KRIV reports out of Houston:
It was a controversial video that poked fun at poor people and Hispanics who use the county hospital system in Houston.
Now we’ve learned 2 medical students at Baylor College of Medicine will soon face disciplinary action for a YouTube performance called “All The Ben Taub Patients ”.
Those students performed before a crowd at a Baylor event where they proclaimed some teen mothers were on the third child and not yet 18. Baylor began an investigation after FOX 26 brought the video to the school’s attention.
The school issued a statement, which reads in part:
BCM has ongoing efforts to promote professionalism in its students, faculty and staff. Patient privacy and respect are guiding principles for all members of the BCM team, from beginning students to faculty leaders. It is a privilege to be given the opportunity to care for patients and a responsibility that we as physicians and trainees take seriously in our profession.
This type of inappropriate behavior is not consistent with our philosophy or professional standards and we will work to ensure that the issue of professionalism is front and center for our entire community. We apologize for the behavior of the students involved and take responsibility for assuring that this type of conduct does not happen at our institution in the future.
The same station previously reported on the controversial video:
== Some Say Video Offensive to Hispanics ==
The YouTube video appears to have been posted by medical students from Baylor College of Medicine.
It’s called “All the Ben Taub Patients”. Those who have seen the video say it’s offensive to Hispanics and poor people who use the county-funded hospital. We’re told the routine occurred during a Baylor Halloween event.
En espanol, tiene dolor?/
Hope I understand what you say …But when you flipped, my left hand slipped/
You can’t get mad at me/
If you don‘t like it you should’ve got insurance/
Crashed your car while under the influence …“I always thought you had better respect for your patients,” [James] Williams said.
== Lack of Sensitivity to Patients ==
Williams has a relative at Ben Taub. It’s the hospital the women targeted in their musical performance.
He said the video shows a lack of sensitivity and caring patients expect from future doctors.
“I kind of recognize that (elitism). I think that’s a big problem in society you thought we got pass all that and apparently we have not,” said Williams.
Mom’s a teen/
Third kid at 18/
Baby slip, you can’t get mad at me …Your healthcare is provided by med students/
It‘s okay if you ain’t got insurance/
Across the street you may not stand a chance/
But Baylor’s got some damn good med students…

Posted on April 19, 2011 at 9:36amSo the med students DON‘T have patients who can’t speak English or have 3 babies by the age of 18 and that’s why they are being disciplined, right?

Posted on April 19, 2011 at 9:34amI’m Hispanic, and I’m NOT offended. I’m also from Houston and Ben Taub hospital is the worst hospital there. We avoid it at all costs. They really god at patching up gunshot wounds there on the other hand.

Posted on April 19, 2011 at 8:24amThese hard working med students who spend most of their waking hours studying are expected to be perfectly happy being care giving slaves to thieving ignorant illegals who spend their time as parasites on our increasingly economically crippled society.
Report Post »This reaction should be expected at some point. It is also growing increasingly clear that at some point it will become necessary to turn these parasitic thieves away when they show up at hospitals expecting to be waited on hand and foot by the people paying their way.

Posted on April 19, 2011 at 7:51amI watched the video, read the lyrics they sang. and what I saw were students satirizing the hypocrisy and fraud of the illegal alien lobby that will now attempt to make hay of this. The DUI driver who makes free with his hands on a female doctor when she’s examining him, and then threatens her when she gets angry, that she can’t get mad at him, because he‘s ’special’, or the illegal alien teen mother, who neglects her kids. If a citizen child is injured, their citizen parents are grilled about the injury, but illegal alien teen mommy gets to threaten the doctor examining the child and asking the same questions of her, that you can’t get mad at me, I’m special, I’ll file a lawsuit. I don’t blame these medical students for speaking out against the gross hypocrisy and fraud being perpetuated, what they witness on a daily basis.

Posted on April 19, 2011 at 7:13amStudents learning the reality of political correctness… you can’t tell the truth when it involves one of the liberal sacred cows (illegal aliens, gays and blacks). Border hospitals have been closing their ER’s for years due to losses from illegals crossing the border for free care. Even the famous hospital ER in Dallas, (Parklane) that treated JFK has been closed for this reason.
Report Post »teddrunk
Posted on April 19, 2011 at 7:10amPunishment?? This should some kind of an award. America is sick of the illegals streaming across the border getting freebies, and a lousy government that allows it. We have had the technology in minefields to stop this or slow it down for decades.

Posted on April 19, 2011 at 7:05amI think it might have to start with hospitals, to be truthful. No one is telling these people NO. No one is shaming these people into better behavior. It’s gotta start sometime, right? I mean, nobody else wants to tell these abusers behave proper. I wonder how many medical personnel stifle their comments, knowing their high taxes go to this kind of crap. Think about how different things would be if hospitals simply changed the way they do things. Hypocratic oath be damned: I didn’t take the damn oath, why are we ALL required to accept these cases? The doctors take the oath, no one else. So they all speak for US? BS. I say it’s time for our compassion to come to an end.
Report Post »dmforman
Posted on April 19, 2011 at 8:24amAllowing illegals to cross the border and telling the border patrol that they are doing too good of a job and then giving the illegals much better care than they would receive in their home country has nothing to do with compassion. It has everything to do with increasing the democratic/socialistic political agenda. The illegals who come over the border have a higher birth rate than whites and conservatives, which makes the socialist agenda more and more likely to take hold in our country in the upcoming years. It is all part of the socialist agenda, and is disguised as compassion.

Posted on April 19, 2011 at 6:52amSure it isn’t nice to mock people, but under the circumstances I can understand why it is going on. People, including care givers, are getting sick and tired of taking care of people who just don’t care and take advantage of every thing they can get their hands on. It is just a gimme gimme world that these people live in. They come here get their free stuff. What a mess the politicians have gotten us into.

Posted on April 19, 2011 at 8:18amSo true. I hear of more and more people leaving nursing, medicine, teaching, and other professions. These are good people, good nurses, doctors, and teachers who are simply fed up with what is happening in America. People of tired of seeing the country being taken advantage of and politicians who could care less about what is happening to America.
The other day while at the doctor, I heard an hispanic patient laugh when given Peach Care (Georgia’s state child insurance) and say to her friend that she‘ll get seen any way without filling out the forms and admitting that they weren’t legal.

These med students are doing just fine pointing out that our representatives in Washington DC are on the take and want these illegals to vote for them. Illegals, SEIU, AFLCIO, ACORN, LULAC, Black Panthers, and other such people on the govt. dole voted in this fine President that we see on the campaign trail today.
