McDonald’s CEO: ‘In Order to Create Jobs in America, You‘re Going to Have to Cut Taxes’

McDonald’s Corporation President and CEO Jim Skinner says for things to turn around in the American economy, spending and taxes must be curbed, especially towards business. Jeff Randall writes in the Telegraph on his upcoming interview with Skinner on Sky News Jeff Randall Live:
“‘The question is, how can we get the ox out of the ditch?’ Mr Skinner said. ‘In order to create jobs in America, you’re going to have to cut taxes… particularly in the business community.
‘We pay some of the highest [corporate] taxes around the world. There needs to be some leveling.’
Asked about federal borrowing, he said: ‘It’s not a good story… the government has to spend less. We have to grow the economy, grow GDP… and you have to be able to do it in an organic way and not through borrowings and increasing debt.’”
McDonald’s third-quarter profit gained 8.6 percent, but Skinner has said that the economic environment is still fragile. ”We are officially out of the recession, but it hardly feels that way,” said Skinner on October 21 in a call with analysts. “Consumers everywhere continue to be cautious and hesitant to spend.”
Skinner tells Randall in regards to healthcare reform;”Until all of that is all defined and certain… we’re going to continue to have a fragile environment for consumer confidence.”
McDonald’s has more than 500,000 staff on its domestic payroll, and has just delivered 100 consecutive months of same-store sales growth.

Posted on November 7, 2011 at 2:50pmWould like to see the real or effective tax rates paid by McDonalds and their average franchisee. Similar to individual taxes, its not the rates that really matter, its the effective tax rate after all deductions and credits are taken. And as we know the vast majority of deductions and credits favor the wealthy and large corporations. How about a story showing the small businessman and middle class how unfairly they are treated in comparison to the large companies and wealthy. Does GE ring a bell. No doubt their taxes need to be cut.

Posted on November 7, 2011 at 2:56pmInteresting comment from a company that doesn’t pay a living wage, which of course provides little discretionary income for the individual to participate in the real job creator….DEMAND. Let’s hear from Wallmart, that great bastion of capitalism that systematically scheduled workers so their income was under the state’s medicaid income threshold, so their workers would qualify for Medicaid. Now that’s corporate citizenship for you. And let’s not forget the wonderful job they do in playing communities and states against one another to gain tax abatements. But I am all for tax credits for companies that provide jobs in the US and tax penalties for those who move jobs overseas.

No, no, meester CEO. A successful business man like yourself doesn’t know how to create jobs. You have to be a “never held a job a day in his life” illegal alien to know that communism (stealing from everyone) is the best way to create jobs (slave labor).

McDonald‘s isn’t required to pay “a living wage”. What in the world does that mean, anyway?
McDonald’s is a great job for teenagers or retired people trying to make a few extra bucks. If you think you’re going to support a family of 5 working there, then you are a fool.
Worse, if you think you SHOULD be able to support a family of 5 working there, then prepare to pay $40 for a happy meal. Heck, even then inflation would drive everything else up, too. God, folks like JRook are dumb. Please take the time to investigate basic economics. Please.

The mere fact they are more worried about World War II prayers, sending busts back to England, enforcing sharia law. Growing the police state, and starting more wars tells us just that. Not to mention “we must change traditions”.
A true President would cut deals with giants in the U.S. to spark production here at home. Tax the chinese. Nothing they are doing just like Bush etc is for America. We have 100% lost this country. and unless the people rise I fear we will never get it back. Its sad but true.

Posted on November 6, 2011 at 11:23pm… And, in order to reduce the Debt & Deficit… Businesses must Reproduce & Expand, creating a wider Tax Base, which will provide more Revenue!
Report Post »The_Almighty_Creestof
Posted on November 6, 2011 at 11:18pmIt needs to be done in a way that guarantees job growth. Such as, in 2012 thru 2015 we will cut your taxes by .25 cents for every dollar spent on payroll & benefits for new employee hired during the same time frame & making less than $45,000.
That would satisfy those that say corporations will just bank the tax cuts due to uncertainty and not actually hire anyone…or spend it only on hiring nephews in for $250,000 a year to make copies in the main office.
Report Post »The_Almighty_Creestof
Posted on November 6, 2011 at 11:27pmTo clarify, if a business spends a $1.00 on a new employee they get a .25 cent tax break on that spent dollar…not on every dollar/employee that already existed. That portion of their business can be addressed in a separate measure…such as, .05 tax break for dollars already in existance.
Companies after 2015 would be able to apply for these cuts to be extended after 2015 upon showing they have actually followed thru and not just “cooked the books.”
When it is shown to all that cutting taxes on business DOES create jobs, it can be addressed further…making the cuts deeper, company wide and permanent…and addressing regulations and red-tape laws as well.

Posted on November 6, 2011 at 11:10pmFrom the CEO who pulled McD’s around… I’d listen, you have them, Home Depot and a lot of other companies that hire a LOT of people…. they know what is needed and the WH better stop playing games with “green jobs” that don’t work, open up the energy sector again for drilling, coal, nuclear and other fuels, get the cost of energy waaaaaaaaaay back down, lessen our imports, drastically reduce our day to day costs as well as production, shipping and manufacturing costs, make us competitive and increase our exports…
Jobs will follow quite quickly. Energy cost reduction is one of the major key parts of reviving this economy and the faster we tell the EPA to go to hell, and start tapping into our domestic energy resources, the better.
Energy needs to be officially made a “national security” and all the EPA barriers, greenpeace and all of the eco-nuts can go piss in the wind.
Report Post »PilgrimStuckInBizarroWorld
Posted on November 7, 2011 at 9:02amI agree with you, energy is our economy. Back before the banking crisis the rise of energy cost led to the housing downfall. When gas hit almost $4.00 a gallon people could not afford to pay their mortgages anymore. I know the housing bubble was going to crash but the energy prices caused this bubble to burst when it did. If we could get a energy policy that promoted real (not the fake energy that Obummer is pushing) American energy, we could rule in the energy market. This would bring jobs like we haven’t seen in quite a while.

Socialism doesn’t make medical care cheaper, since obamacare took effect the cost is rising (and expected to continue) at 9% per annum. Prior to obamacare it was rising at 3% (inflation + a little).

Even the Chinese realized that Communism wasn’t going to work without some element of Capitalism ingrained. The USSR realized their decades years later, while the filthy Capitalists of America help rebuilt West Germany, the U.K. and Japan after WWII, seeing all four of hose countries grow in wealth and technology. And guess what else? The people of those countries lived as they wished, free of oppression, not worrying about how they would eat later on in the day.
Wanna know how those behind the Iron Curtain lived? Ask anyone from East Germany, Poland, Yugoslavia and other countries that struggled under Socialist dictatorship of the period. They envied our lower class citizens, YOU TWIT! They had curfews, and told were to work and when. They had little to be happy for! You don’t like Capitalism, I wish somebody would allow the likes of you to live in Iran North Korea or China. Hell, even Cuba for that matter! Posted on November 6, 2011 at 11:02pmLowering corporate taxes would increase corporate earnings and result in increased dividends and/or retained earnings. It will not result in more jobs. Decreasing corporate taxes does not increase demand for McDonalds hamburgers, which is the only reason for hiring more workers. McDonalrds will not hire more people if their earnings increase.
Report Post »McDonalds Hamburgers are marketed. The price they charge is not directly related to cost. The price does not increase or decrease as costs increase or decrease. Advertising allows them to set prices that are independent of their costs.
It is an ideological and emotional argument that a decrease in corporate taaxes will create jobs.It is economic nonsense.
investlite
Posted on November 7, 2011 at 2:19amYou were so close to right, but then you forgot that the cost of a hamburger would decrease and as we all know, people BUY MORE when things are cheaper, thus increasing demand which in turn requires more employees to supply.

Hey MaryBethWhatever, Don‘t speak about economics if you’ve never even taken a basic class in high school or took the time to read about how it works. From what I gather from your response, you’re the type that thinks Supply drives Demand, because if you make it, people will buy it.

The FAR majority of companies who currently outsource say that they would rather run their business in the US but the taxes are too high. If the government would give companies the tax breaks then the WELL PAYING jobs will come back to the US, employing many more people at middle class or higher standards. If more people are being paid more then they have more money to spend, making companies earn bigger profits and then having to hire more people to meet higher demand. When this happens more people tend to invest in the stock market and consumer confidence shoots up.
