for the country, not just their own election.

And, I want the White House. New President=New Budget plans. Old President=Hope for Change. Having your priorities right is the way to start. Not every road goes in a straight line to the beach. Sometimes you need to make left turns. Don’t wreck the car on the way to the beach. Boehner is a good man. Don‘t twist him in the wind until he’s had half a chance. Internet, electricity, phone, computers. I would list 1000‘s more but I don’t have that many characters for the text. It’s ABSURD and preposterous the amount of weight America has had to have on its back because no other nation can provide any sort of technological advances like we have. So, what else is funny? Our copious GDP that makes the Roman Empire look like contemporary England? Or how about our military? If it wasn’t for our brave men (and the technology we have given to the rest of the world) you would either be speaking Russian or Arabic right now. One under communism and the other under a caliphate. Or we can start with how you are on an American website. Let’s see how many websites we can name from your country. So, AREYOUFORREAL…. Posted on July 27, 2011 at 7:22pmMcCain speaks a truth that TPers do not want to hear. Negotiation is needed when you only control 1/3 of government. Be patiant little ones, your time is coming.

Posted on July 27, 2011 at 7:36pmGood advice… lets start negotiating on the Bill the Democrats have put out there…. oh wait, there isn’t one………. well, maybe the President has something to negotiate on……hmmm, still nothing….. How about the Dems in the Senate start negotiating woith the GOP on the only plan to pass the House so far? Oh, dangit….. that one was tabled without any debate whatsoever by Democrats afraid to take a public stance on any debt related issues.
Negotiations require two parties, Sara. The only party doing any responsible work in DC right now is the GOP. There is nothing from Dems for to negotiate on, besides Harry’s bill, which other Senate Democrats say they haven’t even seen the details of yet.
Call your Demcratic congressmen and urge them to resign. oops. mistype. I meant, negotiate.
Report Post »saranda
Posted on July 28, 2011 at 10:11amRogue – you and I know nothing about the backroom discussions. Negotiation is not always done by tabling endless bills to play to the cameras with the full knowledge that they are not going anywhere. Negotiation takes place at the table where men and women sit and find a solution. The rest is just for show. Besides, as a fiscal conservative I have seen Obama move off his increased revenue stance which seems to me to be a big move for his side. All we seem to do is talk to the press endlessly about the same things which have proven to not be acceptable. At some point, perhaps yesterday with Boehner calling out the children in his own party, logic has to dictate a negotiated end to this. We are closer than you think we are to the end, but the damage is done in the credibility of congress and that was not worth the fight. TP controls only 1/3 of government at this point and yet fail to recognize what that means.
Report Post »My only advice to the TP is to leave the social issues on the shelf and focus on the economy. Their time will come and it could be soon, but right now is not the time to open social discussions, it is time to solve a crisis and look forward to 2012.
