Media mogul Russell Simmons, the co-founder of Def-Jam who is reportedly worth about $340 million, has made it clear that he is a staunch Democrat.

A proud supporter of the “Occupy” movement and the author of Super Rich: A Guide to Having It All, Simmons asked his supporters Saturday to vote for Obama to “stop the literal destruction of poor people in this country” by Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, Twitchy reported.

But that’s not all Simmons said.

He seemingly went on a tweeting spree, dividing Americans into a plethora of “identity” voting blocks before saying they should all vote for Barack Obama:

He added: “Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, the two men who will destroy our people…PLEASE RETWEET,” linking to an article he wrote on Global Grind.

He described the Romney-Ryan ticket in the article:

…Mitt Romney has made his campaign slogan loud and clear: EVERYTHING’S FOR SALE! And all of the money that is made on everything that is sold will be made on the backs of the poor and the working class.  Take away social security, take away healthcare, privatize education, cut food assistance programs, outsource another war, eliminate services for women and then hide your money in off-shore accounts so we never know how much you made!

Gateway Pundit interpreted the “our people” comment as being race-related, since Simmons clearly doesn’t fit into the “poor America” category he describes in his article.

“Obviously, Russell Simmons is not familiar with how Barack Obama’s policies have affected the black community,” Jim Hoft wrote.

A number of Twitter users responded with similar messages.

One added a new “identity” group of his own, asking Simmons: “What do you tell the young people who just graduated with college who cant find a job and have massive debt. obama?”

    Look at his ridiculous tweets. Simmons is clearly in panic mode, because Romney picked a VP that will energize his campaign, and they can beat his buddy Obama.

    Democrats do less for poor citizens than any other party, but they want us to believe that they care the most. I’m sick of these racist, hate-filled, hypocrites. They are like a cancerous tumor.

      Why not tell the whole story? You just cherry pick factoids to assemble into an argurment. DJIA is a predictor of the future. It will crash if BHO is reelected. BHO’s taxes are going to far exceed any thing Clinton had in place. You could claim the higher tax rates on the middle class was the reason for Clinton’s success, or even the lower rate of spending.       I do some investing, and one thing I never analyze is a company’s political views. Things like PE ratio, eps, PEG, etc. are far better indicators of the company’s prospects.

      Mr. Simmons assertion is based upon the false assumption that poor people are poor due to the wealth of others and that the only solution is for government to continual support them in one fashion or another. This really is a commonly held fallacious presupposition among most progressive liberals. It is hard for the liberal mind to place any blame on societal breakdown and morals for much of anything so they ignore the elephant in the room often times. The number one predictor of poverty (and crime for that matter) in this country is single parent homes with fatherless children. No other stat more directly correlates with poverty (or crime). Secondly, while most reasonable people are all for societal safety nets and helping hand programs, it is not “helping” people to keep them enslaved to government programs that do nothing to help people help themselves as a general rule. This then encourages generational poverty and attitudes that contribute to lower standard of living lifestyles. Poverty in this country is not an economical problem it is a moral/social problem that will NEVER be solved by throwing money at it. Hence the failure of the last 40 to 50 years to change the poverty rate much at all depsite more money being allocated to the poor than any nation in the history of mankind. What’s the definition of insanity? Continuing to do the same thing and expecting different results? Thank you…..

      I was merely answering the original post, which implied that Simmons just talks the talk. He also walks the walk: he’s very active in a number of community projects, expecially those involved with children. Simmons is actually the embodiement of the american dream. The fact that he supported OWS does not mean he loathes capitalism. He’s a total “pull-yourself-by-your-bootstraps” entrepreneur who came from Queens and made millions thanks to the free market. He also believes in giving back. He’s a peace broker who tries to bring communities together; he’s sometimes very critical of the hip-hop community he helped build (publicly denouncing the use of the N and B words in songs, for example) and he is no commie agitator. If you want some insight on what the guy represents (instead of relying on the opinion of Blazers who don’t know him from Richard or Gene Simmons), check out his book Super Rich: A Guide to Having It All.       Of course Russel Simmons wants to keep the status quo. He made his millons hawking Hip Hop “Music” in the ghettos. Lyrics laced withy filth, murder, drug praising, all aimed at the inner city culture and all aimed at keeping the residents in their place. That way he can profit more and more from the plight of “His people”.

      What has he done to alleviate the people he claims as his? Has he funded a homeless shelter? Has he funded a soup kitchen? Has he inaugrated a learning program for kids trapped in the ghettos? Has he assisted any nursing facilities for elderly black residents? Not that I know of, but he took his daughters on a shopping trip and bought them expensive clothing. He and Obama are two peas from the same pod. One high living at taxpayer expense, the other at the expense of the poor black inner city residents.

      Funny that Mr.Simmons seems to have selective amnesia. He himself laughed all the way to the bank when he stole the Beastie Boys’ “Liscense to Ill” royalties. That‘s the reason they left Def Jam in the late 1980’s. They had the biggest selling rap album in history and didn’t receive enough to even pay the bills from it. They literally made him a millionaire overnight and that album alone launched Def Jam to what it is today and Russell pulled a Steve Miller and just “took the money and ran.” It took him nearly 16 years to apologize and his apology was weak.
