Meaning of Obama’s WTF Is TBD

WASHINGTON (AP) — There’s a new slogan in town, and it’s a winner.

At least that’s what President Barack Obama has in mind.

The president unveiled his “Winning the Future” mantra in his State of the Union address, and now the upbeat but amorphous phrase is part of every speech, policy and pronouncement coming out of the administration. It’s also emerged as a fat target for his Republican critics.

What’s next on health care? Where to go on energy and education policy? How to improve the jobs picture? It’s all about winning the future through innovation and determination, Obama and his aides have argued over the past few days.

There’s no room for losers is the implicit flip side of the message.

“We’ve got to up our game,” Obama told a crowd in Wisconsin.

The nation must ensure “America is still on top” in a decade, the president said on YouTube.

The country can’t just lead, adds Vice President Joe Biden; it needs to “dominate.”

It’s a juiced-up way for Obama to frame his initiatives after two years in which even some of the president’s supporters acknowledge that can-do verve sometimes was lacking from the conversation. What it means, though, is still TBD — to be determined.

After the long slog to stabilize the economy over the past two years, “clearly they’ve got polling that Americans are looking for someone that has more lofty goals and aspirations for America,” says GOP strategist Rich Galen.

It seems that just in time for the 100th anniversary of Ronald Reagan’s birth, Morning in America has arrived once again.

Just in time for the 2012 presidential race, as well.

“People need some optimism, they need to feel hopeful,” says Democratic strategist Karen Finney.

The “winning the future” construct, she says, couples a much-needed boost of optimism with the reality of the global competition that is afoot.

“It won’t resonate with everyone,” says Professor Wayne Fields, a Washington University expert on presidential rhetoric, “but it has pretty powerful implications in political life. Something has to be done is the view of most people. What this suggests is that he’s at least going to act.”

Republicans found much to mock in the president’s theme, styling it as nothing more than new rhetorical packaging for the same wrong-headed approach to governing.

Newt Gingrich, who wrote a book titled “Winning the Future” back in 2005, found Obama’s interpretation of the same phrase “depressing.”

“Sadly, there is no Obama plan for winning the future,” Gingrich wrote in response to the president’s address. “There is an Obama plan for protecting big government, for pouring more money into broken bureaucracies, for borrowing several trillion more from the Chinese dictatorship. President Obama is on a path to lose the future while pretending to change things.”

Sarah Palin, in a post on Facebook and public comments, seized on the acronym “WTF” to suggest another meaning altogether, and said the White House “still just doesn’t get it.”

Obama’s vision, Palin said, is of a centralized government that declares “we shall be great and innovative and competitive, not by individual initiative, but by government decree.”

All sides agree that the power of Obama’s message will be determined by how he fleshes out what it means.

A big test will be Obama’s release in mid-February of his proposed budget for the accounting year that begins Oct. 1.

“He‘s set a pretty high bar and now he’s got to have something to back it up with,” said the GOP’s Galen. “I don‘t think he’s got very much time to turn the rhetoric into action Finney, the Democratic strategist, said that after the economic turmoil of the past two years, Obama has the opportunity to return the focus to the things he campaigned on.

“We’re finally at the point where we can step back” and take a broader view of where the country is going, she said.

Underlying the back-over-forth over Obama’s latest turn of phrase is a larger and longer-running debate over America’s place in the world.

Palin said Obama’s new pitch “seems to be the Obama administration’s version of American exceptionalism — an ‘exceptionally big government.’” Other Republicans eyeing the 2012 presidential race, too, have accused Obama of lacking a strong vision of America’s rightful place in the world.

Obama, in turn, is offering optimistic talk about the potential of the American people in hopes of overcoming a sense of fatigue that set in over the past two years.

“In the popular mind, he lost them,” says Fields.

Now, with the economy picking up, Fields adds, Obama has an opportunity to revive the public vision of a can-do American public that uses its freedom “to innovate, educate and move forward.”

“To make this work,” says Fields, “he’ll have to bring us along with him not with a single speech but with a regular line of communication.”

It‘s a shame we’re the only remaining superpower, isn’t it?
Remember – Zero thinks it is.

If you don’t want him winning again in 2012, then you’d better start doing something about it now.
We have to fight that database of his, with our own. The republicans under Steele did absolutely nothing about building a tea party mailing list, or soliciting donations, other than for his own pocket.
And ACORN is rearing it’s head again in New York, and probably secretly everywhere else. Identify them and make sure they are de-funded.
Start working now to identify winning new Senators and Reps.
We don’t just want a win in 12, we want to dominate in 12.

And why haven‘t we seen a verbatum translation of Hu’s speech yet. I would think what he told HIS people would have been very important, considering the whole economy thing.

And those aisle-crossing bunch of Republicans in the House need to grow a pair. We can still lose this.

Of course you don’t raise the debt limit, you start cutting to stay within it, while it gets lowered. I could do with exactly 50% of government right now.

You can’t impeach someone who does not legally hold the office. The House of Representatives needs to subpoena his records in an investigation of Lt. Terry Lakin’s court martial.

      THAT will git-er-done!

And, now that Governor Albercrombie has stated that Hawaii does not have a long form birth certificate for Obama/Soetoro (or whoever he is), that is perfect probable cause for an investigation.

I love how all the apologists are trying to turn Palin’s major embarrassment and screwup into a new rallying catchphrase. They are desperately trying to paint her as an intelligent (or at least, non-moronic) potential president that they will turn the most indefensibly idiotic things she says into war cries. Leave it blind cheerleaders to turn confusing Sputnik with the arms race into something to be proud of.

Keep circling those wagons and pretending that people outside it don’t know how clueless she is. Keep parroting the same nonsense like “The media attack her because they are afraid of her!“ or ”She‘s saying this not because she’s a nitwit; it‘s because she’s edgy!” I‘m sure it’s GOT to get tiring defending the non-stop idiocy that streams from her mouth and one of these days maybe even Beck will stop being a hypocrite and start nailing her on it.

Polls show she has no chance of winning in 2012 so no worries there, though I’d much rather the Republicans put up a GOOD candidate like Ron Paul. And change the subject? What? @WalkWithMe1966 –
Well, there’s one thing for sure: You are NOT smarter than a fifth grader!

“Walk,” I voted the Democratic ticket for 50 years. T%he Democratic Party is not the one it used to be. There are Progressives in it now, those who would bankrupt our great country and overturn it.

As Glenn Beck likes to say, “Set Reason in her seat.”

      Now, think about some things.
      # Why would Obama/Soetoro issue an Executive Order to seal every record of his past? Could it BE that he has something he wants to hide, or could it be that he’s “open and transparent?”

      # If he is not a socialist, why is he following Saul Alinlky’s “Rules for Radicals” in his role as POTUS?

      # If he is not a Communist, why did he join the New Party, a Communist party?

      # If he is a “natural-born” citizen, how can he state that his father was a British subject?

      # When his mother did not meet age AND residency requirements of Hawaii in effect at the time he was born, in order to pass her citizenship to her son, how can he even claim that he is an American?

      # It does not matter WHERE he was born. AT BEST, Obama Jr. has dual citizenship, and it’s not American/Kenyan. It’s Indonesian/Kenyan. No one has released any documentation of Obama Jr.’s citizenship, but he certainly traveled around in Indonesia during a period when Americans were not allowed there. How do you explain that?

      # Do you understand WHY American businesses went overseas from America? They left because of the high tax rates here. If Obama REALLY wanted to boost the economy, he would NOT have signed the Stimulus packages THAT DID NOT WORK; he would NOT have increased the size of the government (government cannot produce jobs because the government produces no PRODUCT); and he would not have told so many bold-faced LIES. Nothing that he has promised has grown to fruition. He is working to bankrupt America, and I PRAY that you read what I‘m saying with the understanding that I’m not being snotty. I am just trying to get you to THINK.

Just ask yourself, “Well, JUST suppose Obama IS what she says. What else would he have done that would have been negative?” You will get your own answers, if you are honest with yourself.

As I said, I voted the Democratic ticket for fifty years. The Communists have infiltrated it. It’s not what it used to be, and I can assure you that ANY decision towards the left is forcing America to walk on thin ice. This nation is not as strong as it used to be, and it has boiled down to the damage that Obama has heaped upon us in only two years. It was getting bad before Obama, but honey, it’s gotten dangerous now.

I‘ve been researching Obama’s ideology for over two years. I know what I’m talking about.

      @WALK –
      From Dick Morris:
“A president’s major power is his ability to set the national agenda. But Obama’s State of the Union agenda was so boring, mundane, conventional and recycled that it will not capture either the national imagination or even center stage. It cannot drown out the drama of Republican efforts to slash spending, repeal ObamaCare, roll back federal regulations, block carbon taxes, kill union card-check and free community banks from regulatory paralysis. The ball is now in the Republicans’ court.”

Obama is all about CONTROL. Entitlements make people dependent. Regulations, carbon taxes, etc., stunts growth and prosperity, making us more dependent upon government–at the expense of those who still have a bit of money or income. Those entitlements began as a measure of compassion, but they each cost us a bit of our freedom.

What the government giveth, the government can taketh away, leaving the dependents penniless, homeless, and hopeless. Get it? Republicans are trying hard to preserve our freedom and liberty, protect the dollar, and provide an environment for small businesses to create jobs in order to protect Americans from the tyranny of an overreaching and unconstitutional agenda.

SHOWTIME…WALK may be a lost cause until “it” happens.

The unions have been obsolete since Federal Laws have been established to protect the workers. Unions have become special interest groups that are making our cars crappy, our kids worthless, our cities broke, our states broke, our manufacturing disappear, and our politicians corrupt (not that they needed much help).

Have you spoken with anyone under 25 lately? They can’t speak English. They can’t do math. They have no vision except to claim the fame and fortune they have been promised by the Public School System, of course, they have no idea how to accomplish that except for appearing on a “reality” show. Entitlement mentality is what has been created over the last 40 years and has only accelerated over the last 20.

Public schools push kids on to the next grade without making sure they are able to handle the next grade. Teachers are corrupt because of unions. When I was a younger man I dated a girl who was a student teacher. She told me that in the 2nd grade, kids in the school where she worked couldn’t read. When she asked what would happen to them, she was told they would catch up in the 3rd grade. Really, how?

Manufacturing jobs have been driven out of America because the unions are corrupt. No pride for an honest days work for an honest days pay. Retire at 55, live to 85…going back to the math problem, they don’t get it that is unsustainable. The union mentality is that “someone” will take care of that problem. Really, who?

Since WALK seems to imply he/she was born in 1966, they should have the benefit of seeing the transformation of OUR country for the worse not the better. I would expect someone who has lived long enough to “get it” after all this time. Limited mind power is not a crime, but the fact that WALK is able to form proper sentences, leads me to believe that WALK is not of sub-standard intelligence, just woefully mis-guided.

We will have our reset and America will regain it’s rightful place as the king of the hill. I just fear that it will get much, much worse before it gets better. How long it will “suck” is the issue. People like WALK will not like the America they are trying to create. They will long for the times of “baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet”.

Sadly, they think they want borsht until they realize it’s just beet soup.

Must admit, he has had me thinking WTF for two years now. It only makes sense that this is now the official line from the administration. My health care rates went up about $2,000 this year, I thought WTF. Gas prices are “necessarily skyrocketing, I thought WTF. We are closing down mining and oil drilling while “green” energy is only providing 0.7% of our energy, WTF. We have added over 700 new departments to the government, I think WTF. I would imagine that considering his new adoration for Reagan , probably has Ronald spinning in his grave, and thinking WTF?

      @John 1776,

Reagan was a liberal during his early years as a politician in California, he then found Jesus and decided that the liberal philosophy did not sit side by side with Faith in a God that loves all. He switched to conservative values as a politician and gained in favor with the early conservative movement of William F. Buckley.

And for Mr. O to think that he could even wear the Reagan mantle is a bit of a stretch since he could never support his own positions in the Illinois state legislature except for the Motor-Voter Registration laws which gave easy access to Acorn to register Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck to vote in the Chicago Mayoral Elections. And he only held strong positions on Home Ownership by strong arming or extorting banks into giving loans to (Poor) people without the ability to pay for a mortgage that would get them out of the rundown neighborhoods they lived in. Laudable goals but wrong in implementation.

But Mr. O is going in the direction that his (Father) dreamed of going, Communist, to take over the lives of the public in that if you give them some sort of safety then the Gov‘t can take all that you make in exchange if that is what the Gov’t wants. Right now they only want to do that to the Ultra Rich but they are not the end of it since he believes like his father, Communism, is the way to prosperity.

Read between the lines folks. “Win the Future” (WTF) is is a subliminal message to his progressive base. It’s not “win the future” as he described, and it’s not about “winning” the next election.

Oblahma’s message was to win against capitalism, against freedom and liberty, to establish HIS idea of a totalitarian socialist society, or even communism.

He has used this form of speech MANY times, all you need to do is realize WHO and WHAT he is to understand the true meaning of his words.

I am sick to death of Barack Obama and his never-ending quest for power… All of his fake slogans of “Hope and Change,“ ”Change You Can Believe In,“ ”Together We Thrive,“ and now ”Winning the Future” is nothing but a bunch of spectacular hype… Empty talk from an empty suit…

The only thing this man can do is campaign, and the only job this man cares about is his own. Obama desperately wants to “recapture” his message of “hope” for the future as he needs the future, another four years, to finish off America…

If only half our voting population had done their homework before falling for this Pied Piper, we wouldn’t be nearly as bad off as we are today… But still, except for a handful of American patriots, we need to clean out all of Capitol Hill.

Out with International Globalists and in with American Patriots who will honor their oaths to the Constitution and put America’s best interests first.

I was wondering why everything obama does seems contrary to common sense. i could list examples, but that would take up all my precious time.
i believe that he is working against this country’s greatness and wholesomeness.
I have come to the conclusion that what he wants is to bring the country down, to cause us to be desperate so we will come to see him as the savior that he sees himself to be. This IS devious and demonic in origin. He is trying to set the stage for our loss of sovereignty, as the new world order is installed. The man is a globalist and will do whatever it takes to get it done….including the desruction of the American way of life. Lord help us.
