Meet One of the Largest Football Players of All Time: 500lbs and He‘s Called ’House’

House: Meet One of The Largest Football Players of All Time

John "House" Taylor

At six feet 11 inches and weighing 500 pounds, John “House” Taylor is quite possibly the largest man to ever play football.

“I said, ‘Who is this man blocking out the sun?’” recalls Central Penn Piranha offensive lineman Vincent McDuffy, himself six feet five inches and 372 pounds.

Taylor’s job? Smother anything that comes up against him.

“Don’t run my way; pretty much that’s what I do (on defense),” said Taylor.

“Taylor is a defensive lineman for the Piranha, one of the most successful teams in the Gridiron Developmental Football League (GDFL); a minor league consisting of roughly 40 clubs, stretching from Pennsylvania to Florida,” CBS 21 reports. “‘House’ has a simple job on defense — take up space. An offense can’t block, what an offense can’t see.”

“If they can’t see the linebackers, they don’t where they coming from, the offensive linemen,” Ron Kerr, owner and head coach of the Piranhas, told CBS 21. “He has to be double-teamed. He’s too big not to be.”

But despite his size and power, Taylor isn’t a starting player.

“There’s sometimes when people expect super human things (from me),” added Taylor. “I’m still a human.”

The Piranha primarily uses Taylor in tight situations, meaning he spends most of his time on the sidelines and is usually only brought in when it’s a matter of gaining a few yards.

Still, that’s not to say that a run-in with the “House” isn’t a memorable one.

“One time, I actually fell and he fell on top of me,” said center Nate Gibson. “I could have sworn I had two broken ribs.”

“You got to catch me moving in one direction,” said Taylor, describing what it takes to stop him. “You’re not going to straight up just move me most times. But if you catch me moving in one direction, you can push me in that way; but other than that…”

He will be out with knee problems by next season most likely.

He may be big but any semi-fast player can outmaneuver fatbutt any day. He won’t last 1/2 the season. And you are right, his knees will last about one quick plant and turn.

Way too fat, Way to slow. If he had any sense he would make losing lots of weight his only goal.

There‘s a reason this guy isn’t a starter… He‘s so effin fat that he wouldn’t be able to play one quarter without dying of a heart attack. I kinda feel bad for this guy because his bones WILL NOT last given his height and weight. His heart won’t last another 15 years either. If he doesn’t drop 200 lbs in the next couple of years.. He’s either going to have multiple joint replacements or die. I don’t even think he would be allowed a heart transplant due to his weight. I wish him lots of luck and hope he gets with the program to get healthier.

I’m surprised a guy that big is mobile enough to play in ANY league. I don’t care what you guys say, someone that big who can still play football is athletic. Lose a hundred or so pounds and he’ll be a force to be reckoned with, though if Nanny Bloomberg had his way, this guy would probably be a scrawny 140 pounds.

If this guy loses some of that middle flub and starts weight training, he could be an awesome middle line defense player, it would be like hitting a small jeep trying to block this guy, God forbid if he ever hit somebody head on running a punt return back? I often had to try and block guys with a 40 lb to 50 lb weight advantage, but never anything like this guy. Hope he can keep progressing ! Big man!!

Unfortunately, he will have a short career. Your knees can only take so much.

But that is a big dude. Would scare the stuffing out of me if I played. But then again they all pretty much scare the stuffing out of me. Padding or no padding, I don’t like being hit.
