Media Matters’ Tax Documents Expose Group Is Targeting Christianity

Media Matters Tax Documents Show Group is Targeting ChristianityMedia Matters for America has made no bones about its stance on social and political issues. While the organization claims that it is continuously “monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media,” its targets, at least according to official Internal Revenue Service documents, are specific: businesses, wealthy Americans and right-leaning Christians.

In the group’s tax-exempt application, which was requested and acquired by The Daily Caller, progressive non-profit made its intentions clear.

“Media Matters for America (MMA) believes that news reporting and analysis by the American media, with its eye on profit margin and preservation of the status quo, has become biased,” reads the application. “It is common for news and commentary by the press to present viewpoints that tend to overly promote corporate interests, the rights of the wealthy, and a conservative, Christian-influenced ideology.”

In terms of the more general charge that the media are widely conservative, this contradicts nearly every study conducted on media messaging. Overwhelmingly, outlets, newspapers — practically every form of the press — has been found to have a leftist slant (at least in the eyes of the American public).

“The majority of Americans (60%) also continue to perceive bias, with 47% saying the media are too liberal and 13% saying they are too conservative,” Gallup reported back in 2011. “The percentage of Americans who say the media are ‘just about right’ edged up to 36% this year but remains in the range Gallup has found historically.”

So, on what information was Media Matters predicating its conservative bias charges? Moreover, the mention of Christianity is also an eyebrow-raiser, mostly because it seems to showcase a concerted effort to counter faith influence in the public sphere.

Here is the telling tax documentation:

Considering the group’s last target in its tax forms — “conservative, Christian-influenced ideology” — one cannot help but wonder how Media Matters has been tackling and approaching faith and Christianity in America. The DC’s Vince Coglianese reports:

Media Matters has made no secret of its adherence to progressive principles, but flagging Christianity as having undue influence in media is the latest revelation about the group’s treatment of religion.

The Democratic-aligned ARCA Foundation specifically supplied Media Matters with a $50,000 grant in 2006 “to support a Religious Broadcasting Project to expand the monitoring and fact checking of religious broadcasts,” TheDC reported in February.

A present-day search of the Media Matters website for the terms “religion” and “Christianity” yields a steady stream of anti-Christian criticism and posts aimed at dismissing Christians’ religious concern over President Obama’s contraception mandate.

Another search revealed a large number of articles critical of perceived “Islamophobia.”

Currently, Media Matters is continuing to advance the theory that the Republican Party is waging a “War on Women.” The current headline on the site (see the screen shot below) focuses on Rush Limbaugh and allegations that he is sexist.

Media Matters Tax Documents Show Group is Targeting Christianity

Screen shot from MediaMatters.org

Nowhere is the organization covering religious liberty and it has actually done everything within its power to dismiss claims that the Obama administration has infringed upon the rights of churches.

Considering what we now know about the group’s stated goals during its inception, such treatment of the subject matter now makes perfect sense.

In America, of course, Christianity is the primary target of the godless left.
They cannot tolerate that a nation so biblically founded, would prosper to such a degree.

The godless writhe in their agony, they cannot bear the Truth which they deny. That they are surrounded by what they see as a bunch of ‘fairy tale believers’, who prosper with such happiness in their God-given freedom they cannot bear to witness. It literally drives them batty.

Thus the radical secularization imposed by the progressive marxist left in this country for the last one hundred years. Ney, they know their end is near. Entities such as MM are merely their tools. Get as many people away from God as soon as possible……..

But we will crush them in November……TEA!!!

For all the Christians who post here…just keep thinking about the streets of gold and one day being in the presense of God. I will do whatever I can to help people get saved if they are open to it but there is no need to fight with the non-believers. The battle was won by His blood. They can take away my eyes but I will still see the Glory of God. They can take away my life but He still lives in me. They can tear away my flesh but I will still be covered by the armor of God. Bring it on MM (aka Satan)…I will not deny Him.

I agree. Christianity didn’t survive 2000 years by caving to the attacks of mere man and evil.
God and Jesus will be in our hearts and minds and lives for etermity – a bit longer than MM will exist.

I understand and agree with you to a point. I have talked to many people about God. Many times the spirits that are on or in a non-believer bring these to me without me saying a word. They will come up and start an argument with me. After the dust has settled and before I leave them, (win, lose, or draw), I will say to them that the words I spoke to them in defense of God were probably not for them anyway.
Without fail someone will be crying there, following me into a building or bus, or just come right up and start asking me questions. One word from God can do miracles. Learn to incorporate the Word of God into your regular speech.
      Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
      2 Timothy 4:2
Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.
      1 Peter 3:15
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

Something that I would like to correct is “they will never get it because liberals are cowards which is why they would rather call the police (who they hate) then carry a firearm to protect themselves.” Most of them do carry (or have guns), the only ones that don’t are their useful idiots who only support and back them up because they have absolutely no idea of what they are doing or thinking.

Why is anyone here surprised? The people of the left realize that the only thing they can do is marginalize Christianity by using the belief of the believers against them.
It’s great to be a liberal/Marxist/Socialist/atheist because there is no standard to be held to. They don’t understand hypocrisy, because they don’t have a conscience.
The atheist posters here are merely trolls that seek to get a response, knowing that if they stir up the pot, people will get angry and try to shut them down, furthering their argument that Christians are intolerant/violent…etc.
In reality, one has to wonder what these so-called atheists are so afraid of. They claim to be trying to educate those poor believers. Their “facts” are in fact just personal observations. They say that God doesn’t exist because they have never heard or had an answer to their prayers. Sometimes they will tell you that all the things that a Christian believes are just myths. They have no proof of this either way, Science or eco-paganism is the religion that they worship and neither one of these beliefs have the answers. Science is based on observations over a relatively short amount of time based on a hypothesis. Nothing is hard fact in science, for all that they protest in opposition.
Let Media Matters carry on and show their immense ignorance. They can hoist themselves on their own petard. For all their bluster, they are irrelevant.

      To RalphBP,
I have communicated with many, many atheists at Ray Comforts Blog Spot and have found that they are dangerously afflicted with malignant narcissism. They are pride filled, arrogant, haters of truth, liars, and monsters of the worst type. Their hatred of Gods people, especially Christian believers allows me to derive a full understanding of how they will persecute believers in these end-times. Christians will be killed all day long for their faith in Jesus Christ, The Messiah. We are, after all, not greater than the teacher and will find our perserverance in the faith through Him who perservered first. Then despite their withering attacks the faithful will change some of them into believers and provide some a way towards salvation. But, many will perish in the lake of fire, along with Satan their Master. And they will be missed no more. Amen.

To the atheists on this site: If I believed in unicorns and so revered them that I set up a little shrine in front of my house or even on the town green, would you not just smile and shake your head and think I was a harmless little eccentric and even humor me a bit ?? Could you explain to me why Jesus upsets you so much? I don’t ever hear any of you going off about Islam, just Christianity, and Judaism. Again, why does He upset you?

Thomas Jefferson said, “It matters not if my neighbor believes in one God or many, it neither breaks my leg or picks my pocket.” Words to wise for all of us.

Christians: Don’t threaten non believers with fires of damnation, you sound like idiots, instead tell non-believers that although they don’t believe in Jesus, He believes in them and loves them and will welcome them into His Sacred Heart when they are ready….or not….their choice. Live and let live. Not everyone is so BLESSED to hear Jesus’ call, and they deserve our compassion, not threats.

Imagine if that person who believed in unicorns lived their life by a strict, archaic doctrine – with many convictions that run directly counter to your own – whose central tenant was to make everyone else believe in unicorns. Now imagine everyone in the government that controls everything from censoring the media you access (music, movies, etc.) to the laws that are violently enforced is a unicorn believer. Imagine if their bizzare, out of touch with reality beliefs dictated the way you could live your life. Now imagine if they claimed to be the victims… Now imagine we had unicorns on all of our money… you see where this is going.
In other words, imagine how you would feel if everyone in the government was Hindu or Muslim. You wouldn’t hate their religion or the people but you would feel threatened by a different culture imposing their belief system on your daily life.

Mammalone, Explain to me exactly how Christianity is being forced upon you? And don‘t think I don’t know what you are going through. I used to be a pagan, polytheist. Never did I feel that Christianity was FORCED on me. I thought Nativity scenes were charming, silly, but charming. The 10 Commandments always struck me as damned good advice. When my Christian friends said grace at meals, I politely waited until they were through. I didn’t bow my head or pray. I just didn’t participate. But it didn’t offend me. You can’t ignore the fact that the vast majority of people in this country are Christians, the people who founded this country were Christians, anymore than you can ignore the fact that most of the people in France are French. If you are offended by Christians or French people, leave. Instead of being offended, why not try and learn something? Did it ever occur to you that we know something you don’t? Truth be told.Obama got me thinking about the possible existence of the so-called anti-christ and while I was pondering that idea, I heard a voice as clear as a bell say, “I exist too.” I felt like I got hit in the face with a 2×4. This Wiccan KNEW she heard from Jesus. I don’t have faith. I know! Blessed be, my friend, I wish you joy.

Pretty obvious that the Left is coming from an atheistic background. The recent War on the Catholic Church over the so-called “ Affordable ” Heath Act was an example . Why ? Because the Church stands up to Big Brother Government in its attack on the rights of the individual. Big Brother Government does not like to be opposed. Big Brother / the State will brook no opposition. Buckle your seat belts. We are in for a bumpy ride . ( Big Brother is not bothered by a Christian moral code . Big Brother follows the Alinsky Rules for Radicals which gives BB a whole lot of leeway in that messy world of right and wrong ! ) Big Brother is on the march .

Religion is a platform of conscience. The left wants to take conscience away from the public psyche. Why? Because conscience means you’ll resist their statist and “social justice” aspirations. You’ll resist giving the government more and more power. This is why communism cannot abide religion.

Christianity is going to have to get militant. I know some Christians will disagree saying we should ‘turn the other cheek’ as Jesus taught. I think if Christians believe they should not get violent then they should at least do things such as manning phones, connecting other Christians, voting the right way, getting involved in politics, and even peaceful marches. However…some of us will have be in the streets and involved in ‘not-so-peaceful’ acts. We either fight (in many ways) or be swamped by communists, atheists, and muslims.

“Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword”.

The words of Jesus cause division because many want so badly to stay in their sins and they get angry about it. Jesus does not want us to go around being violent but he doesn’t call for ignorance and passivism either. Why did he says this?

AVENJERK, I’m on your side. Do I insult you because of you don’t understand the meaning of words like “communism” or “atheist?” Answer: no. Do I insult you because most of your posts are cut and pasted from other websites? Answer: no, I do not.

I think that one day, if you go and take a class or two at a junior college, you could not only improve your sadly limited vocabulary, but also give you a broader insight into the grownup world of your superiors.

JERK, you’re never too old to develop your own ideas, and learn to express them with clarity! Even your insults might improve if you only had a rudimentary knowledge of government, history, literature and philosophy, knowledge easily obtained from you local junior college, or even an on-line course.

JERK, I want you to succeed. I want you to better yourself. You might even get out of the dead end job you have, provided your personality doesn’t prevent you from being employed elsewhere.

I’m your friend AVENPERP. If you’d just listen to me I might be able to help you. Friends?

      JZSaul,

      You are parroting yourself.

      How bout a little creativity?

Just to show you that I practice what I preach, here is different link to the same book I keep recommending.

      http://www.libertymind.com/index.php?page_id=291

Excellent excerpt from an eye-opening book.

Brain washing and Ideological imprinting at its worst. we are being programmed to accept the next part o the New World Order. Total atheistic behavior. All Christian moors and standards are to be under full out assault from this time forward. The catch is the pressure will be turned up hotter and hotter as the days and months pass.
We have a decision to make about who we are. God fearing or Government fearing?

Christianity is under attack, as never before in History.
Take a stand for God, before it’s too late.

    SOMETHING is smelling fishy!

    Consider the BIG PICTURE…
with everything going on involving reckless spending and management of money…
    THE BIG AGENCY/AGENCIES WASTEFUL SPENDING,
THE ALLEDGED BUT UNPROVEN OBAMA BIG MONEY GIVE AWAY,
THE BIG COST ON EVERYTHING AND CONSUMERS,
    THE PRINTING OF MORE MONEY,
THE ADDITIONAL AND EXCESS IN GOV’T SPENDING,
INCLUDING THE CURRENT INCOME TAX MONEY GOING INTO GOV’T IN APRIL…
sounds to me like the dollar has been greater de-valued and is being rapidly collected,
could it be WHY it’s being spent friviously & furiously,
without care or concern about tomorrow’s cost or responsibilities.

IS IT PARTY NOW BECAUSE THE PARTY IS SOON TO BE OVER?

    NO PROOF… JUST SAYIN’.
But, it is something to BE ON LQQK OUT FOR.

While they are not connected to truth, the Media today forms the fourth branch of our government. Look at the Martin case . Zimmerman was convicted without a trial. All by the Media. Obama gets a complete vetting pass. All by Media. Soros knew where to put his money. Like Goebbels, Soros knew that you can win elections , change governments, and influence economic policies. All by Media. And if the Republicans hope to win this next election, they had better figure out how to work around the fact that the Left has the Media in its pocket ! 24/7. And they are targeting Fox News .

LOL! Best laugh I’ve had all week!

For those who don’t know, David Brock is the head of Media Matters, and recently settled an out-of-court breakup with his gay lover for a considerable amount of money. Brock is known for having a very explosive temper, which numerous witnesses, including many of his own employees, have attested to!

And now we know Brock’s spiritual influence, too! (Hint: It isn’t a divine source!)

They would have to hire everyone on the planet to do that. Even Soros doesn’t have enough billions to accomplish that task! Nor is the population large enough to hire enough people to do it! It would take through the millennium!

Look…let’s not continue this sick joke any further. Take away Media Matters tax exempt status and let Soros “pay his fair share”.
Secondly..why is this a surprise to anyone? Media Matters is run by a militant homosexual. Homosexuals hate christianity with pathological intensity.

Yet Christains love them and only wish to share the good news of forgiveness. George Soros will have a stark realization soon unless he awakens and recognizes the God of his fathers he watched cremeated by his buddy Adolf. The man is evil and demented with power and money. Why not the Soros rule rather than Buffett – pay no taxes and control the strings of puppets like BarryO.
